They're all are absolutely awesome just love listening to the pipes it makes my day and Jim your the best at this filming these wonderful people thank you
I had the good fortune to be posted to the 1Bn RHF during the early '70s. Bulford, Singapore, Edinburgh and of course NI. As REME attached, I invariably found myself located near the Pipe Band accommodation. Effectively, two & a half years of continuous pipe music. Bliss...for me at least.
I was serving on HMCS Kootenay in '73 and we spilt some rum with The Royal Highland Fusiliers in Singapore, great bunch of guys the Jocks.Remember the City Gem Steakhouse...good times had by all. Thanks for the memories.
I loved them all! I'm just a big sucker when it comes to pipes, drums, & marching bands. Trying to make a decision about which is best is not really possible with any degree of confidence as all things weren't equal. The video quality varied greatly.
@@khiggins8733 In your opinion.......the minority. The soldiers in the videos are all more than happy being Scottish and British, or English and British, or Welsh and British, or Irish and British. The common factor.......they are all British.........and happy and proud to show it in uniform of the British army. Take your political nonsense to another video on RU-vid. Jim Ramsay's videos are not a platform for you people.
@@jaguarladdie Your Unionism is obvious to see in your comments. You and your spawn represent the past . A day will come and shortly I believe when an Independent Scotland 🏴 will take its place among the nations of the world. If you are Scots then you will probably be better off emigrating south of the border with your own kind. A United Ireland 🇮🇪 also.
Up till the Black Watch came on, it was nice to see the regimental bands play something other than The Atholl Highlanders and The Glendaruel Highlanders.
Just a side thought.. Queen Elizabeth and her carrier support squadron were in Japan a couple of weeks ago. A pipe band from one of these regiments should have gone out to do a parade in Tokyo, along with the Royal Marines & Navy, as a show of support to Japan
3 Scots all the way! Were the Atholl Highlanders a re-enactment group? Don't get me wrong, they were great, but most seemed to be of post-military age.
The Atholl Highlanders are unique. Europe's only private army. The Duke of Atholl's own bodyguard. Mostly made up of workers on the Atholl estate and those from the immediate area. It is not on the ORBAT of the regular army, although it does bear Queen's Colours, so is technically part of it.
Post war memories of these fine fellows or ... Russian SPETSNAZ with borned cosscs souls without mercy. .. In early morning near camp fire ..Never again from both sides
For me it's The Highlanders {4 Scots}, always well turned out and best sound. Technically The Atholl highlanders are not a military band as they are not part of the Army, but rather a private Militia with no Royal warrant.
Royal Irish second to none. Plus the field marshal Montgomery pipe band also from Northern Ireland is the best pipe band in the world winning trophies year after year after year. Check it out for yourself.
He's talking about Military Pipe Bands. Field Marshal Montgomery is a civilian band. The regiments rarely compete, so it's hard to compare, and music like life is subjective.
I have watched the source video, "Glasgow Homecoming Parade," dozens of times. I can not ever get enough. My vote is with the Scots Guards piping the 1st Battalion Scots Guards home from Afghanistan in 2013.
I wonder if the Atholl Highlanders are made up of the vale of Atholl pipes and drums how many all the bands are great but I notice how small 🤔 the pipes and drums in militry regiments are getting its like is getting back to about 1908 when you had 6 pipers and 3 drummers 😆 made up a pipe band 🤔 as most people love the pipe bands there flourishing all over the 🌎 🗺 🌏
The smartest turned out military pipes & drums out there at the moment are undoubtedly the 1st Bn. Scots Guards, the Highlanders (4 SCOTS) and perhaps rather surprisingly to some, the Aberdeen University Officers Training Corps. That may surprise some but for a number of years now, the AUOTC have been looking immaculate when on parade. I can't say the same for the other University OTC bands nor other TA/Reserve bands. And in terms of sound, it's pretty much the same three bands again. Looking further afield, both the RHF and the Black Watch appear rather scruffy and their sound is poor and unfortunately, the RSDG is a mere shadow of the band it once was. As for the Irish bands, recent performances were certainly not inspiring. Haven't heard any Gurkha bands recently so no comment on that one. But for me the prize at the moment goes to 1SG with runners-up being 4 SCOTS and AUOTC.
