Very informative yet again Derek, but I always tend to use the Rawlplug 10mm metal expander plugs that you use the expander gun with. I've never had a problem with them and they'll take some big weights. 👍
Yep, I use these too. I got a kit with various sizes of fixings, about 30 in quantity if I recollect, it came complete with the expander gun. I bought it from LidI a couple of years ago think it cost around £9.99. Simple to install and extremely effective.
So impressed you've come up with this demo! Plasterboard and lath and plaster are notorious for not being able support anything more than lightweight applications! With the use of "dot and dab" I've found Core Fix provde a good solution. If fixing into plasterboard,it's a question of don't expect too much! Back in the day, timber grounds did the job. Today we're spoilt for choice and maybe the most appropriate fixing is overlooked.
Hi Derek, Using an impact driver on those pig tail screws is fatal. It's got to much punch. I use hollow wall anchors. You need the tool but they work well for me. Best tool to buy is one in the Fischer range. Other cheap brands are rubbish.
if you said u were putting a radiator on the wall from the start then anyone of them would of worked, the whole point of your experiment was do they hold the correct weight in plasterboard, then at the very end u flung a curve ball in there to hold a heavy radiator, so all in all, what u did was advertising for the last holding
Fastbrolly type fixing are the best Del Boy. However, it’s all to do with the area behind the Plasterboard. Heavy items should always be fixed through Plasterboard into Dwangs/Knoggins. Even a thin Lath behind the board will hold better than most of these Plastic ones, as it’s pulling on a much bigger area. The other big issue with Plasterboard is its moisture content, bone dry board will hold a lot more than any other. You’d never use an Impact Driver to set-in Pigtail Type fixings, always just a simple screwdriver. But hey, they’re crap anyway!
