Best New $100 Baitcasting Reel: Shimano Caenan Review

+Andrew M I just bought the tatula ct and it's sharp!! Definitely more compact than the original tatula models. I also bought a Lews Tournament Pro G, very nice reel but more pricey.

It's all about the frame and the quality of the bearings and the brakes

+Im Pat I don't know about that man, I have both the revo sx and the shimano citica 200i and after using both for a few months I like the shimano more to be honest, the clicking spool tensioner on the revo is the only feature I like more on the abu.

+chrono1975 I have the older aluminum version and it's so much smoother than the new one

+Im Pat I have one of the new revision 3's and the shimano is smoother, plus I like the rubber grip on the spool release button. my only gripe is the spool tensioner is not as good as the abu, the revo is still a great reel though but att the price point I think the shimano is a little bit better. I do not own any of the higher end revos though so things might be different there as well. I'm fairly new to bait casting reels and its been a love and hate relationship. I'm only now getting good enough using them to start to tell a diference.

+LakeForkGuy were you given the reel to review or did you buy it because you think its a great product. The reason I ask if because I simply don't trust reviews from some of the main fishing channels these days such as flukemaster anymore. He was once used Duckett rods almost exclusively now he won't even mention their name. Someone even asked on an older video of his what rod he was using and he said "I don't know" but now I use 13 fishing. I just thought that was kinda scum baggish.

I think if he is being sponsored by a company, he can't mention another company's name. Just business.

Frank Heck I like the casitas because it goes better with more rods. the ceanan would be pared with a Abu Garcia vendetta.

Received my Inception this weekend and it does not disappoint. The thing is an absolute work horse. Only time will tell its true reliability, but it is pretty amazing so far. Caught my PB of 9lbs on the 5th cast and the drag handled it beautifully.

can't even compare lews to shimano way more quality in shimano reels

+Steven Sissin the higher dollar ones are nice but the Lews speed spool is much nicer than the caenan

Yea i don't blame you lews has good reels the only problem I have with lews they get a little stiff after time

My friend has the casitas and i have the caenan. In my opinion i would get the caenan because there is really no difference in them other than the brakes

SportsLife386 no its not its shit, i had one and it would o my cast about 50 feet with every thing loose, it wasn't smooth, and you could tell it was cheaply made.

+pikemaster yes I do. I like to use mono for squarebills, topwaters, and anything I was to keep close to the surface. I like suffix pretty good

I wouldn't say the best. There's several good ones. 13 Inception ($120), Abu Garcia Orra 2 SX, Lews Speed Spool LFS are all very good reels.

ZaygonHD there is not a chance that this Caenan is the best $100 reel. You can get the Lew's Tournament MB and Daiwa Tatula CT for $100 or less new on ebay. Both those reels IMO are 3 times the reel of the Caenan or Casitas. Graphite or composite frame reels just dont last compared to aluminum or other metal framed reels

I wouldn't go below about 8-10lb mono or fluoro or 30lb braid. But you can use any weight line above that, depending on your uses.
