So,
You have been hearing so much about the 3D printer world and want to get into the action!
But you have no idea yet what makes a 3D printer good, and what doesn't.
Luckily for you I have everything covered, In this video you will know all the basics you need and will be able to quickly make a decision about which 3D printer is going to be best suited for you needs.
whether its SLA or FDM , after watching the video you will know which will be best for you.
To cut things short though,
Your 2 Main Printer Types are FDM and RESIN (SLA)
I will be talking more extensively about SLA printers in this video, however feel free to check the FDM video out if you liked those printers more.
In this video I cover SLA Printers.
Personally I would suggest you go for an FDM printer as a beginner, however you can still get away with using some Resin printers, especially the ones I chose in this video.
As they are better designed for beginners.
And once you pass the learning curve in resin printing, it actually becomes even easier than FDM printing. thats Awesome!
There are many important factors to think about when getting an SLA Printer.
Mainly you need to look at:
If the Printer allows for many Slicers, if It has a good customer service base, Printer speed, Size, And if there are enough users online who can help you out if you get stuck during your Journey.
You're getting excited, aren't you?
What's amazing about the 5 Options I have today, is that they have all of these features, and more.
To top it up, most of the 3D Printer options provided are cheap, making it a great way to test if you are in to 3D Printing or not.
You won't have to lose a few months salary just to find out.
I hope you enjoyed the video.
Good luck with your life and have a nice day!

Some additinal things that were not mentioned in the video or only touched upon slightly: There are water washable resins available for which you do not need IPA to clean them. They have some disavantages of course and are slightly more expensive (very slightly where I am from) but overall for the hobbyist I think they are a great option. Regarding printing speed the example given is correct but this also means the resin printer takes the same time for a print regardles of how much you put on the build plate, only number of layers matter. Therefore if possible you should fill up your print plate as much as possible. If it takes you an hour to print one figure might as well print 5 figures in the same time.

this is the EXACT explanation video that I was looking for. thank you! at my work they have Formlabs printers and I got to work with them a little. I have some years of experience with FDM printing on my Anycubic i3 Mega and Mega X. But I am now intrigued by the resin printing. So I was looking for a video that recommended some budget printers but also showed the necessary precautions and all other stuff that comes with printing resin (like the curing and cleaning, that gets overlooked often)

The "micron" screen resolution was VERY helpful. Thank you. I have always looked at "whatever K" skeptically for TV's. 13" vs 54" tv but both are 4k resolution. The 13" looks good close up while the 54" looks good from across the room.

You can let the resin residue settle in the bottom of the container that you used to clean the prints and then drain the clean alcohol to use it again

Hi. When you mentioned the accuracy I would like to know about the tolerances. I will need the 3D Printer for engineering and I need tight tolerances. Therefore I'm looking more for resin printer. When the 3D Part is hardened will it not shrink? I need 0.1 at least in all axes. thank you for your feedback.
@miguellopez3392
@miguellopez3392 5 месяцев назад
Tolerance is based on multiple environmental factors, but typically resin have a 1-3% linear shrink rate, 5% volumetric shrink rate, high resolution printers can print surfaces as smooth as if they have been sanded with 500 grit sand paper so they're usable for joints with the right resin such as mecha white from saryatech.

I think SLA printers are simpler. I mean the ones that use LCDs or DLPs are basically just that plus a tank with a moving surface. I mean they might be more annoying to use because of the resin and such, but as an object I think FDM printers are probably more complicated.

Is it possible to achieve print resolution of less than 20 microns using the LCD printers? Can DLP printers achieve print resolution less than 20 micron? What about SLA printers? What is the minimum resolution that we can obtain from SLA printers?
@miguellopez3392
@miguellopez3392 5 месяцев назад
You can achieve much smaller resolution but the limits start becoming more about light uniformity ,theoretically the smallest you can print is around half a micron as thats UV lights wave length.

min 13:02 .. the conversion inches cm is completely wrong ... not only 5.6 inch is not 22,7 cm, but how can it be 5.6L 3.5W and conversion is 22.7L 22.7W ?? one is a rectangle in inches and the other one a square in cm... :)

Seriously how can you go less then 2 minutes and get things wrong. Operationally Resin Printers are simpler than FDM and therefore much easier to get up and running and repair. They also tend to occupy the same price points. The ony argument is that dollar for dollar FDM has a larger build volume. The selection of filaments vs resins is way more complicated. Generally Resins have way more chemistries than FDM since at the temperatures hobby FDM printers can reach you are limited to PLA, PETG, TPU, HIPS, PVA. Now you can get it in a wide variety of colors. There are more formulations of resins not to mention you can mix resins to get resins with a mix of properties but they tend to come in limited colors. However since it is a liquid resin you can make whatever color you want buy adding alcohol ink dyes or micah powders etc. Both the vapors from Resin and the fumes from FDM are toxic and should be done in a well ventilated area. But yes you must be much more careful handling uncured resin than Filament. It's sad there is actually a lot of good stuff in this video but getting through that first bit of inaccurate information annoys me.
@Mockthenerd
@Mockthenerd Год назад
To be fair, I just press print on my FDM, come back in 2 hours and hand the PLA toy to my kid. Resin oftentimes needs to go through a whole, less than healthy, cleaning process first that results in toxic waste that can be difficult for the average house hold to deal with. Many modern FDM machines come fully built with auto bed levelling. My less than tech savy parents have a FDM printer where theynjust print things for the house they download online (DIY stuff or spice racks...). I think Resin is perfect for hobbyists while FDM is perfect for all households. In 10 years time I could definitely see every house having a FDM printer but resin will still be specialist machines. Not saying 1 is better than the other but they are different beasts for the average citizen.

The part about resolution at 4:35 is not correct. 4K refers to a pixel density, not the total number of pixels so the size of the screen does not matter, it will have the same precision.
@lukecasey2830
@lukecasey2830 Год назад
No, resolution just gives you the number of total pixels of a screen. 4k monitor just has 3840 pixels horizontally and 2160 pixels vertically (3840 x 2160), for a grand total of 8,294,400 pixels. If we were talking about pixel density you would have to divide by some sort of surface area for example 4000 pixels per cm squared or 4000 pixels/cm^2. So no, resolution doesn't take the size of the screen into account. You are just wrong.
