Great overview of the best pocket/action cameras for 2023. And it was a very good year, all the new cameras are very good. My favorite was the Pocket 3. Thanks for sharing.
Hi William For someone starting out with videos and RU-vid, would you recomend Osmo Action 6 with an iPhone OR going for either Osmo Action 4 (with a small gimbal - recomendation here?)OR Osmo Pocket 3 - I know you are a huge fan of thgis platform! I look forward to hearing from you. Regards Ian - all the way in South Africa!
Hi, sorry for the late answer. That is quite difficult to answer, considering that you will have ultra-wide focal length on the Action 4, the iPhone combination will probably give you the most versatility out of those options.
The pocket 3 looks an outstanding product if you only need 20mm. I wanted a P3 to put on my small ratrig slider for food clips, where I could track the product center frame. Its a shame you can't really use the 2x zoom
One pro for the Iphone could be log/raw video capabilities. It looks amazing (as far as I saw it on RU-vid) but unfortunately I could not try it myself.
Yes, Log and RAW capabilities of the 15 Pro are great, but the problem is that are way too difficult to work with for the general public. People who actually know how to work with them properly already have DSLM cameras that vastly surpass 15 Pro capabilities, so real-world benefits of very Pro features on the 15 Pro are somewhat questionable.
Thanks for the great roundup plus out of the box recommendation that people look at the ZVE-10. That's good food for thought depending on usecase. Was the repeated sentence at the end for emphasis or an error?
The iPhone's excessive lens flare dots in low light settings compared to other phones is a deal breaker for me. It is unfortunate because I like the iPhone's video otherwise.
Hopefully Canon releases a proper 360 camera with image quality comparable to the Action 4, and with VR180 3D capabilities as well. My new favorite is the Pocket 3, it color grades really well, isn't far behind mirrorless devices. My main camera is the a7rV, got the 35 and 75mm anamorphic lenses, as well as traditional ones. A ZV-E1 would be very tempting for its small size and dynamic active stabilization with the tiny Samyang 18mm f/2.8. The new Ulanzi fan would mitigate the overheating, but I only shoot shorter clips at a time anyway. The GoPro 12 lives on my handlebar, and sometimes on a windshield mount.
Canon is probably the last company I would put my hopes in with regard of doing that. Maybe something from Insta360 with 2x Ace Pro 48 MP sensors could get close. Insta360 makes commercial 360 cameras that surpass Action 4 image quality, but it is impossible to do them with portable enough form factor at current stage of technology.
Nice video but makes me sad why not include the insta360 go 3 on this list. This is the most innovative camera release this year. Yeah do not have great image quality like those on this list, but it`s ok image for the size and versatility this camera has. I also got the pocket 3 its an amazing camera in therms of video quality but I use the go 3 most for the fun and easy of use this camera has.
To be honest, I can't say that I am fan of that concept, it doesn't work for me personally, so I generally don't feature wearable cameras in my videos.
@@TheHybridShooter this camera is not only wearable it also do this and more. I totally understand that this camera don’t fit your needs but for some people video quality is more important than anything (pixel peepers), but for some people they just need a fun camera to use and capture their moments with their family, and the go 3 came with lots of accessory in the box to do that, and it’s magnetic and you can wirelessly monitor your footage. I know this camera lacks in video quality when you compare with other cameras, but revolutionize the form factor and usage of an action camera.
@@rafael.gazoni I understand all of that, I have Go 2, but I don’t use it at all. It is not about the image quality, the whole concept is just not a good fit for my usage and style. It is not appealing to me in any way. I wouldn’t even be able to test wearable cameras properly, so I don’t feature them on this channel.
@TheHybridShooter interesting. I love my go2 because all what is discussed above by others. @TheHybridShooter, please, could you tell me what is in action 2 that is not in go2/3 that makes you use the former but not the latter? I considered Action 2 in the past as a go2 upgraded to 4k. Thanks in advance and thanks for your work
I have the DJI Action 2, please strike that off your list lol What a horrible device, this camera should have never been classified as an action cam. It's too bad, a great design, takes good video but totally unusable in an action environment.
It is classified as a wearable camera and it is probably the best one available, if you need something for "action environment" just buy a more conventional action camera...
@@TheHybridShooter that's not accurate, DJIs website classified this as an 'action' camera because it's waterproof and drop proof. They neglect to mention if you want to use the 2nd module, it's no longer an action camera because that part is not drop proof nor waterproof. That said, even as a 'wearable' camera this camera has serious heat issues even in the magnetic case that was supposed to counter that. I had this on a tripod indoors in a cool environment doing a vlog, the camera over heated and shut off about 25 minutes in shooting 4K, 30fps and with stab off NOT in an action environment. It's actually worse than a GoPro which says a lot lol don't get me wrong, I love DJI, I have their action osmo camera and it's never had one issue and I have their drones, this was imo a flop for DJI, live and learn I guess lol
@damench22 You can't have everything at the same time. It would be a technological miracle if there were no compromises associated with that form factor. I am able to get unlimited 4K 25p recording with mine, as you can see here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cDaYpgScSuM.htmlsi=dk3apSG5SekiEEKM&t=576 I have tested in up to 90 minutes of 4K 25p. Considering how tiny it is and that it has pretty large sensor, 25 minutes would still be impressive. Therefore, I have to deny your request, Action 2 will definitely stay on the list.
The Action 2 magnetic mount vibrates like crazy mounted on a bicycle. It's more of a lifestyle device, not for action, only when I want to remain inconspicuous or ultra pocketable. I use it without the lower battery section, mostly as a wearable device, or on a very small stick. Those shots are not going to win any awards for composition, just for documenting certain life moments to be shared with family.
@@cppguy16 That only happens with early magnetic mounts. New version of the mount has rubber padding which completely fixes that issue and makes it perfectly usable for action.
