Due to a recent business conflict we can no longer supply a discount code for HHV products as promised. I sincerely apologize for this change; however, we have reached an irreconcilable point and must cut ties with HHV. That said, the VSO affiliates page has many others for VSO viewers to take advantage of. Thank you.

Agreed. Im curious to see how black velvet fabric does since it has such low light transmission at least in the visible spectrum. I think it typically beats out black 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. I wanna say it has only about 0.4% light transmission. Here's the video link for reference. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xr1AiExSAnU.html

We knew about this in the military years ago. The plastic quick buckles and snaps on gear was like a bright beacon under NV and IR. We would spray paint them to subdue. When we.swapped over to the failed ACU/ UCP they even came with a list of suggested detergents to use so as not to destroy the UV " protection" and signature

I went to SDI and graduated with an associate's degree in firearms engineering. I definitely learned more than most but not enough to be a proficient gunsmith in an active shop. It's a good stepping stone but realize there are so many facets of firearm technology that you can't possibly be trained in all situations you may handle. They do have a fantastic career services branch after graduation but I live in a place that the nearest referred job was 3hrs away. It's great for the individual who wants to be self-sufficient in repairing/servicing personal firearms.

@SuspiciousGanymede

@@drunkswithguns4124 you would be the perfect demographic for the program. SDI will give you some basic/advanced skills and ideas to choose your own path in firearms. I make about $300/month fixing, repairing and modifying firearms as a side hustle. If you're in the top 10% of graduates you'll be referred to presitge firearm manufacturers. I got referred to SOLGW, Rainier Arms, Magpul and a few other up and coming companies but I was not willing to relocate during the social unrest last year. The only one I wish had been in there is the Rust-Oleum Camo line of paints. I typically use those for spraying guns, so I'd be interested to see how they perform in IR. One thing that I'm glad you mentioned is the anodized suppressor. Black anodizing glows gray-white in IR, food for thought considering most ARs are finished with black anodizing. Any paint is probably better than nothing.

I’m no scientist or anything, but the high heat black’s function is to withstand the heat generated by stoves, grills and such. Our NV equipment detects IR, which is a form of heat (thus IR Grills). So it makes sense to me that the high heat paint is designed to reflect heat/IR. Might be something to keep in mind when marking a route visible to NVGs. IR tape sticks out when someone has seen it before, so it’s easy to find in daylight, but a shot of black paint wouldn’t stand out in urban or wooded environment. Of course I mention this for finding my hunting stand in the dark.

I found an old M715 military Jeep and put a 350 chevy in it. Awesome truck, but knew it needed the right paint. As it was always driven through brush, the paint needed to hold up well, and easy to touch up. I used rustoleum, quart cans, thinned and sprayed. I mixed brown, black, and dark green for the color I wanted, which of course was close to Viet Nam era military, but darker. The truck would absolutely disappear at night through the naked eye. You should do a comparison like this with vehicles, camoed, and even bed liner painted trucks. Show us how they look in ir.

Back when I was in light infantry I kept a few sets of BDU's totally away from regular fabric detergents so they wouldn't glow from UV brightener additives. As you figured out them products will defeat the camo in hunting clothes. Many times I had to show soldiers that, with NVD in the field. Some (most) higher rank wouldn't listen, even though it was put on the label of military gear. They was more interested in "looking good" than being good at the job.

You can usually get that cheapo paint in flat black as well. I'd be interested to see if that does the same, better or worse than the gloss black. One of the things I find with the cheap paint is that even the gloss isn't very glossy, which I think may be why it performed decently. The flat black might do even better.

I don't know how anybody can afford to spend almost $5,000 on a night vision monocular nowadays. It's amazing that in all this time, a 25 year old optic is still that expensive, and still considered the best. I guess when the government contract is already in the hands of one company, it doesn't exactly allow for many upstarts. No real competition equals high price. Most of the people I've seen on RU-vid say pretty much everything else is junk.

I was hoping someone who had nightvision would do a clothing video. I know that different manufacturers use different kinds of dyes in their fabric as well as different blends of material (cotton, nylon, & polyester), as well as the weave of the fabric (twill, regular, and rip-stop). I know of three manufacturers that produce BDU's that are popular to civilians, airsofters, and freedom minded persons; Tru-Spec, Propper, and Rothco. If you can get your hands on a set of BDU's in 100% cotton, 50/50 cotton-poly blend, 60/40 cotton-poly blend, in rip-stop, twill, and regular weave. Once you got the basic trial items then try out different laundry detergents on these items since you had that issue (which is new to me) of the laundry soap that made your clothes glow under IR light and see which laundry detergents to avoid.

Very interesting results. I personally don't like the super dark black colors in my environment under NV since it's easy to pick out versus other colors. I live in an area where lighter colors like blueish greens and browns work best - there are no natural deep blacks here. Therefore, something matte and brighter under IR like the rust oleum high heat would be more suited to my environment. I don't believe there is one perfect paint; it's deeper than that. Performance is relative.
