Would you consider making a video about how to alter your normal skin care routine before and after a peel/facial/procedure? I would love to add more professional treatment, but I have been told to stop retinol, dermablading and acids 2 weeks before and after procedure. That seems like it’s counter productive to stop all of my actives for so long.

Great video, Susan, and Naturium really does have an excellent arsenal for treating hyperpigmentation. I've been seeing good results using the Mela B3 serum from La Roche-Posay but would love to see you do a deep dive on Eucerin and their patented ingredient thiamidol which has been getting a lot of buzz in addressing melasma and dark spots.

The thing is tretinoin do not erase sun spots or any kind of brown spots. It may fade them a very tiny bit after 3 years of using it constantly but it won't do any miracles. Another youtuber (sincerely miss ash ) who uses tretinoin (prescription) since over 4 years answered this to someone in the comments who asked if it made a difference with her sun spots. I don't say there's no ingredients that don't work but don't count too much on them to make them disappear, it will only fade them a bit. Professional help (lasers/chemical peels) is best to see results with maintenance and sun protection instead of spending $$$ on products claiming those amazing results but end up making you exhausted mentally to not see any differences after 6 months.

@kimgroslouis5587 Definitely still need to spend $$ on skincare even if you are getting in-office treatments. Getting professional treatments is like going to see a trainer at the gym. At home skincare is your diet (what you do daily). You can go see the trainer (get your lasers, chemical peels, etc.) once a month but if you are only eating junk food at home (not using your at home skincare) you aren't going to see the results you want.

I agree about Retin A. It helps with texture but does nothing for melasma. I actually think Remedy dark spot serum has been the best topical I've used over the years. It's not going to wipe out dark spots; however, I feel that my skin tone and texture have improved. Just my experience.

Whenever I hear that most people that have melasma. Are people with darker skin, I smile. I am PALE white Irish / English girl skin from Kansas with PCOS. My patches of melasma used to look like a smear of dirt on my lower cheeks. Hormones play a huge part of this. I use clear spf 50 pa ++++ sunscreen and Tinted sunscreen daily and use the tinted 3 times a day. Prescription Tretinoin and getting ready to use prescription hydroquinone for 8-10 weeks. Using over the counter products has not been successful for me. I can’t wait to try your new tinted sunscreen!!!

Do you know of one that helps with post laser burns? I was burned at the med spa by a yag laser and left with a lot of burn marks all over my legs. They have not gone away six months later and I am so sad about it. It was supposed to help spider veins and did not even do that.

I’m 48 and have been using Tretinoin since Oct 2023, my dr said it will help with sun spots but it’s brought more to the surface. I’m on my first bottle of Naturium Arbutin $39.95 and Naturium Tranexamic acid $39.95. I reapply tinted sunscreen daily. I’m wondering how long arbutin n Tranexamic acid takes to work? We can’t get Hydroquinone in Australia. I use Mandelic/lactic acid one night a week when I’m not using Tretinoin. I use Timeless Vit C serum. Paula’s choice ultra light antioxidant serum.

Hello Suzan. Most actives ingredients like rétinol and AHA can cause sun sensivity. Even if I apply sunscreen every single day in the morning and don't go outside before 15:00, I found that my dark spots get worst. If IT better to stop fighting it (stop using sun sensivity ingredients) and just hope for improvement over time? Or proceed in cure during forth month in winter?
@angiesplaylist23

If you're prone to hyperpigmentation then try tinted sunscreens because if you're prone to hyperpigmentation then visible light also darkens spots not just uv light. Also if you go in the sun so long after applying sunscreen then reapply before going outside

I dealt with melasma for years. I think that I got melasma after taking some fungal medication + anti biotics + hormone imbalance. MIne were exactly where you have yours but it was so dark that even dermablend make up could barely cover it. It seriously looked like someone had punched me on my face and left me bruised. I tried everything to get rid of it, lasers (only made it worse), glycolic acid (made it worse), regular exfoliating (only helped with skin texture). Untill I finally came about COSMELAN by MESOESTETIC. I did only one COSMELAN peel and voilá!! I could not believe the results, After 1 month, not only it got rid of my melasma, but also eliminated all the tiny sun spots. It gave me a completely new skin, a fresh start with glorious, pristine skin, like the one that I had as a child. COSMELAN is milder than other peels and it was the only thing that got rid of the melasma that I had for over 8 years. Now I do a maintenance COSMELAN peel every year in winter, not as intense as the first one, and I use their 130 sun protection tinted cream which gives me that Korean look glossy skin. I cannot praise this product enough. You should really try it, it will completely transform your sking. Maybe do a video on your journey while using it!

@kellyc3897
@kellyc3897 3 месяца назад
You typically want to keep your exfoliation and retinoid nights separate. Very robust skin types may combine them on some occasions. You would cleanse, exfoliate (or use a retinoid), then a tyrosinase inhibiting treatment (this can come before your retinoid depending on consistency) and finish with moisturizing. If you have a serum that combines all these steps you can just apply it after cleansing and be done. In terms of formulations, serums before creams/lighter before thicker consistencies so you adjust your application order to suit the products you have.

From Shereen idriss (derm) and Susan: it's more about consistency than percentage. Start low and go slow. Always safe to start low, but whatever percentage you can get to the point that you can use every night is the one for you

I am happy she didn’t include the naturium product with Kojic acid and tranexamic acid because the formulation is terrible. It has a poop like color and it stains the face and everything that touches it. But I do the the Azelaic acid emulsion! I react badly to niacinamide at high doses and I asked the company what percent is in the product and they would no disclose that. I risked it and I had no issue with that product.

If your skin isn’t sensitive and is hardy enough it is highly effective in the same routine. I use Paula’s Choice mandelic acid & lactic acid solution at night before I apply my tret or my retinal. I like to put a soothing emulsion in between like Niods modulating glucocides or the Ordinary barrier serum. Then top off after my retinoid with a ceramide rich moisturizer.

Great video Susan! Hope you’re enjoying your family vacation. I learn so much from watching your skin care videos. I’m wondering what product you use that you mentioned in the video that has glycolic acid and lactic acid? I use tretenoin at night and The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid in the morning (and yes I’m very diligent with wearing sunscreen every day). I just wonder if there’s a better glycolic acid product out there that’s also not going to scare my wallet! 😂 Thank you! ❤

Since introducing regular retinoid use, I have found that every time I try to use an AHA serum (10% lactic acid specifically), I suffer a chemical burn, my skin becomes horribly textured for days as it micro-scabs, and then it peels off around a week later after I quit all my actives and baby my skin 😐 this has happened at least 3 separate times this year with two different lactic acid serums that previously worked really well for me.
