_Your hair looks good. Grease was vilified by You-Tubers, who were either trying to sell their product or someone else's product. This was a scare tactic to get hard working Black women to spend our hard earn money on mess that just don't work. Most Black hair need something stronger than oil because oil isn't getting the job done on most Black hair as it pertain to keeping the moisture within._ _Petrolatum comes from the __earth.My__ photo is over 4 years old and I have been natural for almost 4 years. I grease my scalp and I know people who are 70/80 years old and they have never had an issue with their hair._

I'm so confused as to why we ever went away from this. Logically, I always knew that grease would be best for some, especially if you're protective styling precisely because of the petroleum. So many of us had long, thick, healthy hair as children and our mom's were all about grease and Luster's pink! It seems like the things that changed the most as we got older were our hair care practices and chemicals, when our products really weren't the issue in the first place . I'm all for progress, but let's not forget where we came from , especially if it worked. The issue with petroleum is that moisture can't get in, but it is the best at maintaining the initial hydration and moisture in your hair in the beginning. I have highly porous hair and this has been the only thing that has maintained moisture for weeks on a time for me. Not even shea butter is this effective. I think people's other issue with grease is that you have to use a sulfate shampoo to remove it completely. I disagree, as I've had success with many types of shampoos in removing grease. But if you're someone who believes in Co washing or very gentle shampoos, then no, this is not for you. Personally, I'm glad that the pendulum is swinging back towards the balance between natural and unnatural products. It means that the doors are open for people who cannot afford $20 for a sealant to try being natural because of the lack of judgment and the affordability that we are advocating now. It's awesome if you're someone who exclusively uses natural products, but I'm glad that we are more accepting of everybody's type of natural now.

I use this on my hair and scalp and my hair is thriving. It works for 3 type hair as well. Who ever said its bad is full of shit. Think about it back in the 70s they didn't have all these so called natural hair products. Grease and water was all they used and people had big beatiful afros. I tried using just creames and oils on my scalp and it left my scalp dryer than before. If you grease your scalp use very little . I grease my hair and scalp only once a week and thats on my wash days and my scalp and hair stays so moisturized. I think the only reason they tell you that grease is bad so you can buy them expensive ass products that don't do shit for your hair .

Ginger Bingmon I think so! Before my mom ruined my hair with relaxers and other crazy products, my hair was so long I could sit on it! All she used then was blue magic, water, that sheen spray on top. It smells good and doesn’t make my hair feel dry. The only thing I do different now, is condition with cholesterol, and I use castor oil.

Let me just say this. The only reasons why grease got a negative rep was bc it came from an unsustainable source: crude oil. Crude oil comes from living organisms of the sea/oceans that have died and have been under lots of heat and pressure from layers of rocks. Therefore, if you ask me, it's very much a natural product. But, it's not sustainable. It takes many years to make crude oil, so we can't get it back quickly after using it. So "green" companies tried dissuading people from using it bc it's not sustainable/eco-friendly. It actually performs well (as you've experienced) as an occlusive (keeps moisture in/ does not allow water to evaporate out) that has a low comedogenic rating (0 to be exact) meaning it doesn't clog pores.

My mom used this same exact grease on my hair as well. It didn't harm me then and it won't harm me now.Petroleum is found in the earth, so essentially it is natural, because it naturally occurs in the earth. The molecular structure of grease is too large to clog your follicles. So it would be fine to use on your scalp but it's ok to use other oils with better nutrients because petroleum doesn't have any and Our parents used it on our hair back in the day, we just have a tendency to follow other bandwagons and forget where we started from. BTW-Your hair turned out beautifully. Now you reminded me that I need to go to the beauty supply store to pick up a jar. Thanks

my mama always used grease on my hair and my hair was always super moisturized, thick, long, and healthy. when i decided to go natural i stopped using grease because that’s what ALL the natural hair gurus said to do, so i did. since then, my hair is always super dry and i have to constantly add oil to it throughout the day. my mom still uses grease to this day and has been natural for over 15+ years. one day i grabbed some of her blue magic and put it on my curls and OMG 😮 when i tell you the definition, the softness, and the shine on my hair was unlike ANYTHING i’ve ever achieved with the tons of natural hair products i’ve used over the years! even when i want to do a sleek bun or ponytail, all i need is grease, water, and a brush and i’m g2g!!! it’s safe to say i’m ditching all these high end natural products and taking it back to my mama’s regimen! it may not work for everyone but it DEFINITELY works for me! thanks for the video 😘

I think if a person has high porosity hair then grease actually helps as a great sealant, the melting point and boiling point is very high as well and that makes it a great heat protectant, hence the reason why we used it to press our hair back in the day..... I don't remember anyone having heat damage back in the day lol.

Us returning to the old standards (grease, castor oil, jojoba oil, etx) gonna put a lot of hair cared co.'s & beauty supply stores out of business. There's just way too many products out there making claims and most are just a lot of chemicals. Sorry but all those chemicals that you can't name are better than plain old petroleum? That's why folks have no hair. I think there was a campaign to disparage petroleum/petrolatum when the hair care industry wanted to make more money and take folks away from the ingredient basics which just happened to also be widely available and fairly inexpensive.

I've been rediscovering the wonder of hair grease for months now. My mom used it a few times when I was a kid, and she hot-combed my hair, but I didn't use it until more recently because I've been natural for a long while, no heat application or anything for the past few years, just braid and twist-outs and sometimes wash-n-gos. I'm mixed and have 3B hair in its natural state. For these months, I've been alternating betwen Softee coconut oil and Softee mango butter, first applying a super affordable Olive Oil hair dress product (Lusti Organics, I think), then small dabs of the grease, brush out my hair, braid or twist and I've been LOVING the results. I used products over the years which were so much more expensive than the dollar pot of Softee I've turned to, and it did nothing for me. Then I started learning more about grease in the natural hair world and decided to give it a try. I'm SO glad I did!

I really appreciate that you gave old school methods a try and broke another natural hair "rule". When I was growing up, my mom used Ultra Sheen grease on my relaxed hair. I went back to natural 10 years ago, and tried all kinds of oils, butters and creams. But I was still buying grease for my husband and son. About 6 months ago, I decided to give grease a retry. Why? Because I was unhappy about how dry and bleh my hair seemed, even though I was using all these products on it. Now, I use water and Softee Indian Hemp to moisturize my scalp and blown out hair. My hair is softer, my scalp is happy and my routine is way less time consuming. Plus, my pockets are incredibly thankful, because a $1 jar of grease lasts over 30 days. TFS!

Thats why black people used it. If it's not broke don't fix it. All of these pricey natural hair products was created to make money from the black natural hair movement. Its marketing. I still use hair grease in my hair.

What I think happened is that alot of us had perms for a very long time and when we went back natural (as community) we kind of put everything from that phase of our lives in the same category of being "bad". . .like I had natural hair up until I was liiiiikkkee 15-16. And then I got a perm. No wait I got my first perm when I was like 5-6 but I grew it out. Anyways alot of us got perms really young. I think everything is going full circle and having natural hair is the norm now so the hype is dying down. Now we're like picking up old practices that works. Imma go get some grease today. . .well if I can lol

Blue Magic is wonderful. My hair is naturally dull. I've tried so many natural hair products that promotes shiny healthy looking hair, but my hair doesn't look any better. I have been using any and all products that my mom used on my hair and the products I used on my girls hair. Just as you said before about your mom using water with it, after you use it on your hair once, use water to reactivate the grease. Honestly, my hair always produce better results when I use what I know. Great video!

Pnut no but for real tho. I went to the beauty supply store after I haven't been in some months and they were so many more versions of blue magic that I remember. They had carrot oil, jbco, and like 31 other flavors. I was like when did petroleum get so complicated? Maybe it was always like that idk🤷🏾‍♀️

I love your hair results. I have no problem with hair grease. i have no with petroleum. I have seen that it works very well on my hair and my daughter's hair. I agree that my hair problems started when I started coloring my hair and putting perms in my hair before that I had no problems with it just using water and Blue Magic. I tried a blue magic twist out it worked fine and all you have to do to remoisturize your hair is put water back on it. U don't have to apply more grease and the grease will still work. U do have to use a clarifing shampoo every coupla weeks. But i have no problem with that.

Hair is dead matter so it shouldn’t really matter what you put on it as long as you clarify every now and again and avoid clogging your scalp with products x

Lol I got some grease from amazon and tried it out on one section of my hair and when I tell you I was shook 🤯 because the results where 10x more defined and silky than putting a ton of gel on my hair. I can’t stress it enough how I’m excited to have grease back in my life. Not to mention my hair only took 1-2hrs to dry vs a whole day🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Y’all always say grease clogs your pores, it’s so bad for your hair blah blah blah but if you are actually washing your hair like y’all should be, grease would not be a problem for your pores 🤷🏿‍♀️ and also if your just using grease on dry hair then there is your problem.

My neighbor who is older mentioned that she started using Blue Magic on her hair again and I'd purchased a couple of jars and so far I love it. My hair stays moisturized longer than before. Since I wear wigs most of the time, Blue Magic is a lifesaver for my hair! Also, I use it on my scalp as my mom would when I was younger and had no problems with my scalp getting clogged. And it's cheaper too!! Great video and thanks for your honesty!

I starting using the blue magic and Dax again a few month back and my hair love them. My hair is moisturize for days. I have high porosity thick full coily 4b/4c hair. Finding a product that moisturize, smooth and define my hair is not easy. Back in the days, we didn't have all these products and our hair flourished. I'm using less products now and I went back to the minimal products I used when I went natural. And , my hair is getting healthy, longer, moisture and strong. Less is more

I went back to Blue Magic about two years ago. I love it, but I use other products a well. I am moving away from my product junkie days and just sticking with what works for me for my 2STwists: Blue Magic with water, Aphogee products alone, or I will use Aphogee leave in conditioner with Eco Flax seed/Castor Oil and seal it in with a little BM to seal. Love your vids.

I 1st went natural in 2011. Stayed natural for 5 mos. Went back to the creamy crack because of dryness. I used coconut oil bcuz " THE NATURALS" said to. Omg, I finally realized it was the coconut oil! They were not trying to hurt us, I truly think " They" thought grease was bad. So I listened. However, I watched a few videos with people using/ returning to grease, and so did I! I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with my hair again! Scalp and all. It's now a part of my regimen, and I'm never leaving it again!!!😅

I saw your video the other day and decided to try it. I too remember using Blue Magic as a child. A aunt damped my hair once and applied Blue Magic and my hair was laid. She was the only person to ever do that to my hair and I never forgot. WELL - back in the day don't apply to me TODAY. This was a fail for me. You said that those were your individual results and that's the truth. I was very thoughtful of the amount of grease I was putting on my hair. I absolutely didn't want a greasy result. WELL - no matter how thoughtful I thought I was, my hair was TOO greasy. A moderate amount of this stuff is too much for me. The twist result was beautiful but just too greasy. I couldn't live with it and tried to wash it out but I couldn't wash it all out! After about 4 or 5 wash attempts that included my favorite shampoo and also clarifying shampoo, Blue Magic is still in my hair. I gave up, because I didn't want to dry my hair out with continual washings, but looks like Blue Magic protected my hair from drying out, because it is still coating my strands. How do I know? After a rinse, I work my hands through my hair and there is still grease on my fingers. When I grab a glass, my fingers slid along the glass. I now have a clay mask on my hair and I threw out the jar of Blue Magic. I wanted to try. I did. I will never do that S@#% again!! I was tempted to go for dawn dish washing liquid to get it out, but I know better. Your hair looked beautiful. I am glad it worked for you. FYI - My hair is in the 4s, a combo of 4a and 4b I think.

I like old fashion 60s crisco and water on my hair and it works. I don’t use conditioner anymore because the new hair stuff has my hair dry. I used water and blue grease because my old ass dad has only buys Murray’s and blue grease. It works. My hair is pretty long too so there isn’t any breakage. You need water. If it doesn’t work. Girls apply it to dry fried hair and then blame the product!

I may try it, just to try it. What really helped my hair grow was Kemi oil back in the day. I am very green so I love organic olive oil. The other secret is for moisture is filtered water(topical and internal). Another secret is just to leave your hair alone in a protective style. My hair is lap length or tailbone length. The third secret is to eat pure, whole organic foods. You can get a high quality organic cold press olive oil from Wal-Mart for $4.14(or about). It can also be used on your skin foe beautiful soft youthful skin at any age.

I was talking to someone and they shared that alot of these so called pricey products are just gimmicks. She had tried so many products, went back to hairdress and fine textures can use it, just use less on damp/ wet hair. I doesn't clog scalps / pores either. A light amount is needed, helps some ppl with volume.
