We can't wait to share our solar install video. It took Jared and I (mostly Jared) 35 hours. I couldn't have done without him. For RV DIY content, check out All About RVs ➡️ru-vid.com
“25 hours a week”, to edit your videos. Wow! I did not realize it was so long. Yet the time spent clearly shows in the quality of your videos. Thanks for your efforts and keep up the good work.
I notice that you guys are mostly out west. Any experience east of the Mississippi? We’re in northwest Ohio and would love to boondocks but it doesn’t seem as available as out west. Any advice?
SN 1 went around the US. We still need to hit the middle. Maybe next summer. You're right. There are not as many BLM and dry camping options as the west. I wish I could help more
You make a good point about recapping each trip and going over what went well, and what could improve. Where I work, we build and install conservatories, and after each project, we would have a company meeting--we call it a debrief--where we do just that, trying to improve our process and iron out the glitches, and reflect on what went well so we could continue doing it. On your trip to Alaska, if you get to Homer, I highly recommend seeing the Kilcher homestead, of "Alaska the Last Frontier" fame. It's fascinating hearing from a family member the history of the Kilchers and the homestead. It's free, but you do need a reservation. Also, Kilcher Road, the access road to the homestead, is not rv-friendly (although we did see a Class A make it through). It's a dirt road, with steep grades and tight switchbacks. But regardless, the scenery on Kachemak Bay is spectacular, and the history is fascinating. The Kilchers' website is kilcheralaskacabins.com/KILCHER_HOMESTEAD_LIVING_MUSEUM/KILCHER_HOMESTEAD_HOMEPAGE.html.
Can't wait till you guys come to Alaska. We live in Wasilla, AK and love it here. We are also planning a loop trip here in Alaska this summer in our truck camper. We are starting from our home in Wasilla and going to Denali for a few days. Its our first time to Denali (can't wait). We are also going to to Fairbanks. We are going to Chena hot springs while visiting Fairbanks. You guys will have a blast here. We have been to most places you listed on your Alaska trip. If you have questions about the area let me know I will see if I can answer them. I didn't hear you mention Seward. Are you going to Seward? Seward is a great little Alaska city. If you do, stay at the City of Seward Campground. You can get a site (with hookups) right on the water and see the boats come in and out every day (very reasonable priced). They also have a great boardwalk by the small boat harbor and a free shuttle (stops right at the campground) that will bring you around the city. Hope we get to see you while you are up here. Clay & Christina Lucas
Sweet. We can't wait. Yes, we're planning on Seward too. I mentioned it at the end, but that's when Trish got a little wishy washy. That will be a busy time of our trip with the kids obligations and we're still trying to make it all work. See you up there.
Hello from Florida! I just discovered you guys this weekend and I’ve been binge watching your videos and love all of them. Awesome family. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s sparking some dreams again that had dimmed. Looking forward learning more about RVing and building my own dreams of travel.
Tim, you're so lucky. I found them about 2 months ago and my 1-3 KYD vids per day is...sadly over. Now I can only get my Fix once a week! Enjoy it while it lasts!
We are going to camp in our driveway this weekend...we just bought a TT and want to practice before we leave on a 14 day trip in June! My husband and I have a competition, who ever forgets something and has to go in the house for it, they lose! I'm making lists for my lists!
Hey there Mark and Trish. Here’s a question I don’t think you or other sites have addressed. First, let me say that my family has been rv’ing since the mid 70s. Now, WE are in our mid 70s and are forced to give it up due to health issues. We still want to experience the outdoors and your comments regarding the Arches and Monument Valley are really encouraging for us. Even though you both are far too young to have even considered the possibility of hanging up your spurs, so to speak, have you had conversations with other RVers in our situation and do you have some recommendations for road trips that might come even close to simulating the RV outdoor experience while traveling by vehicle only? We know this would be hotel/motel based trips and we have to return to home base between. Hoping you may have some insights to share. We love watching your channel and have done so for some time. Keep up the excellent work.
All the hours of hard work really shows in the quality of your videos and we appreciate it. We also appreciate the positive vibes you guys put out. Almost feel guilty that we get it for free! 😁
This next season is sounding like so much fun. I have a friend in Alaska that keeps asking me to come up. Jarrod sounds like my kind of guy. I help so many people with their RV plumbing, electric, and leaks, I'll have to write down his web sight as a reference for my customers. Looking forward to receiving my t shirt, and hopefully buying a cheaper motorhome to take a trip to Rapid City South Dakota for a wedding next month. We'll see, I hope it all comes together. Great tips all the way around. I always recommend walkie talkies for communicating when backburner other things,as well as refer to driver side or passenger side saves a lot of confusion. Happy travels :-)
Two seasons ago I was a little sad about you leaving Mexico, but everywhere you go and all the things you do are magnificent. I am so in love with the Banff area. And while I've seen the Grand Canyon, I've never seen Arches and the many other places you took us. I loved our recap. I remember all of them. What an awesome season. I know nothing about vehicle and/or rv maintenance. Even thoughI don't have one I think it's great that you are videoing all the upgrades and maintenance. It's good for everyone to be aware of the types of things that come up. As others have mentioned, I think a checklist when setting up and when breaking down, even what to pack/carry would be a great idea for you to include in another video. I'm soooo looking forward to seeing Alaska through you guys. You do such an awesome job. 25-30 hours of editing is a lot of time, but you guys do an awesome job and it pays off. I haven't done video yet, but I enjoy amateur photography. Thanks for everything, and God speed.
Something for a "newbie" or anyone that can be a bit forgetful, is a check list of items to check. We use them in aviation and it keeps you from forgetting a step in set up and disconnecting. Seems when I forget something it is from being interrupted. A check list will get you back on track.
Can't wait for Season 5! T-shirts are coming!! After the fiasco with our newly purchased Defective 5th wheel (roof all smashed in and no apparently they don't check the roof on trade-ins!!) We returned it and found ourselves having to purchase new to recover our money so brand spanking new Reflection Grand Design 29RS 5th wheel coming home in 2 weeks!! Then we are off to have the Summer to Remember!!
In the army we call the talk at the end of trips or training A AAR (after action review) we did 3 ups and 3 downs then talk about improvements. Now I'm waiting for my shirts to come in.
Hey Marc- got a little bit behind following your channel these last dozen days- I got a job at an RV show (Freedom RV) at the Spokane County Fairgrounds, and having never sold an RV, it was a huge enjoyable learning curve! I sold 4 RVs, and had a blast. I look forward to following your trip to Alaska, and let us know if you will be coming through eastern Washington / western Idaho, Ok? Thanks, and many blessings as you travel! Bob
Awesome video! Thank you so much about mentioning the ease of someone that is disabled to view areas in different parks. I am a a retired disabled veteran (USAF) and have to use a scooter at times, but I am determined to be able to keep moving and seeing as much of the country as possible. Thank you for being the inspiration that you are!
*Newly Updated Safety Suggestions; I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. Although, I just noticed your RU-vid channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living. I just wanted to remind everyone to Aware Be of your surroundings and Alert, I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc... People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others RU-vidrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their RU-vid channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Carry Several Extra portable phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission. Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. Exterior vehicle cameras Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies. Use your own discretion regarding the use of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. Keep your vehicle gas filled Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set to rotate. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. Keep Enjoying Yourself, Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature Just..Please continue to Be Positive, Safe, and Alert.. Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All. Took a break tonight from our you tube instructor “KYD “ to watch ....KYD !!!! Loving the video instructions Marc !!! Hubby and I are learning so much !!! So excited for Alaska !!!
#summertoremember Bought our first camper and about to do our first dry docking since camping with hook ups went so well. Did i mention we do it with THREE german shepherds!!! In a REAL LITE PALOMINO?? Omg. I must be nuts lololol
Just finished a weekend rendezvous to Blue Mountain Lake, Mount Magazine Arkansas. The weather was gorgeous, except for the humidity (welcome to summer in the mid-south). I'm looking to get my KYD SummerToRemember t-shirt this week, hopefully. Our next outing is to a local ACoE park along the Arkansas River that we call close to home. Then we won't go out for about a month...but that next trip will be our first one to an Arkansas State Park for a long weekend, and then we have a week-long trip planned for another Arkansas State Park near the AR-MS border.
I drove out of Alaska in April 2010 and it was some long hours on the road hoping for gas stations. Plan it right and bring cash. I stopped roughly every 100-150 miles if I could, because there was a couple times I couldn't stop for 500 miles. Carry extra fuel!!!
My wife and I recently purchased our first RV, after a couple of decades hiatus from RVing. We had diverted into the cruise ship scene which we did enjoy but finally reached our limit. We had camping experiences along the way as well, even joined a couple of camping clubs, but we mainly rented their “cabins” or stayed with friends in their RV. So after both of us retiring a couple of years ago, we decided we needed to go a different route and started the search for our own RV. Once we realized we needed to modify (not compromise) our expectations, after watching your channel and ‘All About RVs’, we found a used 2015 Forest River Flagstaff Micro-lite 25KS, which is perfect for the two of us. Thank you for the great insights and encouragement you provide. We look forward to watching future videos.
Looking forward to the next few "upgrade's" video's. That's where we are with our Cougar. I'm enjoying all the great video's of Utah and Arizona. Reminds me of when I was trucking threw there. Utah always reminds me of the Road Runner cartoons.
On your Alaska trip; we went up the Alcan to Fairbanks, did the tour back to the Homer/Seward, back to Tok and took the Casisiar Hwy back through BC. Awesome trip! You won't be disappointed. Questions? Let me know, would be glad to help out!
You will LOVE Alaska. We have lived here for 5 years and it has been quite the adventure. When you are in Anchorage be sure to stop at Moose's Tooth Pizza!! It's the BEST! Safe travels!
My husband and I are currently planning to transition to full-time RV life in 2022. We are big off-road lovers. We currently have a Jeep. We realize we can also do this with a truck (like yours), however, our biggest worry is that we are going to depend on this vehicle and we would hate to find ourselves with serious damage leaving us immobile because of something that done on the off-road adventure. How do you balance enjoying an off-road experience and relying upon this vehicle to haul your home? Alternative suggestions are, of course, welcome.
You guys are just the most awesome family. I can't even imagine you ever not getting along. Or being frustrated with each other. I love you all. A FAN from Lubbock, Texas.
Love you guys!!! Thank you for all you beautiful videos and helpful tips. My family and I are selling our big house to go full time RV 🙌 Beyond excited. #oregon We love following your journey and look forward to your videos every week!!!
I received our shirts today, thank you.. We are so excited to have the summer of our dreams this year with us going to 5 national parks around America. So, KYD get ready for a photo of us at each location. KYD is AWESOME!!!!
Great video tips! We love Albuquerque and Santa Fe and visit almost yearly. It helps to have family there. We can't wait to visit with our motorhome! Safe travels!
How about a meet-up in Redding, CA? We are currently living in our Grand Design in the mountains outside of Redding and we love you guys! Thanks for all of the videos. You have been an inspiration for sure :)
You guys are such wonderfully cheerful people. I applaud your fabulous togetherness as a family. That balloon snippet was amazing. I wish you health and happiness for your onward journey. God bless xx
Glad to see so much of Utah in your season 4. We love it here. You are correct on the weekend travel that is what we do and have based our channel around. Someday we will make it to a meet up. Keep up the good work. Stay safe in your travels. Congrats on your channels success.
Thank you, both. Sometime on the road, I look forward to a shared glass. Meanwhile, may we all "mind the dips" in our lives with love, curiosity and compassion. Safe travels up north.
Sean-That book was very incredible. I know what you mean about the harsh reality Eugene wrote. I served 38 months in Vietnam in the Pacific theater and, while my war wasn't a piece of cake, the battles those WWII men went thru gained my utmost respect. Only thing missing was the smells in the humid air. War is not fun. it's not a video game that lets you win points or do-overs...And you just don't come home the same boy you were when you left. It never leaves you..you just make friends with it or go crazy. Thanks for your tribute.
Don't know how you guys feel about this idea, but here goes.... How about a video segment done by your kids for traveling with mom and dad? What are some of their thoughts for newbies, best trips, how to "get away" from the daily frustrations, etc.; basically a younger version of your videos!
"Mind the Dip" sounds like a great t-shirt idea...would create conversation within the lifestyle; I know I would ask what it means. Great videos and content, love the website too. Thanks!
Hey Mark Im hoping that your upgrades for the truck are an 8 inch lift kit some big ol 22" monster mudders, led light bar, heavy duty moose bumper guard and some chrome auto folding step bars. Then for the trailer an axle flip, air ride and 18" rims. I think you really need these. Ill be on your team when the little woman tries to talk you out of it lol. Looking foreards to season 5. Have a safe trip guys and keep the videos coming. My family and I can hardly wait for Sunday night to roll around.
Hey guys. May we just say we love you and what you're doing. We have been watching you guys for some time now and you are our role models. Lol I know you dont k ow us but we just admire what you're doing and have been greatly inspired by you. So thank you from the bottom of out hearts for everything you share we with us all through RU-vid land. We finally made our dream happen and got out travel trailer. We noticed that you guys a new diesel truck. Congratulations by the way. We were wondering if you guys notice any difference when you're towing and what mileage you make in gas. We have a gas truck and get about 10 miles per gallon. Thank you guys stay blessed and keep doing what you're doing. We love you.
Awesome vid! We've been watching your videos and absolutely love them! Great content! We live in Colorado and have camped and backpacked all over the Rockies. But now we've reached a point where we want to travel and explore more of the country other ways than hotels or boat camping in tents haha. Considered RV'ING for a while now, so we're in the process of finding a tow vehicle and a rig. You guys are a great inspiration and have demonstrated how to do it right and how to have a blast doing it. Hope to run into you guys out there someday!
I hope someday my family and I can start our dream . We are trying very hard to get it going . I admire you both and thank you for letting us into your lifestyle. It gives me hope
Alaska is going to be so fun. I am in Fairbanks right now visiting grandkids and lived in Homer for almost 20 years. I believe it is the most beautiful place in Alaska. Can’t wait to see it as you go. Darlene Lorentzson
Wow I can’t believe season 4 is in the books already. Really looking forward to seeing the upgrade videos to come really love them. Can’t wait to see Alaska season 5 love you guys.
bumming....put my new shirt on Saturday at the beach for the start of baseball tournaments and beach and in less than an hour (from the hotel to the field) I had a hole under the right arm! just letting you know in case others have same issue you know to get shirts from a different vendor next time. Don't worry....i plan on wearing mine completely out this summer, still.
Alaska Land Alaska in Fairbanks Alaska Denali National Park Juno Alaska is a Beautiful place there is so much to see in Alaska I couldn't begin to tell you North Pole Alaska Santa Claus house
Either on your way to Alaska or on your way back try to visit Barkerville BC. Restored gold rush town that is fun to visit. Check out the Theatre Royal there. Also visit Wells for local artistry.
Yes we bought our travel trailer so that we could do do much more with the family while the kids are on summer break 😊 we did our first trial run with the kids and camper about 2 weeks ago. It was 3 nights but a nice time. Our next one is like 2 1/2 weeks away it be like 8 nights and the kids are excited.
You folks are the BEST! This is Dave again and I still want to meet you guys on the way up to Alaska or at a place near Anchorage. We plan to spend our time in the Anchorage area. Hope to see all of you.
That Bell feature on RU-vid is awesome. Right click on it allows me to select the " back" option to go to the last video to click the thumbs up and the "forward" option to go to video I advanced to. There are other options too, however, these are my favorites so far. Keep up the daydream.
I'm so excited for you guys for your trip! The scenery is jaw droppingly SPECTACULAR! And this is coming from someone who lives in Vancouver, Canada. The road trip up there is amazing as well - our family especially loved Liard River Hotsprings and Watson Lake Signpost Forest. Happy trails!
You two along with your three are doing an absolutely incredible job of showcasing your life and travel don’t change a thing thanks for sharing keep up the good work. 👊👍😎
Each and everyone of our big mistakes - have been due to that rushed feeling that we ourselves created. Taking your time is so important - and the dip - it happens all the time and getting over it - not allowing that dip to ruin your time - great stuff guys!
hi guys i love upgrade videos lols i can learn too and yes i am as excited for your trip to Alaska as you are ---- i look forward too every sunday night ---- safe travels -- take care
Loved this video, especially the word of advice about getting through the dip! Brilliant. I am living in a hotel right now for my work (and will be for probably another month), and just to hold my place...and keep me happy while I am away from family and loved ones, I have started "keep your day dream" from the beginning. I think I am up to ep. 24 or so..Thank you for hours of joy and great humor...I get the biggest kick out of your kids. Thanks once again for all you do, the quality of your workmanship, and just for being so real, grounded and wise.
:) Thanks. Wow. #24. Lots to go. That's good. We never liked catching up to real-time with the channels we watch. Sometimes we get to the end and find out the last video was a year ago. What? You can't stop!
Your videos are so helpful and entertaining. I need to start from the beginning and binge watch all of them. I need to learn as much as I can before taking the plunge!
If possible get out on a glacier and do some ice climbing. St Elias Alpine guides in the McCarthy-Kennicott area are great. Don't miss Seward, we've volunteered at the Alaska SeaLife Center the last two summers that place is great.
Looking forward to the new season! We have already started a special savings account just to do the balloonfest! We will probably join in with the Fulltime Families group while there, but you know, that full hookup site is something to save for! *grin* Thanks to the entire family for sharing your adventures. Truly amazing!
I have watched a lot of youtube videos, but have never really desired to watch every video on any channel. I have been binge watching all your videos because I love the content, but really love the transparency and authenticity with which you present your travels. I feel like I am a member of the family, so thanks for taking me on your journey! I have been inspired.
