Tecate, Mexico a place that I never knew actually existed to be honest. We have all heard of Tecate Beer, but until recently, I didn't realize that it's named after a city. Not only is it a real place, but Tecate Mexico is only an hour's drive from San Diego, California.
On day four of our Baja California Road Trip, we left Mexico's wine country of Valle de Guadalupe and drove about an hour to the small city of Tecate, Mexico. We stopped for pastries at El Buen Pan de Tecate. We also had a delicious breakfast soup at El Faro Restaurant, which further develops my love for Mexican Food of all kind!
From breakfast, we tried to get into the Tecate Beer Brewery, however, the beer garden is currently closed. Instead, we relaxed in Tecate's central park (Parque Miguel Hidalgo). It was a great opportunity to see the daily life of local Tecate residents.
Tecate, Mexico is home to just over 100,000 people, and while the majority of land in the area is used for ranching and farming, obviously, its most famous export is the Tecate Beer.
From Miguel Hidalgo park we went over to Bar Diana for our first Tecate Beer. Alex, the third generation owner of Bar Diana was such a great ambassador to the city. He was so much fun and we shared stories of life in Tecate, through the lens of a bartender here.
For lunch, we went to El Lugar de Nos Restaurant; one of the most recommended places from you guys on Instagram (@traveldeeper). Thank you! We had some delicious Mexican Food including tacos and bone marrow.
Next, it was time to go camping in Mexico! About an hour outside of Tecate is a small town called La Rumarosa. This is where we met the property manager of our camp. He took us up to camp in Baja California for the first time.
It was a great night of Tecate Beer, Carne Asada, and good laughs!
