My grandmother lived in that area on Guam St. I have wonderful childhood memories visiting her there in the 60’s-70’s. Always stopped at Black’s for snow cones on the way to the beach.
Hey I grew up in Va. Beach but after watching your videos, realize that I know shockingly little about Hampton Roads in general lol. I moved out of state 20 years ago and haven't even been back in 12 years. I couldn't even find most of the areas you mention on a map! I have family there so will go back at some point. I like how you describe the neighborhoods, I grew up in Ridglea (Marlinton Drive--one street sign spelled it "Marlington" with a "g", the other sign without a "g":). I couldn't wait to leave when I lived there but realize now that it has a lot to offer.

I actually didn't realize when I was a kid how much interesting things and features there are here and the richness of the history. I've grown to appreciate and love it so much. My mom used to live at Chic's Beach. She used to walk from Lesner to the Bay Bridge and back. Seems like only yesterday. If I could live anywhere at the beach it would be there.
You're really off the mark. I lived in Chesapeake Beach from 1954 to 2019 Chesapeake Beach is along Pleasure House Road between Shore Drive to the Bay. Going East Chesapeake Beach becomes Baylake Pines, which in turn becomes Ocean Park. Chic's Beach is a ONE BLOCK plot on the Bay bordered to the West by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and to the East by Buster's Beach. The Yuppization of the area 'expanded' to include all the area from the Amphi Base to Fort Story.
