Dee actually told this story on stage when Twisted Sister performed here in Sweden last year. but at first people misunderstood him a bit and started to FU the handicap section.. Dee goes: "no no" and told the rest of the story for the audience.. at last he turned the spotlight on the handicap section and said "thank you for coming to the show" and hold up his thumb. I was one of the peeps in that section! It felt a bit wtf at first but everything turned out to be quite fun! Dee's a funny guy!:)
How can anyone NOT like this guy? I think he is a great role model as a faithful and loving husband, a wonderful father and a good, decent man all around. Watch his reality show ... you will LOVE it.
Yep! It's called Rock and Roll so if you can't stand up and rock and you sit in your wheelchair and Roll! I love the fact that they were there! Don't stop the party for NOTHING my friends! Great story!
@heavymetalcripple Good for you, my friend. It's a wonderful thing when people, no matter who they are or what their situation is, can laugh at things that are funny, and Dee's story is drop-dead hilarious!
The beauty of the story is you see the light from the train at the end of the tunnel right at the beginning. But, you helpless rush toward the end like you're in a bad nightmare. As soon as I saw the light, I started giggling and snickering just like the cartoon charters, Muttley or Mumbly, whichever, all the way to the punchline. Tears welled up at the corners of my eyes. Idiot. he he. Search for Dee Snider's speech at a Congress hearing and give it a listen. Awesome. He didn't take it. No, he gave it right back to the Authorities just like in the song. Here in this story, he dumps on himself and show humility. Watch his speech, and you'll see his courage and conviction.
It's the Canadian show "The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos" many famous people are interviewed on the show and that is one of the segments, "Best Story Ever!"
Thanks to Dee for the story. Rock on, brother! You should do a music video of you depicting you doing the song, "We're Not Going to Take It" with a crowd of handicapped people behind you singing the chorus, then when the song ends, they throw their crutches, walkers and wheelchairs at you. That would be hilarious.
this happened @ church, but not exactly the same. we were standing up for the national anthem and some people wouldn't get up. and they weren't handicapped btw. they just hated bush (it was around 911)
I saw the ending coming too. When he did that, and then he found out what was going on, do you think he felt lower than whale dung on the bottom of the ocean?
I think I was at that show, Dec 1984 St Louis. They were opening up for Maiden. The handicaps were flipping him off lol Least their middle fingers worked!
Haha I knew that's what it would be. Same thing happened when I saw Motley Crue; everyone who wasn't standing were singled out but some were wheelchair-bound.
@KarmicOmen Yep I agree. He's been married to the same woman since 1981. That's rare not just in the rock business, or even the *music* business, but in SHOW business!!! :)
