Great lesson, but uh, we have bit of a problem here...if you could just remember to put one of those cover sheets on your TPS reports, yeah...that would be great...
If you pick 3 notes per string then you end up 'continuing' to move in the same direction as you started. So if you are ascending (with all downstrokes) you will lead to the next higher string with a downstroke. When descending, you will change strings on an upstroke (like you should). Picking 2 or 4 notes per string would actually require you to 'alternate pick' the arpeggios and therefore would not work in this case.
I really respect the fact that you elevate your foot. I'm assuming you're classically trained because of that. I have been trying to learn Paganini's caprice 5, and although most of it is impossible to learn (at the moment), it serves me as an amazing exercise for sweep picking. What I do is I practice Paganini on my classical guitar, then switch to my electric and my sweep picking is almost always cleaner and sounds better after playing a piece that is far more difficult to play than most sweep picking arpeggios. Much respect!
hell with your hair dude, You are seriously one amazing guitar player.. Ive been playin for 13 to 14 years, and im pretty good id say, but man i pray i can get to your level eventually
Yes (for this particular 5 string arpeggio), but for all the other notes in this arpeggio (and for most other arpeggios) you will be moving in the same direction up/down.
Great video! Noticed something about your picking style I think I'll adopt. Looks like you're using your wrist during the triplets, then as you move up or down to the next string your wrist stays straight while the movement carries through with your elbow.....I like that.
i always practice the alternate picking in packs of 3 per note of a scale or arpeggio, just for my alternate picking... never thought of doing it with a sweep to switch strings... thanks!! btw 5 times per note is fun too for alternate picking, try it! =D
WOW!you are awesome,dude!...ultra-fast sweeps.i think you could probably challenge Rusty Cooley,Jeff Loomis,Michael Angelo Batio and Malmsteen to a guitar duel.KEEP ON SWEEPING AND SHREDDING,DUDE!!!ROCK ON!!!
Good video! Very helpful to those someone who wants and needs to not just practice, but practice correctly! One small thing, and the reason for the comment: Please normalize the different aspects of the videos audio. The volume of the output from the guitar is much too high in comparison to the narrator.. So a viewer has to turn up the volume to hear him talking, then turn it down when he's playing. It's exactly like when you're watching TV and a commercials audio is by magnitudes higher than the show you're watching, and everyone knows how irritating that is! I will be visiting your site, regardless though :)
Actually the opposite. The more overdrive, the more you practice to contain it using finger and palm muting. Not only is fretting and syncopating most important but learning to play cleanly through distortion is as well.
Good lesson but when youre picking 3 notes per string youre always going to start the next in either up/down stroke. Not all down then all up as you stated. Unless its 2 or 4 notes per note.
I have lots of problem with the right hand move. Like my pick is too hard and the strings are scratching when I sweep, i dunno how to fix that. I'm training at low BPM, but I don't really improve...
Have you heard appregio tapping before? It essentially dissects the sweep picking lick, and stretches it out into a tapping lick, it sounds a lot better imo.
