This technique is insanely good for crappie with downsized baits. I’ve used it so much over the last few years throughout the entire year that it’s second nature. I usually start as low as 1/80 or 1/64oz to find the depth the crappie are at and stick with that weight, it keeps the bait in the strike zone longer and stays out of snags better.
It’s becoming silly how many times yall break me out of a fishing slump. Just went bank fishing today and did this exact technique…caught a 3.5 lb fish on the second cast. Thanks guys!
Received the dirty jig's guppy head and the Crush City Freeloader yesterday. Went out this morning. First fish 6.04lbs!!! Thank you!!! Love when I learn something from you and the first time I try it, something like this happens!! 6lb bass aren't too common on South Jersey! No FFS...
Matt You nailed this technique. Although being an old guy I don’t find it new. A ball head jig with a swim bait of a fluke gets it done. Just smoked them in 45 ft today.
I marshalled yesterday on st.croix and the guy who ended up wining that tournament said he was mid strolling on schools of fish , thanks to these videos im gonna go out there and try this myself.👍
Thanks Matt, I needed to hear this. Up here in Minnesota this technique will work forever because we have thousands of lakes where the bass see little or no pressure… I’m not necessarily anti FFS, but I did associate this technique with that style of fishing. 💁🏻♂️ 🎣
hey Matt! So glad you took the time to go over your confidence baits/heads on this technique. It’s definitely taking over and most ppl think it’s only for ffs. Like you said, wintertime lighter weight and slower movement are key. It’s also nice the 90degree line tie allows you to cast and drop on them. 👍🙏
We are already jigging for trout with little 2in minnows - and already catch a few bass in the process - let’s step it up now and catch some nice bass - thanks Tactical👍
Yeah the fish in my pond is SUPER PRESSURIZED and used to about everything. Nothing will work, not even a wacky rig... but they LOVE MINNOWS! I gotta size down to 2-3 inches but still a killer bait with a 1/16oz jighead. Cheers brotha'!
Every time I hit the water I default to this technique but haven't tried this bait, I shall take your advise and try one of these! Last time I used a pin tail (like a 1.5 inch) I caught a 5lb bass off the bank, don't know why I haven't tried bigger ones.
I’m a bank guy and kayak some what don’t get on it as much as I want but I love throwing this rig with a Ned head it gives it a nice dancing action to it and if you kinda swim it it’s got a roll as well
This technique works! Don’t even need livescope. Did this with a keitech ball jig with a powerbait minnow for white bass and smb before it became hype with livescope
you touched on it briefly but the last 5-6x i went out ive been playing with the really finesse 3 inch strolling setups on the new SINKING braid and ohh boy! its pretty much a cheat code!! ill put my exact setup below this but im telling ya! the sinking braid helps a ton otherwise there's so much slack line waiting for it to sink and putting too much tungsten on the nose kills the action & looks horrible! but been tearing em up lately & its something new thats easy for friends/fam to fish while out on my boat! ----Rods/Reels---- -7ft light expride (Pretty much everyone but shimano site has Lure rating wrong! its 3/32-7/16oz & is definitely a MedLt versus light power! but def my fav Expride spin rod period) paired w/ Shimano '19 Vanquish 2500 JDM reel -6'10 Light Fast Diawa Steez AGS "Ned Special" with Diawa 23 AIRITY PC LT2500 JDM reel (INSANE combo 3.3oz rod + 5.7oz reel) ----Line---- New 2024 XBraid 8-10# SINKING braid YGK Xbraid OhDragon SINKING braid 16.5# (16.5lb = 8-10lb USA braid, dont buy normal lbtest line, look it up!!) 8lb Gold Label Leader ---Hooks/Weights--- Victory 10111BN 1/0 90deg (pour my own custom weighted hooks or use as they come with nail weights) Owner 5313 hooks size 1 + 1/0 (use these exactly how they come) 6th Sense Juggle Shot Hook #1, 1/0 Core Tackle 1/32 + 1/16 #1, 3/64 + 3/32 1/0 1/64-1/16oz Tungsten Nail weights ---Plastics--- Sakamata Shad 4" Fish Arrow Flash J 3" OSP Mylar Minnow 2.5-3.5" Basstrix Flash Trix + LiveTrix Raid Fish Roller 3"
The ballhead jig and Keitech easy shiner 3 inch minnow on my ultralight rod has literally been catching me 3-4+ bass every time I go fishing. I fish from the freaking bank too.
Definitely do not need any fancy boat or technology for this technique. I’m sure those things help but I’ve caught fish from the bank using this technique. Works great for crappie too.
I was diagnosed with needing a shoulder replacement and was in incredible pain. I stopped sleeping on my side and all the pain went away. I also stopped sugars and mitigated manufactured carbs and my health came back, pimples disappeared, flush face went away and attention and focus increased significantly.
When a minnow is injured or dying they often turn on their side when attempting to swim, this is why the bait works so well in my opinion, also there is a tiny jerk bait called the pin minnow by Yo-Zuri it's the smallest one of all this bait also turns on it's side when using it as a jerk bait. And will catch every fish in the lake including big bass at the right times.
@@richardbossman9875 I caught everything on that bait including a 6lb bass. Simply one of the best baits ever for me. The bigger ones work to but the panfish want the little one. And it turns on it's side when you jerk it.
Before the pond breach on watts bar we would take pins minnows on the flats and ledges in winter and catch white bass by the hundreds, and a ton of bass along with them (they were probably there to pick off smaller white bass) I have a special place in my heart for pins minnows and road runner jigs because of that lake.
That’s actually an old technique, my farther taught me this back in the 80’s and he use to call it shake and crank, I can hear him say just shake it and crank it! He use to use a zoom fluke on a jig head
Great video, as always. I've yet to dip my toes in this technique. I think mainly because I fish a lot of pretty stained waters, and don't think it'll be all that effective. Do you ever stroll when you have maaaaybe a foot of visibility at most?
As you can see I fish from a kayak, I carry four rods with two being setup for "strolling" which is how I was taught to fish, one with a frog, one with a long worm drop shot. I only carry two small tack packs because I only throw light heads with minnows or small flukes 😊 people on the bank look at me funny when I come to shore with my 4" plastic hanging from a 1/16oz head 😊
😂 LMAO! Blaukat would be so proud! That's funny! I do have to hand it to Randy, he believes what he believes and stands by his convictions. I think it's ironic though, that he and Johnnie are business partners and Johnnie is the "Tech guy". 🤷♂️. Go figure!
A loop knot absolutely frees up the bait... finding one that won't compromise your leader is another story. We don't currently have a recommendation we trust fully and often just use a standard knot.
Matt, thank you for the video! Any jig heads you would recommend in the 3/4 ounce range? Or would this rolling technique still work well with a heavier jig head and slightly bigger swimbait? Looking at fishing it in 12-20 foot water slowly on the bottom for bass and pike in Michigan. What you shared already will work great in my shallow areas!
Blows my mind how well this stupid simple little rig works. I strictly bank fish and it's like I've unlocked a cheat code. This thing gets bit like no other bait I've fished before, specifically the rapala crush city version. I've used others but something about the rapala just gets bit so much more than other brands I've tried.
Sounds like a technique that you could simply reel while you have your pointer finger facing down in order to catch the line as it spins around. I dare say this will actually make the gimmick “ line dancer” actually relevant.
Informative video...for new fishermen. This technique has been around for years. They call it a new techinique with different jighead companies and soft plastics companies to sell newer tackle. Jighead, soft plastic, swim it or drag it. What is ' new' about this technique? Buy the latest jigheads and the latest plastics, give them your hard earned money for old school fishing technique.
Matt, do you think I can get the results you talked about using the 1/8 owner range roller 3/0 3.5” spunk shad with cashion element bfs casting rod. It’s my heaviest bfs? Reason being you turned me on to bfs last year and I don’t like using spinning gear. Plus the water I fish in Wisconsin is 3-15’.
Hey Matt I got a question I just restarted fishing recently and I would like to know a what a good baitcasting reel and rod combo that isn't that expensive that would be for a all around fishing but I will mostly fish with chatterbaits and big swim baits I would like allot if you could respond to help me
We have been fishing like this since plastics came around. I was Ned Rigging before Ned rigging was invented . I laugh that it took some of you guys so long to catch on to this . 10 years ago i watched Bass shows and guys were throwing casting rods with big baits and not catching anything . Im screaming at the TV for them to pic up a spinning rod and finnese fish . Now as it seems its the geatest thing since sliced bread . LOL.
If you use a baitcaster, the natural movement is with your elbow. On spinning, natural movement is at the wrist. It can absolutely be done, it just takes more effort.
Have you guys tried the core tackle strolling rig? I don't remember what it's called but the head is inside the plastic once it's rigged instead being outside in front of the bait. Tbh I think it's a great idea, but to me it's extremely tough to rig a plastic on it correctly. I have the same issue with their Tush rig, I can never get that thing rigged correctly.
Hover rig… you fish it different. You can “stroll” it, but it’s best served letting it fall on semi-slack line. So far, my biggest fish of the year was on this.
What size hooks for 3.5 spunk shad with the owner heads? I haven't been able to catch fish on my lake with paddle tails in a long time. Don't know why. I can dye the tail and they'll bite it off in a few casts but they won't take it. Same thing with underspins. Spotted bass, highland reservoir with plenty of fish but they're particular as hell. The bait fish right now are teeny.
lol before I watched the middle part where you mentioned viewers from Japan I was thinking exactly what you were saying. lol. Like this is way too heavy weights for actual mid strolling. lol
Why is this the hottest so called technique and since 1990's we put flukes on jig heads along with ball head no#2 hook and Zoom finesse worm green pumpkin. Been around forever, along with hair jigs
Great explanation matt my but asked me what to do and i told him to dance it like a fluke on the surface but deeper and not quite as nuts.An hour later he was all in.Could i ask what style sun pants do you were, mine are to hot. Thanks for the video and leting me be part of the tactical family.
I know. I've had nothing but good experience with Owner hooks until the range roller. It sucks though as the range roller jig heads are expensive @@tacticalbassin
I fished this style bait as a kid from the banks of everwhere and just burned it out..3/16 jighead and white curly tail..there really isnt anything new out there its just applied differently
Why is this called strolling? I have been doing this for 5 years and its always been called Twitching. This is how u fish a trout magnet in Ultralight fishing.
The “teaching” made at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1252">20:52</a> is why patterns like this get so over fished. If it’s THAT good, use it when you need it. Not saying keep it a secret but don’t abuse it either.
30 years ago fishing minnows on jigheads with my dad and he said it's a common tactic people have been using for years Me, today, watching a RU-vid video about this hot new technique
