So much I didn’t know. You certainly did some serious research.

I grew up nearby. The "Lily Pool" was "The Rookery." One of my absolute favorite places, so private and peaceful. As for sports, and some may not believe it, but there was skeet shooting range along the lakefront. Yes, they'd fling clay pigeons (like frisbees made of clay, if you don't know the sport) out over the lake and you take your shotgun and try to shoot them down. Can you even imagine that today?
