I've always read that the Moccamaster is the best brewer, but can soneone please tell me exactly why? I don't think that you can dial in an exact water temperature, and it doesn't have pre-infusion (bloom time) capabilities. These would seem to be extremely important benefits. I get the quality factor, the 5-year guarantee is solid. But beyond that (and maybe the coolness factor), exactly what (objectively) makes it the best coffee maker. No "it just makes better-tasting coffee" arguments please. I'm truly interested in finding out what I'm missing. Thanks.
It's all reputation. Moccamaster was pretty much the first mainstream drip coffee maker to meet SCA and European Gold Cup Standards and owned the space for a lot of years. But other manufacturers have since made coffee machines that meet these criteria and then some. It's a very traditional machine that is uber reliable and hasn't changed much since the 70's. It's still makes great coffee but there's a lot more options available these days.
