wtf is this video? the title says "best settings guide", however in the video you say that you can do this or that and nothing concrete, like bro I can play around myself and check things out.
Well everyone else has found it useful. The best and optimal settings depends on your uses so that’s why there’s a couple of options (like user mode or sRGB) but overall there’s guidance on what you should configure
Was thinking of getting monitor. I’m currently using the BenQ Ex2780q which is a 1440p IPS monitor. Is there any need for me to switch to this oled? Xbox series x player if that helps. I’ve read this monitor will accept a 4K signal and downscale to 1440 which may look a little sharper?
How is the HDR quality in this monitor? is it as good as TV OLED such as LG C3 for example? Especially with the poor support of window11 HDR calibration app.
Okay thanks! One more question, my MAG version didn't come with a display port cable for some reason, can you let me know what type I would need in order to support 360hz 1440p? I have a display cable from my alienware 2518H 240hz monitor but Im not sure if that cable will be enough to support my new monitor. @@tftcentral
@GGrenades yes for some reason none of their screens come with a displayport cable. I’m pretty sure the cable you have will be sufficient as that should be a standard Displayport 1.4 cable , and that’s all you need really.
See here although the point about user updatable firmware no longer applies as MSI have now added support for that on the MAG model too tftcentral.co.uk/news/differences-between-the-msi-mpg-271qrx-and-mag-271qpx-explained tftcentral.co.uk/articles/msi-bring-firmware-update-support-to-the-mag-series-27-and-32-qd-oled-monitors
Just ordered this after returning the Alienware version due to scratches from the packaging. Got the 27gs95qe but coming from a ultrawide qd oled I can't stand the coating. Hopefully the MSI finally satisfies me. This is getting quite frustrating.
@@ChristianPhone-sz2ty had a dead pixel so returned it and bought another Alienware then returned that because it was scratched worse than the first one then ordered another MSI and it's been great so far. No dead pixels, no scratches and a bios update just fixed all the issues like white line flickering.
Got this monitor the other day but I feel like there's a warmness or like a slight orange tint when I use colour temps you have. Had to drop R down to 84 and G down to 86 to get rid of it. Not sure if thats maybe just me or something, thanks for the guides though!
just purchased this monitor coming from an Asus VG279QM and i must say.. i am floored by how nice this thing is. it has set a new bar for me. make sure to update firmware even if you have a MAG.
Received this monitor two days ago and I'm loving it other than for a dead pixel, so will be replacing it. Can I ask, what wallpaper are you using throughout this video?
@@tftcentral I dont think so actually, i am trying to bright the image with my amd adrenaline software etc but cant get to image that i like.. dw what to do.
@@tftcentral yeah I actually tried, but anything I did i couldn’t get any progress and I followed your videos as well and did the settings you used.. I didn’t get the point of the 38 brightness etc.. and I am using what you said, User on Pro mode and premium color at the second thing… and when I downloaded the app it’s not detected my monitor idk 🤷🏼♂️
Great video - thanks! I've always wondered about something, maybe someone here can help me: how come when I use this (and my older one as well) monitor together with PS5, screen feels so choppy, even when using 60hz. However when using my TV-monitor, the ps5 games doesn't feel choppy at all. Basically - using this monitor with my PS5 feels really bad - but with PC its obviously great. Any ideas? I'm using hdmi 2.1 cable. Thanks!
@jasonrippon2303 we’ve not been told there’d be any update to allow you to turn off DSC. If there was it might allow dual screen but you’d not be able to use the full 4K 240Hz so it seems like a large trade off to me
How often does pixel shift trigger on slow? I'm considering this monitor but I'm really afraid I'll notice and be annoyed by this feature. I hate this about myself, but I can't filter these things out.
I changed it to slow the first time I started the monitor. Forgot about that and never saw anything shifting. But I didn’t look for it. That means, it shouldn’t be distracting.
There’s a few feature differences as covered here, but they’re pretty similar tftcentral.co.uk/news/differences-between-the-msi-mpg-271qrx-and-mag-271qpx-explained
QPX is the 240hz version of it, QRX is the only 360hz model of this. At least that is how it is in here where I live. There is not a single 360hz qpx model, all of them are 240hz unlike the QRX, it is always 360hz and more expensive.
@@driptic Thanks for answering! Someone told me that once but I didn't know if it was true! Then could this be the best oled monitor? Better than the asus pg27aqdm? I don't know which one of them I should choose. Due to their price i don't want to fail!
thx for your great content. could you please consider testing input lag/latency between the different game modes and HDR to SDR? Im trying out this MSI monitor against the AW 360hz oled for competitive gaming and i could swear that always only FPS game mode has the true low input lag. kind of makes no sense but time and again while switching modes i get the same impression...
Please assist me!🚨I am using the same monitor, but the image does not fully occupy the screen. I am not referring to the portions intentionally left dark due to the design. There is a space remaining on the side of the panel. How can I make the display fully occupy the screen? I have recently purchased it and am uncertain about what to do. I am using it at a 2K resolution.
Those will likely be the spaces over provisioned to accommodate the pixel shift function or just the black panel border too. I assume you can see the edges of your image and windows desktop etc fine?
@@tftcentral Yes, there is no missing image or malfunction in my monitor; it's just unsettling that even a small portion of my screen is unusable. Is this issue unique to me, meaning there is a problem with my product, or is it something that occurs for everyone?
@@tftcentral Actually, I've just realized that when I move my mouse to the left on the desktop, I can see it reaching the boundary, but when I move it to the right, the cursor disappears from view on the right side of the desktop.
I really don't get these low brightness settings people set. Even in a reasonably dim room with no direct light hitting the screen 38 or even 68 is just way to low for me on 271QRX. What gives ?
@retrosimon9843 ok good. What about your graphics card or windows settings, have you got something turned down? By all means set it at a higher brightness if you’re used to a brighter screen though
If the game supports HDR and you want to use it then you’d need to enable HDR in windows when you play it, which will switch the screen in to its HDR mode. That’s fine
Does anyone know if MSI forces you to have the same display settings for each input source, or if there is a way to save custom display settings for each input?
I just bought this, I want to set a custom resolution through the nividia app but the option is greyed out. Does anyone know how to create custom resolution for this monitor? Or MSI simply decided to not give us that option yet?
That’s for 120 nits but set it higher if you prefer a brighter screen or are using it in a brighter room. It won’t impact other aspects of the calibration
Is there a way to uninstall the firmware update 0.10 it’s downgraded it to 1440p 60hz can’t even change the option off fps in advanced graphics hdr isn’t even on as it’s not recognised
@@tftcentral I have display port connected I have tried to redownload it but it isn’t recognised I am using the usb b port that I got from msi my monitor is really weird that it isn’t recognised via the gi but it loads up via display port when i boot it up I have opened a ticket with msi see what they say hopefully I get a new monitor as this one is defective after I updated

Same panel but could be different still. Some of the general settings should be the same like OLED care etc. you could try them all out and see how it looks
Hi everyone! One question, when I switch between the two hdr modes I don't see almost any difference ( and I should because the difference between 400 and 1000 nits is huge ). Perhaps there is something wrong in the panel? Thanks in advance!
The increased luminance for peak 1000 only really applies to highlights in very dark scenes. Actually often the true black 400 mode can end up looking brighter! Explored and explained here tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-oled-monitors
@@tftcentral Thanks! Now the only thing left to know for me is the energy consumption at TrueBlack 400 because many reviewers said that it consumes a lot but I think it should be less than the hdr1000.
I got. a new one yesterday, and for whatever reason on the right side there is a black Vertical bar. It Looks Like the Displayed Screen is closer to the left than the Right Monitor edges
@@tftcentral yup checked, and thats it! But i just found 2 other issues i have been having with this monitor. One of them is that my game runs at a lower rez than native, even tho the ingame settings tell me my rez is 2560x1440p. Switching to Fullscreen window my Native rez gets displayed, but well, that is using fullscreen windowed wich runs awful
Hey the brightness option is greyed out , it only enabled when i disable *DSC* but then i cant put monitor on 360 hz it maxes out to 240 when its disabled but brightness and other options are then enabled.. wtf is this..
I've been using a dell premiercolor 100%adobe rgb 27 2k monitor for photography and video work (80/20%). Last year I bought 2 LG c1 Oleds for my home and now I'm considering an oled to replace my Dell... Will it have a accurate color reproduction on an oled or should I stay with ips and get the more recent ips black dell 4k 32?
You can certainly get very good colour accuracy and performance. For Adobe RGB work I’d recommend a QDOLED panel as opposed to WOLED as their colour gamut can cover more of that space. The new MSI models, like the one in this video, even have a useful and decent Adobe RGB clamp mode in case you don’t have a calibration device to profile the screen yourself. Keep in mind that OLED isn’t ideal for lots of static content though due to the risk of image retention
@tftcentral I've been using calibration tools for years, the first one i had was the eye one display, right now I have the spider x elite, will it work fine on oleds? Regarding the image retention, I don't think it will be an issue cause it's going to be used mostly in sdr at a max of 120cd/m² in a controlled light environment... Before Oled, I had a Panasonic plasma for about 10 years, when I bought it, the concern with burn in was also a problem to everyone and I remember that i even run a video changing colors to break in linke a car engine 😂 I only had a slight burn from the kids channel logo, but nothing very noticeable... My only concern is the color accuracy... Thank you for your time! Have a nice weekend! 👍
Great video, I recently purchased this monitor and today I noticed the MSI logo on the back has no lights its just black was wondering if theres a setting for it i missed? Thanks
I’m never a fan of the gaming presets they generally just over exaggerate colour saturation and sharpness. Try them and see what you prefer though. It won’t impact response times, lag or anything anyway
Great, the best settings for this monitor. I'm expecting my second unit this Monday and I hope it doesn't have the vertical lines when moving the camera in dark areas that I detected in the previous one because otherwise it was great. I was considering buying the 500hz msi ips miniled or the xiaomi miniled when they went on sale but seeing that miniled still has problems and its price will only be about 300 cheaper than this one, I don't think it's worth waiting any longer.
Hi, bit late but did you're second monitor not have this issue?, because i am having this issue with mine and you are the first one that had this issue aswell.
@@osmanjustinvangeemert8959 No problem, but no, the problem only occurs on QD OLED panels, whether they are old or new. It's something you have to live with, but I've played several games and it's not that bad, although of course I wish it weren't there, but the woleds are worse in almost everything else.
@@FJAD94 Appreciate the quick response! :D Maybe its me but i think its crazy i only saw you talk about this issue. I was certain i had a bad batch. Its really hard to ignore the lines but so far it has been really bad in elden ring and pretty bad in cyberpunk. I guess ill just deal with it, but do you by any chance got any tips to reduce or help this issue? ;)
@@osmanjustinvangeemert8959 You don't have a bad batch, I've talked to some people on reddit who have this problem on both new and older qd oled panels and the only way I noticed it went away is by increasing the gamma brightness in-game (I noticed it in alan wake 2) but of course the black is not as black anymore, just like activating hdr might have the same effect and help make it less noticeable. I personally noticed it a lot in Alan Wake 2 and that's where I discovered it, in Cyberpunk 2077 it also bothered me a little sometimes but I learned not to pay attention to it and in general everything looked very good, however in Hellblade 1 and 2 I barely noticed it and now playing The Last of Us I haven't noticed it at all, it's also true that I try not to look for it but I see it even if I don't look for it and in these cases it wasn't that annoying although I'm not in favor of this defect on a 1k euro monitor, today it's the best above woled with the best color, texts, etc.
No. Those gaming modes are just alternative preset modes and it would over ride the user mode. Just stick with the user mode and leave gaming modes alone
@terban84dich37 it shouldn’t impact brightness in any meaningful way although the user mode can get a bit brighter if you max out the brightness setting. The main difference would be the colour gamut and vividness of the colours. Maybe also experiment with the shadow boost setting for dark game content
Got this monitor yesterday but i can't select 360hz in 1440p Used the hdmi cable came with the monitor and also a dp cable. However i see the option to select 360hz in 1080p? Dsc is enabled+ plus downloaded and installed the latest firmware. What could be the problem? Do i need a fresh nvidia driver install?
I finally got mine and it randomly black screens only when set to 240hz. Ive tried everything to solve it but cant figure it out. Has anyone else experienced this with this monitor?
Im using a 7900XTX over DP cable. My ROG monitor i replaced with this one works totally fine at 240hz. Ive tried new cables, etc. All the obvious stuff. Still does it. Not sure if I got a lemon or not.
@chads9956 certainly very odd. Can’t think of any reason for that. Some things to try in case you haven’t already. Try HDMI instead. Maybe drop to 8-bit colour depth from 10-bit. Disable adaptive sync on monitor. Try it on another GPU /system if you can
So i tried every color setting that was available to change. 10 bit, 8bit, etc. Still no luck. I havent tried another gpu yet as I only have one pc. But my strix monitor works just fine at 240hz so Im out of ideas at the moment 🤷♂️
@SycoraxStyx there’s a setting in the OSD menu for it if you’re on the latest firmware are you? Are you using HDMI as well? If so, moving to DP would probably solve it too
When you say “running HDR”, can you clarify? Are you leaving the windows HDR mode on all the time, and then the image looks too dark unless you then view HDR content too?
@liamjr92 this is really tricky to answer as could be down to a whole load of configuration possibilities. It shouldn’t look dark unless you’re in a very bright room. Obv make sure brightness control is turned up. If you’re using the customisation colour temp option make sure you bump the RGB channels up to those recommended here. Check graphics card controls aren’t turned down for brightness perhaps
@@tftcentral using settings from your video custom 96 red 98 grey 100 blue in standard sdr games just don’t look bright in without hdr does display hdr only matter when you are running hdr
since we now have rtx hdr in all games i have tested. then sdr mode is now dead. how do we now optimize the hdr mode to now work as good as it can in various content?
Keep in mind if the game is only mastered in SDR, it’s going to be “faking” HDR for those titles. We wouldn’t recommend running the screen in HDR mode all the time though, especially away from games etc and in windows desktop. See our article linked in description about the TB400 and P1000 modes, as you’re probably going to find they can both look brighter depending on the games true HDR capability and peak brightness performance. Making it a bit complicated to choose a single HDR mode I’m afraid
@@tftcentral i guess that the severity of the problem is monitor dependant, my older version of oled looks like an normal ips in hdr mode displaying sdr and desktop. and the rtx hdr is way beyond sdr in quality, only a proper hdr implemented game is better. i am just worried that the next qd-oled i am planning is going to mess up sdr, since now i need the hdr mode most of the time.
@@tftcentral Hello, is it normal on this monitor that after turning on HDR on the desktop or browser there is no difference compared to SDR? I can see the difference immediately on the LG c1.
@krzys0302 there shouldn’t be any difference when viewing SDR applications and the desktop within HDR mode, so it’s the MSI that’s behaving properly here 😀 but we would recommend only enabling HDR mode when you’re going to view actual HDR content
@@tftcentral i tried to connect it with hdmi and it runs normally, but screen going randomly black for couple of seconds when gaming or doing other stuff
@coldy8848 ok. I’ve seen people talk about that online with some monitors where you can’t see the post screen and BIOS on some monitors / pc combinations. I’ve never looked in to what causes it as I’ve never had the problem myself but have a look around. It’s def not exclusive to this monitor 😀
@tomrosewood1776 yeah actually it doesn’t do anything on the MAG341CQP we are currently reviewing (same menu software). Maybe it works in specific modes or something, but I’ve not identified it! Weird
@tftcentral @tomrosewood1776 MSI has a Utility for their monitors where you can customize what that button does when pressed. There are quite a few options such as Input Source, Picture Profile Switch, KVM, PIP, KVM, etc. You can download the utility from your monitor's MSI support page
Great review! I’ve been using MSI MPG 271QRX for 3 weeks now, and while it has some solid features, I’ve been really disappointed with a few things. One major issue is the black screen delay when alt-tabbing during fullscreen games, which lasts for 2-3 seconds. Disabling DSC solves it but drops the refresh rate to 240hz, which defeats the purpose of having a higher refresh rate monitor in the first place. Coming from an Asus IPS 360hz panel, I have to say I’m not impressed with the motion clarity on this OLED, especially for fast-paced FPS games like CS and Deadlock. It just doesn’t keep up, and I’m switching back to an IPS/TN panel. Sad to say, I feel like OLED might not be the best route for competitive gaming right now. I have ordered the new Asus 540hz tn panel and will receieve this week.
You can also avoid the alt tabbing issue if you play in full screen windowed mode. Strange that you find the motion clarity inferior, or is that when you’re running at 240Hz on the OLED? Or are you gaming with ULMB / ELMB on your Asus IPS or something?
@@tftcentral I have done this, but it defeats the purpose of having high end monitor. Some games cant play borderless windowed. having to still render a desktop reduces the ingame performance and i dont like it when having to pay 1200 USD for a monitor.
@@tftcentral I will play with ULMB on the new monitor that i have ordered. im using 360hz on the OLED monitor in bordereless windowed. ASUS PG248QP arriving on thursday this week.
@DRIFT9LE fair enough. It’s not a monitor issue by the way, it’s an NVIDIA DSC implementation issue which hopefully they might resolve one day. Any high end monitor is likely to need to use DSC nowadays and will suffer with the same issue
@@tftcentral I also read this on reddit, seems like a bandwidth DSC issue right. But whats really strange is alt tabing from windows to game is no delay. When alt tabing from game to windows has black screen 2-3 seconds
I hope so. Cant wait to get mine. I see you can easily get the MAG version so I have to imagine the MPG isnt far behind. Thanks for the informative video 👍
@@MrDutch1e returned it and the second one have a dead pixel too. Its only the white and green subpixels and its in the top left corner so i am keeping it but im not really happy with the quality control being this bad on such a premium product.
@vwtompa ya I had a samsung g7 before with a dead pixel to but my previous MSI 240hz ips had a dead pixel and the 1st 271qrx I got. So I'm 2 for 3 now on dead pixels. Hopefully mine stays good 🤞
