I really appreciate you taking the time to view my video. I really like how you spilled out in your video what needs to make sense when installing these Govee lights. Everyone pays a pretty penny to buy these govee lights and everyone ask these questions but that’s the reason why they do it, so you can buy more. I’m trying to help to viewer so that’s why I started making videos on theses lights. I don’t know what happened to my comment on your page but I’d like to post again if your ok with it. Maybe one day we can collaborate on a topic. Good luck with your journey my man.👍

Great video and great advice. I have just 2 comments or suggestions. First, I have discovered that when i use the solider and seal connectors sometimes the wire will poke through the plastic side causing a possible short situation. So i place a section of shrink tubing with the glue/sealer inside over the connectors as added insurance. Then also to further seal with another shrink tube over all three extrnded about 1/2 inch past each end. Second, i had enough overhang of my facia board that i put my lights on the back of the facia board aming toward the house. Thus hides the lights almost completely and lights up washing the house wall much brighter.
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 10 месяцев назад
Thank you for commenting. I’ve never had that issue with this brand of solder and seal when you mention the wire poking through. I have had this issue when using just the heat shrink sleeve without the solder so I stop using that type. The sleeve on these have a silicone in them when they get heated up when properly done. I can see someone who doesn’t know how to work with these have that issue so that is a good suggestion to have another seal cover the hole connections after complete. Wouldn’t hurt. To answer your suggestion on the lights on the back of the fascia facing the wall. Installed this way for one of my clients because they asked for it to begin and they ended up not liking it. They would rather have the triangle effect like shown in my videos instead of blasting light shown on the wall. Of course they paid me to re do it and it wasn’t worth the hours and headaches we got from it so I’ll never bring that up. I do mention to all my clients that it isn’t track lighting. Most of them are ok with it because it’s a knockoff from bigger types of lighting at a lower cost. For the ones that will pay to paint the lights to match the soffit, I’ll do it for them. Also have to consider a house I did had 4 different soffits spacing in the front alone, some 5inches some 12 inches and the others in between. Casting would've been different in those areas. So to keep everything even as I always recommend 2 to 4 inches. Thank you, this will help with someone’s install

@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 10 месяцев назад
@@martybli thank you for watching my video. If you decide to do this on the picket side(usually to the street) then the white wire will stand out and the lights will need to be put on their sides if you want the triangle effect. Or you can face them out. If you do it on the inside, it would work on the edge of the top rail 2x4 with the adhesive pad and clips. This install will be close to a home installation look.

Hi there thanks for the video. How does that 18/3 connector wire hold up to the elements over time being exposed to the TX heat, rain, etc. just laying on the shingles like that? That's my only concern that it's not hidden behind the eaves in the attic. I live in FL we have horrible humidity and sun.
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 9 месяцев назад
The lights and wire are rated IP-67 rated. 65-67 both provide a high level rating and provide excellent protection for outdoor enclosures. I did spray a clear protectant over the line of the 12’ extension to protect it from some of the elements which I didn’t show in the video. I apply this to most painted materials when I do handyman projects to protect outdoor paints exposed to elements. Some of these items we keep addressing in our future installations so it wouldn’t hurt to protect them more if you can. Thank you for your questions

@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 3 месяца назад
We typically don’t do 2-ways or 3 ways because the devices can be grouped as one system. If you wanted to make a 2 or even a 3 way, just keep in mind whatever line you tie into, those lights will mirror that strand. Which is not a problem when you use your Govee scenes but only a problem when you do your accent spot lighting as you turn a particular lights, the strand attached will also respond. He is something you can try out to see if it works for you amzn.to/4aFXiYn

I thought I saw somewhere that when you cut the light sections there is a minimum number of lights needed in that section for them to still work. I have a corner overhang that would only need like 4 lights on it and it would be spliced on both ends of that four light strand. Would that work out cause a problem? Thanks and great video.
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 10 месяцев назад
Hi there and thanks for watching. Yes, they are group of 4 sections. You can’t end with less than 4. When you splice it, make sure to use liquid electrical tape. Before you do that, make sure no copper strands touch each other. I have a new video coming out that explains the set up and app features that will explain your question.

Hi, what wires are those on 12:15 time stamp to jump over the 2nd floor roof? We’re thinking of doing 150ft around the house and a 100ft at the 2nd floor, do you have the link for the 12ft extensions or was it provided by govee?
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 10 месяцев назад
Hi there. Thank you for watching my video. That is the 12’ extension provided by Govee. There were two jumps like this. 3 and 7. They were 9ft jumps only and I cut the connections off so that way we did not have all that extra line left on each one. Then those cut off connections, we used them in other locations we spliced the strands and put the heat shrink sleeves with the solder. I hope this answers your question. If you need to make small jumps, the link is in my description (18-3 BTF) Keep this in mind, 100ft box comes with one 12ft extension. 150ft box comes with two 12ft extension. Look at your house and see if you will need two major jumps. Unfortunately you can’t just order extensions last time I checked.

JB, would you be able to share based on your expertise, are Govee PRo same, better or less quality compared to trimlight , oleo or minleon? Guess my point is will these be with installing and lasting long enough compared to competitors ?
@jbsdiytv
@jbsdiytv 4 месяца назад
I never encourage defamation of another business practices. Govee lights don’t have a track vs the other competitors installs. Factor that in price. I have had my no pro lights on my home installed for about 2yrs now and can say this, I run mine for 12hrs everyday. They look great and are bright. The light is defined by the cone on the wall. It’s not a must to run them that long but I’m doing it for testing purposes for longevity. They do have 50,000hrs of life. You can have your lights stay up there on the soffits if you actually take some extra time to clip every light, use 3D mounts sold by others or customize yours to raceway channel. Other businesses who install permanent lighting are now competing with homeowners purchasing their own type of permanent lighting so of course bash the product off info on research that a bad installer did. Do it right the first time and you won’t have problems. From an installers perspective on the non pros and pros, we choose to install the pros because they are easier to install. For example, the non pros are one directional LEDs when splicing. It must all go back the way it was cut. The pros, the strands don’t need to be cut in sequence. I can take a piece from another strand and they still work. You still need to keep the connectors running the same though. Non pros are not warranted after splicing but pros are warranted if spliced. The non pros use 3 colors to make white vs the pros have specific LEDs designated for both warm and cool white and that’s a major pure difference. On non pros when installed from left to right it shows white with a tint of green and when installed right to left it shows white with a tint of purple. Pros are slightly brighter. Hope this gives you a perspective on the product and the two kit differences

The link to the 18-3 wire is in the description. You can also use 20-3 if it isn’t available but keep them under 2ft to avoid voltage drop. You can splice between the 12ft extension provided by Govee but keep that under 18ft

Thank you for watching. The kit on the Govee website does say do not splice. Now, they say that cause if you do, it voids their warranty. That doesn’t mean they can’t be spliced but you need to have some knowledge of voltage drop when customizing your own length of wire jumps and take the amount of strands you have vs how many times you have to customize. Like I mentioned in the video, do all this at your own risk

@mpsmoov128 yes we have started using way more clips than what Govee recommends. We purchased a bulk amount on Ali express since we are doing 1 govee install a day. Also, I don’t recommend using liquid nail on these lights. We have tested them out and during the installation the strand stop working so our installations are easily able to slide the strand out of the clips and replace a new strand. Also, if one goes out in a few years, they will damage when removed as wood and hardiplanks paint get removed from the surface. We install all our lights 2” from the wall using a 2x2” cube. We bring this up to every new client and they agree because they have seen my RU-vid channel. 6” is something we tried and our client ask us to move it closer cause they didn’t like the round effect. If none of this works, start troubleshooting. Grab your power adapter and controller and test each strand to respond to the factory reset

Whats happens if you exceed the 150ft light? I bought two 100 ft packs just curious. I will probably wire the back side of my house with the extra 50ft if it just cant be done

There are two types outdoor permanent lights. Once being the non pros and the pros. Please specify which 100ft kit you purchased as each example doesn’t apply to the other

@@jbsdiytv Yeah mine are non pro. I know the pro version supports 200ft.

@Scott-iw8yr ok thank you for that info. On the 150ft non pro kit which is model H705C supports 9 strands(9 segments) 108 lights. Anything pass this one device model will not light up nor read in the app. Yes buy a 50ft and add them in same model group to control as one

Link provided for the clips are little different from the ones used in the video. I would like to use the. Nail gun as well will these clips made of the the Same material. I would hate to purchase them and find out that they crack if nailed with gun. Thanks for the video

The ones you are looking for keep selling out. Yes those are different but they work for all our installs. Make sure it sits flat on the surface material

What is the distance you use to install them from the wall? Looks really nice.

Hi there and thanks for your comment. We used a 2x2 (2inch) wood craft block to space our lights for install. This helps to give the cone effect that everyone comments on. There is a link in my description to purchase either 2,3 or 4inch blocks. Further than 4” makes the light expand out to a rounded look if that’s your thing.
