I get why all these games are going for quake/doom vibe but I really wish some devs would try recreate the magic of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark/ timesplitters 😞
@@rossstevenson2757 Goldeneye/Perfect Dark are from a "different" school of FPSs, but I do get what you say. Its because DOOM and Quake are the ones that invented the genre, so they are hugely influential. Check the rest of the list, there is a lot of other tastes and gameplay styles here.
Great video. Its a shame more of these don’t reach consoles! We gave Ion Fury and Wrath, Prodeus are coming but would love Hrot, Dread Templar, Fallen Aces and Gloomwood!
Excellent list and excellent video. Finally somebody knows how to create an effing video that lists titles. Timestamps, games listed in the description, game titles available on screen during gameplay....just fantastic all around well done. Some of the titles to look out for in 2022: Selaco, Routine, Retchid, Artificial, Cultic, Karm, Trepang2, Ripout. God you have to be unemployed to at least once finish these games.
I absolutely loved the Gloomwood demo. Can't wait to get the full version. And considering Fallen Aces is by the same publisher I need that too lol. Definitely going to get Wrath as well. Soundtrack is composed by Hulshult and any game that gets him on the OST gets blessed. Damn good time to be an FPS fan, ngl
This is the video I had waited my entire life for!!!!!!! I played Gloomwood demo last year and it was horrific and amazing! Of all these games, the ones I want to play more are WRATH and Prodeus, unfortunately Prodeus won't run on my PC. I wonder, why didn't you mention HROT? The demo is fantastic!
Great list. When indie shooters are good they’re REALLY good. Superhot and Ziggurat are my favorites. Some games that you should look out for in this genre soon are Galahad 3093 and Farmech (they’re both mech games by coincidence.) Also, one of these days you should do a superhero game list. For such a popular genre in every other kind of media, I’m dumbfounded at the lack of games featuring caped crusaders and masked vigilantes.
Ok. This might be the 10th time I say this on your channel.. These videos are absolutely fantastic!! I love. I find so many great games because of you! And making a video purely on retro first person shooters is just brilliant 👌
Great list Clemmy 🙂 Really excited to play Core Decay and Graven for that matter. Love old school fps es. Hopefully we get release dates this year. Also Blade of Agony chapter 3 which is an excellent fps mod for gzDoom. As well as Necromunda Hired Gun and definitely Stalker 2.
Wrath is cool, i played 2 maps version, then 3rd map after a while, but its quite tiresome to play new map every few months or so, so im gonna wait till full release. The same with Prodeus- awesome game, hopefully full version will be soon. Im definitely not a fan of early access way of publishing games. I added Dread Templar to my steam wishlist , looks really nice. btw. there is indie game called Graven, which is spiritual successor to Hexen series. Also looks really promising.
Was expecting that Nr1 and 2. Wasn't expecting Wrath so far back though and Fallen Aces was a nice surprise. Not so sure about the rest, maybe Dread Templar but the others all look either too dark, too old, or too slow for my taste.
I have been looking for the last half hour, but it's eluding me, but there was a game you showcased in the last 6 months, an experimental FPS with a fairly warped and gore-fueled aesthetic (lots of blur effects and fisheye maybe, possibly with some melee combat too?) that I just can't remember the name of. Any ideas, anyone...Bueller? (edit - figured it out, finally, _Devilated_ )
Does anyone have any recommendations for an old-school fps like Doom/Doom2/Doom 64 or Quake Remastered for the PS4? There seem to be very few available, and only one in this list (Exophobia) which I didn't like the look of at all. I've no interest in human or robot enemies - I want monsters, dammit, ha ha. Before anyone references Doom Eternal, I'll say that I thought the level designs were really unimaginative, and it felt incredibly formulaic (enter room, shoot wave of increasing difficult enemies, move on), EVEN for a mindless shooter. Every other Doom incarnation (with the possible exception of Doom 3, and some of the Doom 2016 levels) had clever level designs and surprises.
That boomerang game. We always need more FPS that isn't just the the usual guns, crowbar and wasd movement. But just one weapon doesn't sound good. Zipping around and bullet timing sounds fun though.
And not one of them can be bought in playstation store. From all the retro shooter of the last 3 years were only 1 oder 2 ported to ps4. That's just awful.
I don't get the hype around Prodeus. The game feels slow, the weapons are boring and feels weak (and also why they need to reload?) and the visual clarity is god awful. I get it that this art style is a mix of both worlds, but it looks very muddy, they need to add an option to scale up the pixels a bit better.
