I prefer the Longines. Even with the modified ETA movement, it's still much slimmer and has similar performance to watches three times its price. I appreciate the overall aesthetic too. It almost looks like Longines combined a Rolex Submariner with an Explorer.

Oris has mutch better movement with 28.200bpm unlike longines at 25.400bpm . Also Oris calibre 400 already is an entry luxury Swiss watch for future investment as collectable watch . ORIS calibre 400 seems mutch more premium watch at the rist.

I contemplated both watches. I chose the Longines Hydroconquest with 41mm Rubber strap. I love the looks, I felt it was a better value than the Oris. The Oris requires a special tool to remove the band. The biggest controversy with the Oris Inhouse Movement is the minute hand jump when you set the time. Eventhough the Longines Movement is a modified ETA 2892, Calibre 888, it's very accurate, they slowed down the movement to 25200 beats per hour, it's consistent and reliable with 64 hour power reserve. The Oris has an impressive movement with 5 days power reserve, but days 4 and 5 have a big drop-off. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. For me, Longines Hydroconquest was a slam dunk and I like it as much as my Rolex!
@Sirkelsag666

Oris doesnt require any tool to change between straps and bracelet however you can only use Oris straps. The jumping minutes hand on the movement has been explained, and its an easy fix.

Both are great watches but at different price points. From a personal perspective the Oris wins on aesthetic as the date is at six so keeps symmetry. I actually pulled the trigger on the Oris as not only is the date at six but it is at the outside of the dial and is arguably the most readable date at six watch I have. I got the blue version but it does look great in green as well.

Im not a fan of polished links on a diver, but the Longines on rubber is stunning. Also easy ETA based movement to service, 72hr power reserve and mine runs dead on, which is not uncommon. I believe it has a silicone escapement, which helps anti-magnetism (to my limited understanding).

Used to own a Hydroconquest. Sold it because don't like the big and asymmetric numerals on the dial which make it look like a kid's toy. Another reason is the bad clasp.
@giusepperocchi2979
@giusepperocchi2979 2 года назад
I guess the identically placed numerals make the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Compressor look like a kid’s toy as well, alongside the Breitling Superocean and many other watches using the classic 6-9-12 pattern which, by the way, is perfectly symmetric with respect to the horizontal axis (did you know symmetry is relative ?). There’s no aesthetic rule stating the upper half CAN be different from the lower half, but the right half cannot be different from the left one. If you’re obsessed with symmetry you need a watch without hands and crown.

Even if it was the same price as the Longines, I’m just not buying it… also, Longines needs smaller sizes too. It is a tough one… I also think perhaps the Longines skin diver / legend diver is a more aesthetically pleasing than the hydro conquest

Excellent review. I think you're right to question the term "luxury" in relation to less expensive Swiss watches. Just because they're Swiss it doesn't make them luxury. Just as my Seiko Spring Drive would be considered luxury, I don't consider some of my watches that are about the same price as these, as luxury....unless a certain price Japanese watch is also classed as Japanese luxury if it matches these prices. It's definitely a misused term when it comes to Swiss watches in my humble opinion. To muddy the waters even more, you can get a bronze CuSn8 Cronos dive watch with the Sellita SW-200 for $289! I have the green dial version, great lume, sapphire and I took to 80m recently with no issues. I never dive deeper than 100m so can't test the 200m on the dial, then again neither of these watches are ISO certified either. I think that there's a premium put on Swiss Made that's often not deserved.
@TimeAndCrown
@TimeAndCrown 3 года назад
Hi Brian. Thanks for watching. I'm happy you enjoyed the video. The term "luxury" is a very hard one. For some people spending $1,000 is luxury, for others it's $100,000. In many regards finer watches can be considered luxury as they are objects that are very overpriced and can easily be replaced by an iPhone or a more accurate $50 quartz watch. I'm going to check out the CuSn8 Cronos. Sounds like a crazy deal. Best regards, Anders

I consider a watch to be luxury based on specs not brand or price. The Tissot Seastar 2000 rivals the Omega Planet Ocean in spec while retaining amazing finishing. That's why the TS2000 is called a luxury diver despite being only $1,025USD.

Longines a bit dressier. Bro says oris big in dive and aviation and i gotta disagree. Oris big i dive and motorsport. I got the F1 Williams day-date, things a beast. I got the hydroconquest L888.5 which is a mod of a mod of a mod ETA so its close to in house- plus the 2892-a2 is such a top tier eta, you find it in panerais, iwc's, JLC's, etc. Not to mention the L888.5's are COSC chronometers. The aquis can come w/more unique dials, better reserve and will be an overall beast. Both comparable watches from great brands. I dont consider either "entry level" rather mid tier to higher end.
