Norwegian Cruise Line guests have been visiting Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas for decades. Recently, the cruise line has revitalized the island, adding new features, restaurants, and tours. So, to help cruisers make the most of their time ashore, we have put together our 10 Best Things to Do on Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.

In 2019, Norwegian Cruise Line added new amenities to Great Stirrup Cay. Among these additions was a zip line adventure course. From a height of 110 feet, cruisers can reach speeds of 30 MPH while screaming down 5 lines.
Another addition is the new Food Truck, serving up complimentary sandwiches. This new eatery joins an updated island grill, and our personal favorite, Abaco Taco, the custom taco stand that was added a few years ago.
Other tours and excursions on Great Stirrup Cay include a trip to Stingray City, where you can feed stingrays, or a stop at Treasure Island to swim with the pigs.
Back on the island, you can enjoy the crystal clear waters by grabbing your ideal complimentary lounge chair and soaking up the sun. Or, you can explore what lies below Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas on your own self-guided snorkeling adventure.

I would have been able to get there on my last 3 cruises scheduled to go, but rough seas always stops the tenders, so I haven't gotten there yet! Maybe on my 18FEB23 cruise which SAYS we are scheduled to stop!

If the rough sees stopped the tenders did they offer some kind of reimbursement for that?

This video is SO helpful! Way better than anything I've found from Norwegian itself. Thank you! The only thing I'm still confused about is if food is complimentary on the island too since it's private or if it's an extra cost.

How do you book the string ray excursion? Going there in Sept/Oct.

You can book in on your cruise planner on the NCL website.

@@Eatsleepcruise1 Thank you. There is only a few excursions scheduled for the day we will be at GSC and the string ray excursion doesn't seem to be one of them. NCL said some of the excursions have been delayed so still hoping it shows up on our itinerary.

It looks so much different than it did in pre-cruise days. I was on that island in Nov and Dec 1982 to watch over the property and solar equipment. There were buildings, but lunch and dinner was what you caught with a spear and snorkel. There was lots of flour, so pancakes every morning. No power. Rain water in a cistern. Did have a gas camping stove. There was some fraud who said he was the "original survivor" and claimed he lived there for 5 years, 1980 to 1985. What a made up story. The owner, Neil Ruzik, only had people stay 60 days at a time and that guy tried to make himself famous on a fantasy lie.

Yes, participants must weigh no more than 250 lbs.

If you compare this island to coco cay, you'd never go here. Everything is extra, all excursions, no activities to do on island, you have to tender to get to island which takes forever, its basically a beach that all.
