Basic biochemistry: You need protein to make froth. Not surprising, the more protein content the more froth you will get. This is a process called Denaturing. You can denature protein by blending or heating, in this case you do both (think of how you put an egg in a hot pan and the white, (albumin) turns white. That's the protein denaturing. Same with the high speed steam jet from traditional espresso makers, that's heat and blending--best of both worlds, why they can do those lovely drinks at the coffee shop.) I'm not sure how you'd get a nice thick froth from an oat, because oats have comparatively lower protein (also why it's easier to froth full fat milk rather than skim.). Nice video for side by side comparison, but the Jura is not available anymore, than I can see. Any model numbers or name on that one?
Yep, this is why you have separate plant milks for coffee. These have been common for really long now even in normal grocery stores. Kinda wonder why they didn't test those. Any barista or coffee drinker that uses plant milk would know it doesn't work. Quite often it can even separate due to heat. Overall, it feels bit redundant to actually test those.
Thanks for the review on different milk frothers plus types of milk! I’m sad to find out that one is no longer being sold but regardless this video is incredibly helpful. Now I know why the one my sister got was “not working”.
Thanks for this review video, I literally could not find any legitimate reviews for which machines were good at frothing almond milk, this was so helpful. 👍
Thanks heaps for your test on all the frothers - very much appreciated,😀 as I could not get my so good almond barista milk to froth with the aerolatte hand frother but almond milk is not easy but I feel your jura one is the best after watching your test on all the frothers and milk - so you have helped me to sort out which one to buy - I wish more people would do what you have done with the frothers or other items as well, as it makes our job allot easier when we come to buy one.😀
Just got my SMEG from you in the mail yesterday!!! Just FYI regarding oat milk. They sell a Barista version that gets VERY frothy. Oatly Barista is the best oat milk to use but hard to find. Cant compare to others as I have only tried the one....but..... there was a lot of foam in my cup this morning.
Thank you for your demonstration with almond milk in particular. I was hoping to find a frother that could really integrate the foam rather than having it sit on top in a separate layer. None of these frothers can do what I hoped and that is valuable information. It saves me from buying a disappointment. Thank you.
Thanks for taking the time to test out all of these different milks. I drink almond milk. I bought a Keurig K- café and it produced no froth whatsoever, even though it said that it did. I had a really hard time returning it to Keurig as well so I’m done with that company. I know I’m buying a JURA now! I figured the most expensive one would do the best, who knew! SO AWESOME! Thank you so much, you saved me time, money and most importantly aggravation.😀
I have the nespresso brand aero 3. It’s good for the price and it came bundled with my nespresso espresso machine. It’s honestly not that bad in my opinion. I also have the Calphalon Temp iQ espresso machine with steam wand and that is obviously much much better at steaming and frothing milk. But for an automatic, set it and forget it milk frother nespresso is ok.
Yes great video and very informative. I was trying to see if I can purchase the Jura frother, but I can’t find it on your website. Please advise. Thanks
I heard that the breville has two frother parts - one for latte (less foam), and one for cappuccino. May I ask which part you installed when recording this?
Great demo, thanks! Guess this rules out the Nespresso. Never heard of Jura before but I’m inspired to splurge - I can tell already it is expensive! *Note: I only watched the skim milk section
I would imagine the Nespresso was one of the best ones the problem was it was left too long before it was poured out so very very unfair so this experiment is not working at all unfortunately each one should’ve been done on its own instead of waiting for them when they’ve been done to them pull them out of the glass it doesn’t work. And milk only comes from cows
Sorry I was watching the oat milk section and #4 seems to be the best, but I thought the smeg was #2? is it mislabeled? what is the machine that's next to the neospresso?
Totally different. The built in frothers on a prosumer can be much better (if a wand) or much worse if automatic. Hard question to answer as each person has individual preferences for milk. But these do a great job on thick froth
now, I would like to see you showing also, how do they make the heat and foam. Do they infuse air in different ways, how do they whisk, etc. If they have parts that is easy to loose or come apart, it will give a hit to the ranking. I also wish you did the barista "dunk" to "set" the foam in the milk in pitcher, before pouring. It present the results a lot lot better to the audience.
I had the Nespresso and the Bodum. To me, the Nespresso is far superior to make my drink, cappuccino with 1% or 2% cow milk as Nespresso foam is denser. I miss my Nespresso.
I saw this video and immediately put Jura on my Xmas wishlist last year. My husband got it for me and I was so happy because I was able to make perfectly frothed oat milk for a couple of months. The product quickly deteriorated after that. The oat milk would not froth anymore, it just got heated and slight foamy but nowehere to that level shown in the video. I took it down to the customer service center here in Singapore and they assured me that the device was fine, I just need to buy a SGD36 cleansing tablets for it. So I did. It didn't work. Eventually, after a couple of months the device just stopped working altogether. When I sent it back to center they just kept telling me that it was fine. I showed them a video of how it would not turn on. And I told them I tried it on every socket in our house, they still insisted it was fine. I've never been so infuriated with a product and service in my life. You'd think that a device this expensive came with better customer care, but they just denied it at every turn. I would think many times before purchasing a jura milk frother. It's not worth it the disappointment. Do not waste your SGD233! (Especially if you live in Singapore where the service center is so far away, it costs a lot of money to send your device for inspection/servicing.)
If you leave the froth even for a minute after it completes the milk settles to the bottom and thick froth is left. You need to immediately take the frother and pour out. When you let it sit even for a minute the review is worthless. When the frother turns off, immediately swirl and then pour, that gives you a proper test
@@ecscoffeeinc gotcha, how would it be “possible” with oat milk? For example would the breville on latte setting set at 60 Celsius temp work if you put it in a latte art jug afterwards and “tap and swirl it” a few times to get rid of large bubbles? Have u ever tried it :) thank you!
I loved this review. You're the anti-James Hoffman. You're a typical guy who thinks there's nothing wrong with tasting the milk with your fingers! Love it! 😆
Milk only comes from cows God knows what the other stuff is but if you look at it the ingredients will mostly be water and salt and maybe some sugar I’d like to see this done with proper whole milk
