We had so much fun walking around our neighborhood & showing you some of our favorite Jewish food spots!. Thank you so much for collaborating with us again and looking forward to filming with you in 2021 and of course Hudson 🐶sends big kisses 😘 to both you and Adriana! Much love to you both from a snowy ❄️ and chilly NYC!
@@beautyinthedark7406 thank you so much for the love and we definitely will collaborate with @herebebarr again! We hope you also enjoy watching some of our YT videos highlighting many unique small businesses in NYC and interesting places to visit. Also, Hudson sends big paws up and kisses to you!
Thank you so much Grez1000 ! Hudson appears in most of our channel videos as he loves visiting places with us and meeting new people and of course getting treats to eat!
Hi...Barr I really enjoy your videos and I didn't know that you are Jewish and if that's so have a happy hannuka with your family I love authentic Jewish food one of my favorite is matzah boll, pastrami from Kath's delicatessen among other things; my ex girlfriend was Jewish and I learned so many good things with her especially the culture and their traditions, shalom from Southern California Guillermo 😎.
Omg love this episode with be here barr and James/ Karla. I worked on eadlst 10th then grand for 12 yrs til 14 mths ago. Missing EV, Les, Chinatown. Moishes, Kosars, Veselkas etc. yum
Great video! As an Italian American who loves living in NYC, the number one reason is the wonderful ethnic food, Russ and Daughters is the bomb thank you for a terrific video.
I first traveled to NYC as a 20-year-old college student. way back in 1975. One of the things I vividly remember was passing by shops just like the bialy and bagel shop and catching the aroma of freshly made bread and bagels. Of course, I had to buy some of each. Unforgettable!!
HISTORY is important we need to know about our past in order to know where we are headed, Great Food. Thank You for showing all this food I am Italian and love all types of food. Bread is universal. all cultures have some type of bread to eat.
Thank you so much Kim Marie! Hudson is definitely a character and loves walking with us and visiting all the shops we highlight. Of course he always wants a treat too. The bagel 🥯 from Kossar’s was really delicious too. We didn’t have it on camera but brought it home and toasted it with some butter and it was extra good! Hope you enjoy watching Hudson again on our channel as we bring him along whenever possible.
Ah Jewish food yay, Moishe's always get their cookies with the sprinkles that's all I've had there I love them, Pickle Guys haven't been there I like new dills but not too new or they taste like cucumbers, Kossar's and Russ and Daughters I've had their lox and bagel sandwiches at both, I like them they were good but as far as just the bagels by themselves I was disappointed, my favorite bagels Bagelsmith Williamsburg Brooklyn, I haven't had a bialy, now I'm going in my kitchen for my second lox and bagel sandwich of the day, I like it on a plain bagel, plain cream cheese, onions, and tomatoes
We definitely recommend trying some of their other fresh items including their hamentaschen and rugelach and they also make a great kichel which is a large flat sugar cookie.
Wonderful video you are never going to fail with this lady she is so knowledgeable. Of course, having Hudson around is always a bonus. Keep up the excellent work. Please make more of this type of video. Lonelyspirit Travel- Birmingham UK
Thank you so much JT Zimm! That sounds like an excellent idea to highlight our favorite Chinatown food spots with Here Be Barr and Hudson can share some of his insight too! Jon let us plan another collab for 2021 as we are sure many of the Chinatown spots will appreciate the highlight as so many are struggling due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
You may have moved to Brklyn but I think you left yr heart in the Village. lol. I was born/lived in the LES before it was gentrified. Back then it was a ghetto/barrio, a tough neighborhood, and the famous 2nd Ave. Deli was on the corner of 2nd Ave and 10th Street, the block where I grew up.
Thank you so much for the love! We definitely recommend trying all these food spots and many more (visit with an empty stomach)! There are so many more wonderful small independently owned shops to check out in the neighborhood too!
Everything looked so delicious! That loaf of Rye looked awesome! Bialys and Bagels, I’m so hungry now. We love James and Karla and of course Hudson.💙💙💙
Wonderful tour! I grew up with all that food and this video reminded me of my grandmother who lived on the Lower East Side all her life and never spoke a word of English!
From one Jew to another, Shalom! Thanks for giving us this showcase! I grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and am currently living in East Flatbush. I would also suggest for people to try the following. Kugel - A Casserole type of dish which is normally made from either Potaotes or Noodles. Cholent- A stew with Meat, Potaotes, Beans, Kishke. Gefilte Fish - Stuffed Fish dish. Challah - Braided Egg Bread Latkes - Potato Pancakes in Oil. (mostly eaten on Hanukkah) Halva - A tasty treat made from Sesame Paste.
Hands up, I'm not Jewish but this video alone would bring me to NYC to try every featured providore. Thank you so, so much for sharing this wonderful heritage we all can celebrate, love the culture of food. Shallom and love from London : - )
Great video, takes me back when I was growing up in LES. There was a movie theater next to the bialy shop, and I use to buy a bag of them, I would watch the entire movie as I ate all the bialy's.
your killing me .....yet another video I will be saving ....with all these fantastic foods areas I will leave NYC twice the size than when I arrived ...I have to say here in Sydney we are lucky food from every culture around the world is available via Deli restaurants shops etc Bagel smoked salmon n cream cheese YUUUUUUUMMMMY what a fantastic video I absolutely love Karla and Hudson and of coarse James
If you really want to get an amazing variety of Jewish/Kosher foods you should check out the neighborhoods in Brooklyn such as Borough Park and Midwood
Wonderful video! People interested in this kind of tour of NYC should also check out the sit-down Russ and Daughters restaurant and the hole-in-the-wall classic Yonah Schimmel’s. And do yourself a favor and visit the Eldridge Street Synagogue when it is open - you’d never think a place of worship could be so homey and folksy, and yet the history there is amazing.
Hello we hope all is well? and we hope you have a great weekend We just want to take this opportunity to say Happy Holidays (before the madness happens) Great Video Thanks for sharing. Stay safe Love and Light Sarah and Glenn
I lived in East New york Brooklyn in the 60s. There was a bialy store that had bialys, wheels (extra large bialys) and pletzels (tube shaped). When you buy a wheel, you tear off pieces and smear butter on the pieces and eat them.
Hey John! Love all your videos, been watching them all for a long time now. In fact my wife recognizes your voice from a mile away, and she worries because she knows your videos will cost us a lot of money. I’ve been to nyc 3 times, tje last time was in January and it was like a here be Barr video, I visited about 60 of the places you recommended in your videos (I try to visit the city every 5 years, so i create a map in google maps where I collect the places I want to try) that trip was amazing and I wanted to thank you for your videos which absolutely inspired it. Saludos desde España, estáis invitados cuando queráis visitar esto!
I love most Jewish food, esp bagels, rye bread with caraway seed, apricot hamatasshin, knineshes, latkas, pickels, and what did I forget? I am of Lithuanian heritage and Czchoslavian.I live in West Hartford,Ct and we have on Jewish market.
So many videos tell us: "Go to Russ & Daughters and have lox on a bagel!" Just like Katz's: "Have a pastrami sandwich!" R&D has whitefish, herring (Bismark and matjes), caviar, sable to die for, plus chocolate jelly rings and bars, and assorted halvah. Just like Katz's has hot dogs, bratwurst, salami, and great corned beef.
Bonjour Jon et Karla ....j adore la nourriture juive.....tellement savoureuse Attention vous parlez beaucoup sans masque et très rapprochė....prenez soin de vous♥️
THREE things that I desperately miss about NYC is the architecture, the subway and the food! We all know and I'm well acquainted with Katz delicatessen, but how could I have missed Grand Street?? Wow, you've given me a street to visit the next time I go home to NYC as I can taste the Lox and Bagels right now in addition to bringing back Bagels & Bialys, I must also bring home real NYC Rye bread and Challah bread. Now if you could recommend a place where I can get Stuffed Derma (Kishka), I'd be grateful enough to put you in my will lol. Thanks, great video!
Really enjoyed this video tour. The Bagel and Nova looked so delicious. It's not just the Bagel and Lox, it's the fact you're eating on the street in New York. Hudson is so handsome. He looks on camera. :)
Nice seeing the restaurant, bakerys.....Northern California we have some brewers of beer are sue the governors because winery's cound stay open when brewers couldn't. When I walk around town I notice people taking take out orders and sitting down outside tables and eating. A tattoo place was still open with people outside. Massage and hair cutting had their windows paper up but I could hear people in them. I don't mind people doing this because we want to support these businesses. I've seen some of my favorite places close. People are in huge lines at stores 20% capacity. A lot of people are shopping thank God. Thanks you for your videos ...
We are SO BLESSED to have an Extremely good Kosher Jewish restaurant here in San Diego (DZ Akins) which is worth the twenty mile drive...They have not QUITE as big Hamentashen as Moishe’s, but wonderful nonetheless! I am culturally not Jewish, but embraced the cuisine when I met my wife, who is Jewish (and hails from YOUR NEW HOME, Park Slope!) three decades ago...This was a VERY nice video that brought back a Lot of great foodie memories (and made me Very hungry, Jon...so THANKS A LOT!)
