Good video, no one has yet posted a video of one being caught. Time will tell if it becomes a classic lure or not. Definitely the tight action is key. It has some catching up to do as the Westin Hypo teeze is doing good things for me.

Great Review John !!! Amazing looking Lures ..... very very close to a real whiting !!! My Swimbait set up is : NS Blackhole Amped Swimbait C-791XXH 20-40lb rating with my old trusty ABU Revo STX with 20lb braid. Yes, maybe heavy, but using very sharp trebles, I never try and rip the head off when striking a fish .

I was certain you'd do a review on these John....was hanging waiting for it. Absolutely frothing while watching this, strangely they're the same colours I purchased. I use a Dobyns FR735C, heavy fast action 12 to 25lb(5.4 to 11.3kg) rod, I prefer the lighter tip than the FR795SB. Seems to absorb the lunges/head shakes better & loads up on the strike less aggressively. The reel - ABU Garcia Revo Beast 40HS 7.3:1 ratio, spooled with 30lb(13.6kg) braid & 2.5 metres of 25lb(11.3kg) fluorocarbon. It's my rig for the Port of Brisbane chasing Mulloway/Theadfin Salmon, except I use a 40lb(18kg) to 50lb(22.7kg) leader at "The Port". It also suits medium to big swim baits really well. Maybe you should think about heading up to the Port of Brisbane to hit those Mulloway & Threadies. Snapper, Trevally, Cod & big aggressive Bream are there too. It'd make a great vid I'd love to watch.

Thanks for the informative video John really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. That reel looks like a 150 would you recommend going bigger or will that suffice with smaller swim baits?

seen them on micks site and have seen them swimming, but have been waiting for the John review. all daiwa tatula SB rods and 300 reels, same i use for cod and barra but dial the line class down. lures i use r the zman 7" diezel usually unweighted and the nomad maverick 140 floating. cheers.

What a ripper lure! Definitely keen to get onto one! Caught my very first dusky flathead out at Jacobs well last night half an hour into the run out, bloody ripper 50cm fish! Chicken breast soaked in garlic, followed up with a nice bream. Mate I'm LOVING your videos. That one where you went NUTS on Trev on the boat out at Nerang about a year ago had me laughing so hard. I love your energy and passion for it mate. You've helped me get RIGHT into this fishing gig for sure! My next target, a big jack or a Trev! Only really caught common estuary species growing up as a kid and now getting into the adult side of fishing haha!! Cheers mate, keep up the fishing vlogs, LOVING it! 💯👍🐟

Hi John, Fantastic video and very informative, thank you for sharing your review and tips. I have a quick question with regards to the pauses when using this lure. How often and how long will you pause the bait on a standard retrieve fishing for big flathead on the flats? Will you pause it for long enough to let it slowly fall and sit on the sandy bottom? or perhaps 3 seconds and then twitch it? I've been practicing with this lure today and need to learn how to pause it as you mention the big flathead will look at it and hit it after a pause. Thanks heaps.

I love most of your lure recommendations, in particular the affinity and crossfire are 2 of my go to lures. However I hate casting this thing. It tumbles over and fouls, distance is poor. It has caught me a 60cm fish but I refuse to use something that I don't have confidence it won't foul up on the cast aswell as sacrificing distance.. distance is king and that first cast on a favourite flat is important can't be having tangles.

What do you think of running your drag at the fight/play setting and thumbing the spool on the strike (rather than adjusting drag after the hook set). Any reason this is a bad idea? I’ve got a Shimano Revolution 782 swimbait baitcaster - retail for about $100ish so good entry point for those giving this style of fishing a go for the first time. Love the channel JC. One of the best fishing presenters on RU-vid. 👍
@leonardbrown1512
@leonardbrown1512 3 года назад
Paul, I often run mine out free spool in a flowing tide or for it to sink. Yes thumbing works then play out the fish. Often a strike from a flathead is almost instant the other thing I like to use in really shallow water is monofilament for the extra stretch.

Another weird question im loving the videos, just wondering how many amps i need to run a 55lb thrust trolling motor. cheers
@elletoop2959
@elletoop2959 3 года назад
depends on boat and hours on water. 85+ is usually good. most people run 120AH

Most baitcasting reels are best suited with at least 20lb braid . I have Lews Tournament that can handle 15lb braid i use for bass but will have to upgrade to a Curado with 20lb for something like this.

Try the Tranx 200 or 300. Saltwater rated and it throws these bigger baits with ease. I have the 300 PG.

What ratio do you prefer for deep diving crankbait? Ratio 5 or 6?
@mylurebox
@mylurebox 3 года назад
I usually like faster ratio reels just to get quicker back to the boat but if speed is important like slow rolling for Bass and cod then a slower ratio can help me get it right ;) skip casting is as high as I can find.

Hi Jorge, Do you have Abu Garcia in Portugal, if so, something like the Veritas LTD Casting Rod would be fine www.abugarcia.com/products/veritas-ltd-casting-rod-1519249?variant=34170395754635 or this one on sale www.abugarcia.com/products/veritas-casting-1430494?variant=34170365608075 teamed up with a slow gear ratio bait-caster. Something like the Revo Toro Beast www.abugarcia.com/collections/low-profile-baitcast-reels/products/revo-toro-beastlow-profile-1519434 or this reel that's on sale www.abugarcia.com/products/revo-x-inshore-low-profile-1479949?variant=34170370556043 would work fine for Swimbaits and of course these are only a couple of options. Dobyns Rods and 13 Fishing are America based but I'm sure someone would mail them to you, if you didn't mind paying the postage.

Like the look of the lure but i thought a less obvious (silver) treble might be better..? MMD make some great gear, in fact i bought a bunch of lures after your last vid in Terranora, catching fish in my mates canal. Although i must say, when you fish those little prawns with scent added, and leave them motionless for 30s or 1m on the bottom.. youre not fishing with a lure any more - youre fishing with bait! 😂
@truthbetold2012
@truthbetold2012 3 года назад
I'll stick to smaller lures to clunky for my bream gear they look pretty cool work of art right there....anyone catching more crocs on em than other lures?....love the splash prawns MMD hit the bulls eye with those nothing casts better IMO.
@truthbetold2012
@truthbetold2012 3 года назад
@@matthewmorshead2594 true they are big lures you will get less bites for sure....is that a good thing?..... I know through experience when your spending hours fan casting you want smaller fish to keep you focused... some sessions for me are 6 + hours long casting the flats... without smaller fish to keep me amused I would fade fast!!... we know big flathead eat smaller lures... for me catching smaller fish is good...you also pick up big bream, big whiting and tailor as a bonus!!...so the choice you present is hours of casting for one bite or hours of casting for many bites and by catch?

@@eionmark7424 Interesting. I knew it would work with fluoro & mono, but I always wondered if it would be effective on braid. No reason it wouldn't I guess, and it's good to have your confirmation. I'll give it a go when I next do a service :)
