Great interview. Simple and to the point. Mercury should consider...option to place the engines together so that two of them can be married. So that the manufactures can really give back the dive platform and stern to the customers.

Really interesting idea there William, I like it!

Nice job on the interview Marcus 👍 As for the steerable gear case, I prefer simplicity of design. My gut tells me that lower unit has to be insanely expensive to service, repair or replace. That's why I am not a pod fan. Still pretty cool technology.

I'm concerned with the reliability and also how fast it will ware of the bottom part that rotates... Hello from São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷 Brazil 🇧🇷.

What's the weight of the 600 and the 500 engines?

Definitely not targeted at us common folk. We'll mostly see these on 50ft+ boats. For those boats, owners will be able to replace their 5-6 outboard setups with only 3-4 of these 600s. So they'll be paying $15-20k more per engine, but they'll need 2 less engines.

for best outboard ever if you are refering to large outboards i would have to say that the marine 7 627 would have to be in my opinion the Best Outboard Motor Ever.

In the history of ALL gas V12’s engines, marine or otherwise, has any manufacturer ever produced a reliable V12 and I’ve got money that says this will be no different.

Hey Merc, beautiful outboard but dump the duo prop set up and go with a single rotating Sharrow prop and you'll get better performance and reduce the cost and complexity of the counter rotating drives. Of course this will mean admitting that the Sharrow prop is a far better design than current prop designs (basically putting you out of the prop business) but Yamaha has already signed on

$5,000 per prop -- Sharrow Marine
@richmac918
@richmac918 Год назад
True, but what is the cost of the duo prop set up, not just the props but the complexity of the drive? Dump it all, one prop that out performs the two. When you’re dealing with a motor of this size and cost wouldn’t you want to extract the best performance you can get out of the motor?

@@richmac918 If I was much younger, or buying a brand new boat and/or motors, I would consider the Sharrow at the sale, but not a re-fit. I'm almost 55 and a weekend fisherman/boatsman (

Understood, me either. I have a 20’ runabout that I probably put 100 hours on per year. It would take me 30 years to recoup my money and at that point I’d probably have to repower 4 times. Doesn’t make sense for a lot of people but if you have a bigger boat, use it a lot and have the money it certainly does. At some point Merc is going to have to bite the bullet and acknowledge that this revolutionary design (and it is just that). It’s like comparing polyglass tires from the 60’s with steal belted radials. Doesn’t matter how good your engine is if it can’t put the power down, or in this case, into the water. Merc sells a lot of props and I’ll bet they are watching this closely. These motors are $75K each but what good is it if someone can toss a $5K prop on a 450 and give it a run for it’s money and save a lot of gas in the process

Need a few years before any conclusion can be made as far as reliability, traditionally Mercury has had more issues and reliability, breakdowns, etc. than all others combined. Sucks that dealers were forced to use them during supply shortages

I’ve had Merc’s and never had an issue. Are you speaking from experience or the “I heard it from someone who heard it from someone” syndrome?
