At around $2,000, I believe this is the best value rear bumper with dual swing outs that you can buy for the 5th gen Toyota 4Runner! From what I heard, TJM are planning on raising the price soon, so it might be worth ordering!

Did you work out the switch? It has the options to turn on the rear flood lights when the parking lights are turned on for camping.

Same! I’m sure single swing out is easier most of the time, but it’ll be nice to have both if space is limited, or I’m on a slope.

Definitely the best looking bumper. I like that the swing outs are integrated into the bumper body, rather than just pinned on top. This design seems like it would allow less swing arm flex than the top pin design.
@RevereOverland

I agree! I think that's why you lose some clearance at the back, but it could be worth it!

@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 3 года назад
The bumper is great. It got knocked out of place on a particular hard hit, but it just required loosening the mounting bolts and realigning. From what I understand, that could have happened to any bumper not welded on.

I saw in your walk through of the 4runner you had some issues with it knocking your quarter panel loose. Would you still recommend this for a budget friendly rear swing out? I can't afford the CBI lol
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 2 года назад
It depends what you’re doing. For fuel and water storage, it’s great. For muddy trails, it’s great. If you’re going to be dropping hard off rock ledges, not so much! I’ve shifted the mounting point on this twice now, and both times were after coming down on a rock hard.

I like some of the design features but I have to agree with you about the swing out locking pin access. Seems to me it wouldn't have been that much more effort to incorporate a shield or splash guard on the inside of the bumper to protect the swing out pin and the back up lights from mud and rocks. Also, not too crazy about those exposed wires. That could've been more thought out as well.
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 4 года назад
I'm wondering if there's something I can put in to protect the locking pins. The wires are protected when the arms are closed, so thankfully they won't be catching on anything on the trails.

Revere Overland … go buy you some real thick rubber sheet and trim & cut to fit this area… there’s bound to be a local company within your city that sales misc rubber for automotive … a old mud flap would work as well … you could drill and rivet on those small pieces to keep debris out.

Before installing your rear bumper did you do anything to the rear stock suspension? I’m really looking at bumpers I just don’t really know if it’s necessary to upgrade the suspension beforehand. Thanks, great video

You’ll definitely want to upgrade the suspension. I have Old Man Emu medium duty suspension, and I’m on the fence about going to heavy duty.

Enjoy your videos and creative style. Is the bumper mostly bolt on in terms of fit and attachment, or did it involve mods to the vehicle (e.g., frame or attachment cuts / drilling / grinding)? Also, do you think you could have installed it yourself assuming tool and time availability? As well, did I overlook a front bumper video? What model is the front bumper, cost, and who installed it? Is it bolt on? Thanks
@deanpecce6423

@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 4 года назад
Thanks. The bumper is mostly bolt on. You have to cut the plastic OEM bumper though. I probably could have installed it, but everything takes me at least 3 times longer than it should! You retain the stock tow hitch. I have had some issues with my bumper that I’m waiting to resolve. I put a picture on Instagram/Facebook, and will update there. Front bumper is ARB, and I didn’t do a video because I was in a hurry to install!

Revere Overland don’t have Instagram or Facebook; Do you mind sharing what issues your are having with the rear bumper … Because of stumbling on this vid you made me aware of this brand and I really dig its simple design and all those other manufacturers are way to expensive for me once you start adding on accessories and paint! … I’m ready to purchase, but now I’m concerned.
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 3 года назад
@@drewman5740 I came down hard on a rock just behind the wheel, which caused the bumper to shift where it's bolted. From what I understand, this can happen with any bumper that doesn't have reinforcing struts going across to the frame. The only places it attaches are right at the back, directly to the frame, so there's a lot of leverage when you hit on the further forward point. It was a simple fix though!

That made in china steel is actually pretty bad. Most of the time it's just recycled steel bought from other countries and then in effect watered down. That being said I am sure it will be fine for your application. Doesn't look too bad but that, as you said being on the lower end of cost, at 2+K is a lot of $$ towards gas and other things so one would have to really question if they actually need it. I know it's cool and looks good to add things but sometimes we don't' really need it. BTW..that RTT looks huge!! ;-)
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland 4 года назад
Yeah I get that. TJM is a well known and well respected brand, so I have some faith in their materials! The rear bumper wasn’t a ‘need’, but it’s opened up some storage options - I didn’t want propane or gasoline in the vehicle, and I’ve got room for a 7 gallon water tank where the spare tire was now! The RTT is about the same size as the Smittybilt XL. For some reason it looks taller, but I think it’s just because it’s higher in the back, where the Smittybilt is highest in the center.
