I'm a professional lawn care business owner and I simply can'r understand why would anybody not install/remove the guard on a grass trimmer. OK, I get it, you want a longer line. Let's put aside the fact that you're basically killing the engine/motor by doing that. But there one more reason to have your guard on and it's the blade attached to the guard that cuts your lines to a same length. I've tried using my Husky trimmer without a guard and after few minutes one line got shorter than the other and this resulted in uneven lengths of the lines. And the result of that was a massive vibrations. Definitely not a pleasant experience. I've put the guard back on and never thought about removing it again. It's a stupid move.
@stultuses
@stultuses 2 года назад
Good point, especially since it's the tip of the line doing the cutting I often have to go down the bush near where I life, having that extra few inches can make the difference in terms of reach though What I do wish, is that the shaft could be disconnected in half so I could throw it in the boot of my car

I've been big on 2-stroke for years & years.. I picked up this Makita & my God is that thing wicked. Cool to know without the guard for longer string. I only run mine on medium at the highest on high you could cut down some big ass weeds but you're throwing shit all over the place lol medium is about right probably as fast as my 2-stroke goes & it's 🆒 the way they designed it, it ramps up similar to ⛽ imo

Makita claims that this trimmer has a power eqivalent to a 25 cc gas powered trimmer. I know it's hard to judge from a video, but my impression is that this Makita has nowhere near the explosive power of my 25cc 1Kw Husky i usually use.. I guess the battery powered grass trimmer is simply not there yet, at least for a commercial grade usage. Edit....I've recently bought the Makita battery trimmer and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Mind you it's not the model shown in this video but the DUR369LZ. This trimmer has a motor inside a housing near the batteries. Makita rates it at 1KW which is the same power from the Husqvarna 525 I've been using for years. And I have to admit that the power is very similar. The only downside of Makita is the weight. With a pair of 5Ah batteries Makita weighs 6,4 Kg vs Husqvarna's 4,9 Kg. Now the pros and cons... Cons are the following. Obviously the weight and the run time. But with buying more ans more of the 5Ah batteries I'm getting less and less concerned with the run time since one pair is usually enough for a single, sometimes even 2 yards I maintain. I usually take 4-6 batteries with me and that's enough for the day, especially during these hot days when we're putting 5-6 hours at most... Pros are also well known.. Noise, or the lack of it.. Given that throughout the summer we start our mowing at 6:30 AM, I rarely have people yelling at me from a window to "get the f*** out of there cause they want to sleep".. But since I still own a gas powered Honda mower, the benefit of Makita trimmer noise reduction is not as large as it should be. Second is the lack of fumes, oil/gas mix, spark plugs, etc... You just press and go... As far as mowers go I was considering Makita but ultimately all the reviews shown the lack of power compared to gas mowers. And given that my customers are on a 3 week to a once a month contract, I simply can't maintain those lawns with the Makita mower.. Just recently Milwaukee has came out with their own commercial grade battery mower and the first impressions are great. It's much more powerful than Makita but it has some other downsides. First, it's a 1000$ mower. And second, I don't own a single Milwaukee power tool and therefore don't have a single M18 Fuel battery.. Hopefully Makita will improve their mower with future generations and than it will be on my radar..
@stultuses
@stultuses 2 года назад
How long do you get out of a set of batteries? On Makita's site, it says 10 min run time, surely that is on maximum speed (setting 3, 7000 rpm)? Other models say 38 mins run time (I assume setting 2, 5400 rpm) Anyone? I want to pull the trigger and purchase this beast but not if the run time is only 10 mins unless I can run it on setting 2, 5400 rpm and get a lot longer run time) Also, the head spins anti-clockwise doesn't it? (different to other trimmers) That's actually good, means it doesn't throw the cuts off towards you, instead projects things away from you
@gloriouspopemantom373
@gloriouspopemantom373 2 года назад
I've got the DUX60 model, its around 40min on medium with trimmer, brush blade does over an hour on medium. The counter clockwise spin is a little odd for me, I like to have the strap on my left shoulder , with this it would be better on the other but doesn't feel right, not a deal breaker, Im sure one could adapt and even like this is ok.

Jesus Christ saves from sin. Romans 3: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Hebrews 9: 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Isaiah 64: 6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Revelation 21: 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Romans 5: 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. John 3: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14: 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 10: 9-10. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Jesus said John 5: 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 1John 5: 10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Ephesians 2: 8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Romans 8: 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5: 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. ....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Baised on your reviews of how good Makita is I just bought 2 Makita 21 inch self propelled mowers , 36 volt blower , trimmer with multi tool head , attachments , edger , hedge trimmer attachment, hand held hedge trimmer , extension shaft , pole saw , two dual port rapid chargers and 5 and 6 AH bats. I have never even seen Makita lawn care products but they look great in your reviews. STIHL and Toro gas will now be mine back ups. I just installed two solar panels , invertor and voltage regulator on my work van. I am stoked to now offer my new electric lawn care this season.

gotta say, not a huge fan of the soft start or maybe its the internal torque control. When you trigger a gas trimmer it responds to what you do on the trigger-IMMEDIATELY. This is fine if you pick a speed 1,2 or 3 and then mash the trigger down but if you feather the trigger on this thing it get maddening real quick. for a "professional" class unit that feature should be able to be disabled.

I tried it again and i heard the hit again. On the third time, there was no hit. Basically i heard two hits in the gear box. Do you know what is that, or should i send it back for the reclamation ? Did you heard the same hit from the gear box ? Does it means gear box is changing speed on the tool because it is new, so it has to be that hit ?

That's a HUGE advantage not having a completely different battery just to get a more powerful trimmer if needed. Thanks again BOSS!!

@@ggfcfhvyy9272 I am on Makita's platform, just not for OPE. You may be right tho, if the Kobalts don't last, I'll upgrade to the Makita. I saved $200 going with the Kobalt combo & it's more than adequate with a 5yr warranty vs Makita's 3yr. I figure the extra $200 I saved will allow me to buy more Makita tools I'd use more often than the OPE stuff.

When using a big, sharp mulching blade on your trimmer you need to run it at superslow speed. This trimmer does have that superslow speed. Great!!! The cutting length is determined by the guard. If you use it without a guard you can have the string as long as you want and the trimmer can spin it. At the higher speed that would probable between 16 and 18 inches, easily.

cant find anything on releasing the string....had to take spool off entirely..that cant be right. love the device but very poor instructions!

@@AA-kf7uf The instructions are terrible! And, my wife bought an EM405MP Makita string trimmer. She didn't take into account that I use my Stihl to cut blackberry vines which this can't do. I use .105 weight line which will nearly cut cement, but this trimmer can't use that weight line. And, after receiving this Makita trimmer I installed the head as indicated in the instructions, and after using it for a few minutes the head fell off. I put it back on as directed, went out to try again, and the head came off again. So far, I can't figure out how to solve the problem, and I accidentally located another person who is having the same problem....the head falls off while using!

I like the 36v string trimmer but its way more than I need for the amount of trimming I need to do. The 18v is probably more my speed or maybe a 40v Hart or Ryobi. Isn't this model more catered towards the professionals?

Milwaukee doesn't really exist anymore, it's owned by a giant conglomerate that makes a lot of vacuum cleaners and Ryobi tools. Makita owns itself and makes it's own tools in it's own factories. It is the only power tool company left on earth that's not owned by some giant mega corporation.
