In a conversation about backpacks recently, I said pockets that easily fit Nalgene bottles should be standard on every new bag. This goes above and beyond. Nice bag!

There are still Duluth packs in use in the woods that were crafted half a century ago. I moved to a traditional canvas rucksack myself this year during the hunting season. I was floored at how much more I liked it over my modern nylon & Cordura rigs. I'm probably stuck canvas from now on. I was checking Duluth's canvas hunting pack a couple of months. I have one of their satchels that I absolutely love and have used to travel with up into the Adirondacks. I also have a Backwoods Bungalow.

Honest pack from an honest company. I have one Duluth pack, the Paul Bunyan that goes in my canoe. I was in Duluth this summer. I wish I would have visited this region earlier in my life.

I bought the original Duluth Pathfinder pack about 12 years ago and have put it through a lot of off-trail bushwhacking in the Pacific Northwest, the Great Smokeys, and the jungles of Guatemala. The pack is a real trooper, but I finally wore it out. Sent it back to Duluth for repairs where they're working on it now. I wondered at first if the basic webbing straps with no belt strap would dig into my shoulders, but I learned that if you're fit enough to be on the trail in the first place, you can handle a beltless pack, even with a stuffed, tool-heavy load. My pack also has the dual axe loops and bottom panel D-rings for attaching a sleeping pad. Those features are important to me. It is pricey, but if the pack suits your needs you can expect good long-term value when you find yourself still hitting the trail 15 years from now with this stylish American-made pack.

Thats very awesome! I have one similiar I bought on ebay for $24. Its an old BSA trapper nelson style with aluminum frame. I've been wanting to retrofit it as well. Theyre almost identical but that has nicer material. I have found a lot of new packs are trending back to bucket style with two outside pockets, very similiar to the old ARVN canvas packs of Vietnam. Very nice bag for sure.

Awesome pack. Great video. And for a pack that will likely last over 100 years of taken care of, 400 is a great price. Ive seen packs like these in flawless condition from over 60 years ago that were well used. Amazing

I had to order it for years I watched all the common man videos and at the time that was the gear I could afford, and it worked great finally in a spot where I can splurge a little so I had to. Cheers on all your efforts for providing a full range of options for pretty much every income level whether through spending or ingenuity, probably learn a few extra thing when you e got to be inventive to get outdoors.

I predict your preorders will exceed 10 in 15 seconds or less. This looks like a very nice setup, and a "buy once, cry once" scenario. Enlarged side pockets for cooksets/waterbottles is never a bad idea. The only thing missing is food, and that can be toted in a haversack if need be. Simple, rugged, and reliable. Take something and make it better......that's the American way 👍

i used the Rustrum model for many years canoe tripping.same pack new name.the side pouches held things i wanted to get quick like rain gear and dry socks.i had used the old style portage pack but i needed a day bag of some sort for the side pouch things.all soft canvas to keep the woodwork from damage when packs were tossed in at bad portages.

I love the Duluth packs, I own 4 of them for canoeing, and they will last generations with a little care. That’s exactly where my mind went when I saw this video, was to use it for canoe tripping with that pack basket. But the deal breaker for me is the lid/top flap, it is WAY, WAY too small, it barely covers the top with nothing in it. Add several inches on the sides and 8 or 10 inches on the front, so you can keep your stuff dry and protected. Then it would be a great pack. But that’s just my opinion of course

If only this came out sooner! I just bought a canvas bag then had to modify it and wax it myself. I needed a bag big enough to suit my daily carry needs while on the commute during winter months. I carry a bag all summer, but in winter the cold weather gear is a whole kit all in itself.

👍 .. nicely thought out. I like decently-sized side pockets .. those little *allbag-sized mesh pockets found on many packs often don't cut it. Decent size side pocket .. one can also stash one's poncho or, even better (for me), a Thermos Flask inside an insulating sleeve for those really cold days. For the price .. hand made and the guarantee .. good value.

I have 5 of the Duluth Packs for canoeing in the BWCA wilderness. I have more than 50 trips with my packs. If it was made by Duluth Pack, it will be a quality pack that will definitely outlast you. Mine were bought in the 1980s and they still are in good shape. How many of your packs can say that? Probably none of them. If you are on the fence with this pack, don’t be, just go and buy it. You won’t be disappointed. Good job on this design Dave.

I have the original pathfinder edition pack. It ripped at the leather patch the straps are connected to. I was told it ripped from over stuffing the pack. Which is probably true I had pretty much everything from self reliance outfitters stuffed in the pack when it happened. So a lot will go in the pack but there is a point where it can be too much

Idk, I see what you're going for but top flap seems short and narrow, would have been nice to be able to secure something under the flap/overstuff. An axe/saw sleeve would have been cool. Or even a small game carry cord attachement

Nice looking pack. Those large pockets are exactly why the torpedo pockets on Mystery Ranch packs are popular. Many pack makers think that the number of pockets is what matters. I disagree. I think it is the number of usable pockets and a bunch of small pockets, while potentially useful, are not the way to go. But a couple small pockets is good.

Aesthetics are indeed important, and I like the way this one looks. A lot of the allure of the outdoors is the natural beauty and peaceful views. We spend a lot of time looking at our kit. Carrying some terrible eyesore that looks like it came from chucky cheese does mitigate some of the beauty of being in nature, and around natural materials.
@weekendshermit

Honestly, the backpack looks awesome and I love the side pockets. But I wonder how well does it manage heavy loads. Do you think that adding a chest strap and a hip belt to it would help to distribute the weight or rather beat the purpose of the bag pack and just add more weight or simply mess up with the "traditional style" of it? No matter the answer, if any, i still think it's an awesome product.

Hand made in the USA isn’t cheap but it’s worth the cost just have to save up and if you trim the little extras you spend in the day you find it adds up quick really heck just bringing a lunch from home of left overs from last night instead of going out and eating at the drive through will pay for that pack in one pay half I bet

Very nice pack. Unfortunately the going rate for quality places it way out of my budget. I use one of similar size that I built myself, to fit my gear, out of a pair of carpenter pants. I understand the labour/material costs and see how they justify the price. If my budget changes I will definitely get one. I've been looking for one of this size for a long time but also having something, straps or d-rings or loops, on the bottom for my 'Cowboy Bedroll' on my 'Trekker' kit.
