June 1983, Smalltown Anywhere, USA. It's 11:25 PM on a Saturday and my friends and I are hanging out in the parking lot of the first McDonald's that ever opened in our town. The lights were bright, but not so bright to make light pollution; overhead were thousands of stars scattered around like a planetarium. And the food was good. The car radios all tuned to the only FM channel playing night mix of stuff that sounded like this. We could see the last drive-in movie's big screen showing Flashdance but with no sound. No problems, just the music and food and being somewhere without your parents for once even you were only 2 miles from home. It was the sum of a perfect storm of a million little things that will never come together that way again.
Endymion766 Your description is fantastic!! I am right there with you. I can still taste the "real" McDonalds fries cooked in beef tallow. Health be damned, those things were great!!!
Endymion766 Amazing how memory evoking Synthwave is... people waffle on about how electronic music lacks soul.... errr guys maybe you should surf the synthwave. Beautiful description of times past btw. Peace.
So true man! It could relate to many places and situations from the past. Exactly, when the sum of the million little things hits you in one great moment, which stays with you forever in your memory. Magic.
The 80s was probably the most epic decade we've ever seen. I was just 9 at the end of the 80s, so didn't experience the full awesomeness of it either..
I was born in '83, and obviously I didn't get a chance to really appreciate this music. It's all about appreciating good music. I listen to classic rock almost all day, but listening to these jams really relaxes me.
About two years since first listening, I just want to come back and say thanks. This mix is what got me into synthwave. I can say my life is the better for having discovered the genre.

One of the best mix that i'm heard. I'm very newbie in this world, but i love it. Love that sounds and the feels that bring to me. PD: sorry for my english. Greetings from Argentina
Reminds of shows like Beyond 2000 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z1TAmxpq3AM.html), and this ever etched vision in my mind of having a home with a nightlight that looks out to the stars while you lay there content and in wonderment.
Tesla Boy, who are on this mix, are Russian and I've seen them in concert a couple of times in St. Petersburg. Technically, you could look up their concert schedule or any other band's on this list. Hope that's a bit helpful. Btw, check out Tesla Boy's song 'Rebecca' - it's my favourite because it's full of this motorbike-neon-highway vibe.
Gelbar when I first heard it, it stood out from the rest of the songs and I sat there for a moment with my mouth open like "whoa.....Damn....". Silent gloves is a genius :)
The 80s - when America loved being America. On a separate note, 4 months ago I ran precisely 10 miles nonstop around the Reflecting Pool in Washington DC. Fueled only by the discovery of this mix. Particularly the opening. Something just came over me. Thumbs up to the creative mind(s) behind the scene. Beautiful : )
You can love your country and criticize it as well. Judging by the number of flags, and fireworks I'm pretty sure Americans still love America - they just question its involvement in foreign wars and brutal racism.
I was on my phone just going through Instagram until I heard the berserk soundtrack at 28:22 and looked up instantly like wait, am I hearing this right best surprise ever. Any berserk fans?
This & the Original "Stranger Synths" mix that was once on RU-vid are my two ALL TIME favorite mixes. They are just absolutely phenomenal, the songs, the sounds, the visuals on this one too. I've listened to this one so many times now. Thank you Gelbar!
ty for the very few ads :) could actually listen it while studying without hearing some random corporate BS . Much luv . know this was released like 2 years ago . But ty anyways
At my stand up desk, writing "30 Days to SuperPowers", dancing, listening to this ... Thank you for sharing. Are you the musician? I play keyboard. 30DaysToSuperPowers.com DumpsterDiverMusical.com KrisKemp.com
So simple in terms of building melodies, but at the same time a great-sounding genre If I still manage to connect my life with music, then I will definitely occasionally resort to writing music in this genre Thanks for the mix, man)
Thank you for taking me back to a time where the world was a better place... A time where people were more friendly, nice and didn't hate each other as much. A time that will never come back. I miss the past.
Mohamed - Ignore the haters, you're absolutely right. I grew up in the 80's and would trade the vitriol and contempt people have for one another today for the disagreements over politics and social issues we had in the 80's any day. Let's hope that the pendulum has swung as far as it can go one way and will begin to swing back to a more civil time very soon.
Love this mix. Did you happen to unlist an old mix of yours with a wormhole traveling visual set to retro sci-fi type synthwave? One song used a movie line from To Live and Die in LA. Was that you? Or do you happen to know it? I really loved that one too!
There's a lot of good chill synth I haven't heard, but what are everyone else's other favorite relaxing or cool synthwave? Mine are Hello Meteor, Duett, Lucy in Disguise, Aileron, Arcis, Bart Graft, Com Truise, Crockett, Electric Youth, FM-84, Germany Germany, Magic Happened, The Northern Lights, Oscillian, Stellar drone, S U R V I V E, Remember, Syntax. A lot of Mitch Murders stuff can be slow. The new Morgan Willis and new Lazerhawk are super chill synthwave. Gunship also at times.
Oh my goh. This noise is not noise. It is, soothing noise. My ears celebrate this noise. It is, dream forming, and inspirational for sleep. G-Night (well, morning, lol).
