how many times would you estimate, in your personal experience, that a mouthguard may have saved your teeth/tooth in bjj, how many potential incidents? ty
It’s difficult to say. I will say that when I don’t have it in, i notice because I catch a knee to the chin and chatter my teeth... then I remember I need my mouth guard.
I've chipped my teeth 3 times doing bjj without a mouthguard. I started using a thin SISU Aero and haven't had any issues since. Once I get some dental work done I'll invest in something like what this video shows.
On their website the mouth guard I was looking at is around $50 but when i choose my sport (boxing) they charge me an extra $20. Do you know what the difference is and if I should get that version. Thanks
Honestly I don’t even think that’ll matter. I would say just go for an MMA one. If the price is even higher than boxing it’s because they factor in something. Elbows and knees. Jiu Jitsu isn’t likely to have anything happen. Honestly football ones might be just as good as boxing for cheaper. Have a look at mma and boxing ones and then try and figure out if there’s any real difference. I’d say there not and just go for a decent one that isn’t an extra cost
I enjoy your channel (I just recently subscribed), but I discourage mouth guards with all my students and friends. In my seven years of rolling, I've hurt my mouth more often with the five or six times I tried wearing a mouth guard than rolling without one.
That’s interesting. I’ve always used a mouth guard and have never gotten hurt. Lots of folks in the school I attend also use mouth guards - not sure if anyone has been hurt because of the mouth guard but haven’t heard anything...just my personal opinion but I’d rather take a little damage to the mouth than lose a tooth...dental bills can be outrageous. the mouth guard my Impact is small and tight fitting..,honestly, I can’t imagine anyone getting hurt due to this mouthguard. I appreciate your support with subscribing and commenting! Hope to see more from you on other videos - as well!
Just a high school wrestler, but I definitely prefer a small fitted mouth guard over nothing. Just helps with chipped teach and biting my tongue, but that may be cuz I wrestle like and idiot with my mouth open, lol
I’ve rolled at a lot of real gyms..with a mouth guard and without. I’ve never had a cut lip from a mouth guard. Over the years I’ve occasionally taken a knee and elbow to the mouth…usually from white belts…I’ve never taken damage from a mouth guard…even if I were to get a cut lip, I’ll take that over a lost tooth. I know black belts who use mouth guards…if I’m rolling with a high level blue and above, I’m less likely catch an elbow and less likely to use one…white belts can sometimes be spazzy-rollers, so I always wear one rolling with white belts. ‘Real gym’ 😂
