Beyond European Sustainable Tourism MED Path (BEST MED) project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
Across the length and breadth of Slovenia and its breathtaking landscapes, countless destinations mesmerise with their history, culture, nature and gastronomy. The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe are an invitation to travel and to discover the rich and diverse heritage of Europe by bringing people and places together in networks of shared history and heritage of Slovenia.
• Saint Martin of Tours Route
The Saint Martin of Tours Route links many European towns that were part of Saint Martin's life and those with the significant architectural heritage of relevance to his veneration: thousands of monuments are dedicated to him, including fourteen cathedrals. These sites also have an intangible heritage that is still alive in the form of legends, traditions and folklore.
• Iter Vitis Route
Iter Vitis Route represents the culture of the vine, winemaking and viticultural landscapes, which are an important part of European and Mediterranean food culture. Since the domestication of the vine, several thousand years BC, its evolution and spread has been considered an outstanding human achievement, which shaped Europe's landscapes, both in terms of its territory and its people.
• European Cemeteries Route
The European Cemeteries Route offers the visitors the possibility to walk through the local history, to learn about important personalities who have worked and left their mark in cities. Cemeteries are part of our tangible heritage for their works, sculptures, engravings, and even for their urban planning. Cemeteries are also part of our intangible heritage, our anthropological reality, providing a framework surrounding the habits and practices related to death.
