Claussen is the best hands down! I like a pickle that taste very fresh and more like a cucumber. I also feel you can get a better taste for the garlic and dill, and they’re always super crunchy. I absolutely hate Mt. Olive-they taste old and they’re too soft. I love Vlastic too-different taste than Claussen but still good in its own way and is also what I grew up with. Great value is alright, definitely more of a burger tasting pickle. In my opinion, the lighter the pickle is in color, the better it is. Claussen is really expensive but that’s because they’re the best-top quality. I’d pay 50$ for a jar lol

Our family loves Claussen. They have the best flavor, and they're very crunchy. That's apparently because they're the only brand that doesn't cook their pickles, so you have to find them in the refrigerated section of the store. Definitely worth the extra cost.

Nice taste test! Great Value and Claussen are the only brands you tested with no food dyes, which may cause neurological problems (and are found in the least likely of places), so there's that too. You might give the Great Value Spicy Dill Pickle spears a chance as they taste much more robust than their regular pickles. Take care!

Clausen is the best. It is not cooked so much like the others are. Because it is not cooked, it stays crisp and is sold refrigerated. It is the closest thing to a fresh deli pickle that you can buy in a jar. The spices are different and you can actually see them in the bottom of the jar.

I love Mt Olive the best. I always get that brand. Hate vlasic. It's too sour. I got some big jar of whole pickles from aldi and they so so sour I hate them lol. So was curious in the different brands to see about. I want to try Claussen next

I haven't tried the others but lately I noticed the difference because my brother commented that the Vlasic was sweeter, so then I tried and yep Vlasic is sweeter and doesn't burn your stomach and you can drink the juice easier and the Best Maid is more sour and too strong you can't enjoy the juice etc. like the Vlasic. I should choose Best Maid because it's made in Fort Worth TX and I'm from TX but just being honest. Vlasic is the winner. Can't comment on the other brands because I haven't tried them. But I am now glad I can choose a pickle I can enjoy without stomach burning and also drink the juice.

In the States I like Kosher Dill Claussen Mini Pickles... In Canada I like Moishes Kosher Dill Pickles...

This got me excited for an HD remaster of my favorite retro pickle. 20 year old pickles at the same price.

I grew up a block from a kosher deli where the owner made pickles in huge barrels… in the summer my best friend and I would sweep or help clean… his wife always made us lunch and dessert as well as paid us… it was a great job!!!

Kosher pickles are made with garlic. So really what you decided is you prefer a garlic pickle over a dill pickle. I agree!

I grew up with Mt. Olive, from the spear to the burger chips. Now my favorite pickles are McClure’s spicy pickles. They are hand packed and small batches. They are originally out of Brooklyn NY but have since expanded to Detroit. They go for about $12 a jar but you can get lucky and find them at World Market or TJ Max for about $5.

For people in the Midwest, Hyvee store dill pickles are good. Lot's of crunch and good flavor, especially the sliced hamburger chips.

I buy Claussen pickles because they taste the best and when I've eaten them all I put a couple hard boiled eggs in the jar of brine and put them back in the fridge for 3 days. Makes very good pickled eggs. Try it , you'll see.

I have very strong feelings about pickles. Claussen wins hands down every time (unless going against my grandma's spicy homemade pickles) and I have refused to get anything but Claussen since I was 10 years old. I remember the first time I discovered the sandwich slices and decided to make a sandwich with just bread, mayo, and Claussen sandwich sliced pickles. Still one of my favorite comfort snacks...but only when my husband isn't around because he thinks pickle sandwiches are gross 😂 I also got a recipe for pickle pasta salad from a friend and it specifically lists Claussen pickles...imagine my heartbreak when I go to make it for the first time and it's the height of the Claussen pickle shortage and I had to get some other brand. Nearly ruined the pasta salad! Aside from Claussen's "only chilled" method, which makes their pickles stand out from the rest, I think the garlic and capers really enhance the pickle and give the brine a much better flavor than all the other pickles on the market.

I actually revisited this video (I remember seeing it when it was first released). I recently had to temporarily move to VT from Boston for a month and my favorite pickles - Grillo's - are not sold up here apparently. You saved me buying a ton of different pickles and trying them all myself, looks like I'll be going the Claussen route. Also I too grew up with Vlasic and haven't cared for them in years. Thanks John Hancock!

Taste is relevant esp when we all taste things slightly differently. With this, tho, we must share the same taste buds. Aside from the Kroger I’ve had the rest and agree 100%. Dunno why, guess it’s a southern thing, but I typically buy Mt Olive which are underwhelming but ok esp when joining a lot of other condiments on a sandwich. Claussen doesn’t make dill chips I don’t believe, just spears? Here’s a very economical thing to do that can cut the price of dill chips in half or even more: get whole pickles in your favorite brand and take 60 seconds and feed them thru your food processor’s wide slicer blade. The in-store per-ounce difference between whole and sliced dill chips in the same brand is absolutely ridiculous. The bigger the jar, usually the lowest per-ounce price to boot. Great review John!

I never tried Claussen because of its shade of green. It’s lack of color. For some reason, I associated that with assuming it would taste weird. Maybe I should try it.

You’ve go to try McClure’s Pickles if you want a treat. Kroger sells them in by the olive bars and specialty cheese! They’re my favorite splurge purchase.

You should try Aldi's pickles. They have really good pickles.

I grew up loving Mt. Olive, I then switched over to Vlasic, with Claussen becoming my favorite. I have recently found a possible new favorite, "The Pickle Guys". They're a New York based company, so you have to have them delivered and they are delicious. They also pickle all kinds of food.

Claussen is my choice. Love them!

Here is a trick about pickles, especially at Walmart. There is usually a bulk purchase area in every Walmart and they sell really big jars of name brand pickles for about twice the price of a normal jar, but you get three or four times as much. The trick is these big jars are not with all the other pickles in the pickle aisle. You have to find the bulk area.

Love Claussen ! The Kroger brand in the fridge case are really good too.

If you have a grocery outlet near you, try out their pickle selection. It varies widely because of the chains concept, but they have some great brands occasionally like Heifetz. They remind me a lot of the dutch jewish pickles I grew up on. They are also incredibly cheap. Cheap enough to just try out and make a gamble. I have a tough time getting used to American pickles.

Claussen is an uncooked pickle while the rest are cooked. Not a fair competition if you favor uncooked pickles. I personally couldn't choke down a Claussen if my life depended on it. Would have loved to see BG Kosher Dills in the roundup instead.
