So glad you touched on the fact that melasma is a chronic condition with no cure. So many times patients expect that they will treat melasma and it will go away forever when in fact it’s something that will ebb and flow throughout life. BUT it can be effectively managed!
Naturium's Azeliac acid Emulsion significantly faded my melasma. Which was a huge surprise I was using it for maskne wich it also helped with. I started using Naturiums tranexmic acid but I have not been consistent with it which I work harder on. I think it has helped but my melasma is really light after staying consistent with azeliac acid Emulsion so I might be at my limits with topicals helping. Thankfully my melasma was pretty light compared to others from the beginning.
I really liked the tranexamic acid too, but I found that the mulitibright emulsion worked even better because it had a TON of things that helped my hyper pigmentation! Now, I alternate and I’ve seen pretty good results!
It happens when your in peri menopause as well. It happened to my mom and sisters during this stage of their life and it’s happening to me know. Trying to figure out how to manage at the moment. Thanks for the advice
I have/had two huge hyperpigmentation spots on both my cheeks. The things that have significantly lightened my hyperpigmentation are The Ordinary lactic acid, The Ordinary salicylic acid, Good Molecules glycolic acid toner, Tretinoin, and sunscreen in the mornings. I use these mornings and nights. Sure it may seem harsh for some people, but if you don’t have sensitive skin, this regimen DOES work, and quite quickly, to reduce hyperpigmentation.
Hi Nicole, your comment is so helpful. That would be so great if you post your Day time and night time routine here that you been using. It can help me and people like me. Thank you🙂
Having an asian skin with a lot of melanin have been bittersweet for me. It's nice because it protected my skin from aging during my younger years when I was tanning a lot (before I started sunscreen) but on the other hand, now I am stuck with very bad hyperpigmentation...
I have melasma only on my upper lip it’s so ugly looks like a mustache 😑 I’ve found sunscreen, retinol, and eating less sugar helps fade it significantly
PSA for folks who take melatonin or 5 HTP. I was taking them daily thinking I would be ok since they're natural. I started getting melasma and tried everything to get rid of it. It took me a while to make the connection but realised I started getting melasma after I started taking them. It was only after I stopped taking them that my melasma faded. It's almost completely gone now.
Thanks for sharing your skincare and your melasma journey. Susan! do you use Red Light Therapy at home? Not sure if it trigger Hyperpigmentation. Take care,
I think Cysteamine Cream also deserves a mention. That has helped keep my melasma from worsening. Especially when I’m taking a break from hydroquinone.
thanks so much i loved this video.. heard some procedures make melasma worst.. RF? i developed upper lip melasma patches after a treatment and i was freaking out... took a long time to reverse it...
I have hyperpigmentation from Hidradenitis Suppurativa. The dermatologist was awful and the acne meds they try sometimes upset my stomach. I started using acne wash in my HS areas an it’s mostly clear but now the spots 😞 So thank you for the help 😊
There's this Indian store online that provides different kinds of treatments for melasma and hyperpigmentation such as retin a, azaleic acid and hydroquinone.. I've been using 15% azelaic for probably about 6 months but I haven't seen much results.. and I was worried about using hydroquinone over 2% because I heard that it can actually make it worse especially if you stop using it. And mine is right above my lip which is really embarrassing I look like I have a mustache. So I kind of feel stuck on what to do since I can't afford an office treatment and as I'm in canada, our visits to dermatologist is covered by insurance but they won't prescribe me anything so I have to go through online services but I don't know if I can afford to use the dermatologist online or if it's even available in Canada. 😩😩😩😩
I think you’re suppose to stop using hydroquinone occasionally or else you get the rebound hyperpigmentation which makes it worse. I think I’ve heard that people get the best results using a variety of ingredients ( if your skin can handle it) to treat the hyperpigmentation. I find it easiest to use 1 product with a bunch of these ingredients as opposed a bunch of individual serums . Edit: I’m pretty sure Canada has an equivalent option. I think it’s called Felix health or something similar
Watched your videos from a year or two ago and it really did get better - congrats!! Do you think it's realistically possible to get similar results (or close to it) without a medicine cabinet full of expensive products? Would love to get to where you've gotten but I can't afford an expensive routine :/ Should I even try?
it's interesting that u said micro needling made your melasma worst. I felt the same, when I asked my dermatologist she doesn't seem tp think micro needling would
Love Apostrophe! Because of the lower dosage of tretinoin at .018% they prescribed me, I have finally been able to keep my acne at bay for the first time in my life. This prescription also includes clindamycin. Not sure if this is an ingredient you can stay on for prolonged periods of time? Wondering if eventually I'll have to ask to have this removed from my prescription?
very informative video. Thriveco radiance serum worked really well. It is a combination of 4 different acids that helps in making your skin glow and brighter. Also it has vitamin C, tranexamic acid, Azelaic acid, Niacinamide.
Dermatica have a prescription service aswell I have sun spots and I use the prescribed cream my mum uses it as she has Malasma and it helps my sister has had acne since her teenage years and has had bumpy skin recently and dermatica has helped her tremendously overall lookafter your skin and sunscreen is super important please 🙏
You should look into the Revepeel. I, too, have mild melasma. My Dr. recommended this peel. I just had it done three days ago - keeping my fingers crossed!
I have very agressive melasma that develop during the pandemic time out of nowhere.I saw a derm and he gave me sulfur wash, azelaic acid 15% and tretinoin 0. 1% with 4% hydroquinone and everything changed my skin in just a few months. It is a lot better but is true what you said...it doea not go away completly. My derm recommended laser.Should I go ahead with that? Or keep going with the creams??? It is very expensive
Very helpful for those who are dealing with melasma, these days melasma is the biggest concern. Also can you please tell us if wearing daily foundation is safe or harmful
Wearing foundation is not harmful at all, in fact it has iron oxides that provide some visible light protection. So it pairs well with your sunscreen underneath:)
@@ainamarie9954 thank you so much for sharing ❤️❤️ I have been treating my melasma since 2 years but I see no improvement. However, it did not spread, looks like i'll have to deal it for rest of my life.
I have found this so helpful I have been using skin and me prescription skincare and it is amazing. You have helped me through my skin journey especially in the last two years. My skin had a freak out in 2020 even though I was very consistent with my routine but your videos have gave me so much advice that has led me to my skin now and knowing my triggers. Sending you so much love from the UK 🇬🇧
