What do you think? Would these have been your pick or is there something else?
@FinalLugiaGuardian

I agree that the m&p 15-22 feels cheap compared to other .22 rimfire AR style guns. It's like compareing a full metal Winchester 9422 lever action vs a Henry H0001 lever action. You get what you pay for.
@wonderloaf

I've never touched a .22 AR, but the Lantac has always seemed appealing to me. I don't think I'd go for their upgraded models though, they seem expensive for what's still a .22 AR
@FinalLugiaGuardian

@Matt Stephens True, but Callum was speaking specifically to legal British guns. Do the British gun laws allow 5.56mm to .22 rimfire AR conversions on an FAC?

I am serious about this suggestion. There are other things to legally shoot, rather than live firearms. By focusing on only live firearms, people might begin to see you as the UK version of a "PATRIOT", instead of a fun loving shooter.

This video came out at just the right time for me, since ive been looking at buying various semi-auto .22s and this was a super great help, but does anyone have much experience with the HK 416D in .22lr?
@EnglishShooting
@EnglishShooting 3 года назад
I've shot the 416 a few times, it's a nice gun for a plinker or if you watch something specifically to imitate the full-bore 416. The .22 version isn't the best quality though, and reliability isn't good. They are very difficult to work on, clean and service. Funny enough I was looking at the 416 when I bought the 15-22, I'm very happy I when for the gun I did.

@@EnglishShooting Ah good to know and thanks for replying, I actually do want a .22 replica of a fullbore but not the HK416 though. Deep down i really want a M16E1 clone in .22lr, thats why i need a .22 that will take AR uppers lol!
@mokujin1977
@mokujin1977 3 года назад
I have the 416. Admittedly, it’s the original, quad-rail version and not the latest iteration. I can’t speak to the newer version of the rifle but I have put thousands of rounds through mine with absolutely no reliability issues whatsoever. Another guy who shoots with our club has the same rifle and says that he has never had any issues either. I don’t think it’s that much of a hassle to clean and service, personally, but that’s just my opinion. I have shot the M&P 15-22 and it is a nice rifle but the only stand-out positive it has over the 416 is the bolt release. Try and get hands-on with both before you make a decision - you might shoulder the 416 and hate it immediately or you might not like the feel of the Smith’s polymer frame. After all, opinions are great and all but it’s you who’s going to be parting with hundreds of pounds.
@mokujin1977
@mokujin1977 3 года назад
Actually, the trigger is nicer on the 15-22, too, if I’m being honest. Having said that, I still love my rifle and don’t really feel hard-done-by when I look at the other 22s on the shooting line.

Why not move to ar9 weapons but in .22? Seems a better starting point than a 5.56 based weapon.
@MKPSG12
@MKPSG12 3 года назад
This is Britain, we're not allowed 'weapons', we have firearms. Anything full-bore (pistol or rifle) cannot be semi-auto here (it would have to be straight-pull, bolt-action or lever-action), hence sticking with .22lr guns.
@marcgraham412
@marcgraham412 3 года назад
@@MKPSG12 what is a firearm if not a weapon? And if we can have, as we do, .22 mini rifles based on the ar15, we can have them based on the ar9.
@MKPSG12
@MKPSG12 3 года назад
@@marcgraham412 A weapon is defined as something that is used for offensive or defensive purposes. We (civilians) are not permitted to possess a firearm for either of those purposes so it is inaccurate to refer to them as such. Re: your original post, apologies I read it as you asking about using 9mm chambered rifles. I don't see the difference an AR9 looking .22lr rifle would have over an AR15? .22 shouldn't even be regulated, such a pain in the ass
@tuscan666
@tuscan666 3 года назад
Can't agree with that I'm afraid. The .22lr is much more destructive than people think.
@DaSpineLessFish
@DaSpineLessFish 3 года назад
@@tuscan666 So is a crossbow yet it is still legal. Gang members don't bother staying within legal limits as we all know, and if they have caches of automatics, machine pistols and shotguns I don't exactly see this changing much. Also two important factors is air rifles are unregulated and intention. Unregulated air rifles might not penetrate as deeply but being hit by one in the eye is just as serious, what should be in place is fostering the importance of firearm safety and respect. Someone who's grown up with guns will know this but someone just buying one for a hobby/light pest control won't so it could be as simple as the gunshop or local clubs providing some form of basic safety lessons and training before purchase. The other is intention, if you're buying a gun to commit a crime then its not exactly the gun that's the problem is it. Requiring photo ID to buy picks, screwdrivers and kitchen knives hasn't done anything to reduce knife crime and the argument that allowing deregulation will increase crime is the exact same logic as antis after Dunblane. Or if this is still not satisfactory at least lower it to a legal license that requires a mandatory firearm safety lesson at a range for a day before you have a card or ID you can take to the shop and buy a gun the exact same as scooter licenses. To get a CBT for a 125cc bike you can take a days test and competency course that trains you in road safety and riding practices and you can buy a bike the same day after you get your certificate. I see no reason why we can't do this with a .22 rifle as we all know road accidents are far more common and yet its not like a respectful normal adult who gets on a scooter to commute to work suddenly turns into a crazed road raging drunk driver.
@davidmason2256
@davidmason2256 3 года назад
@@DaSpineLessFish you dont need a CBT to go out and purchase a scooter/bike. You need one to be legal when on the road (along with other things). I don't think the two things are comparable. Also I can't see an FAO sign off on the issuing of an FAC unless he/she is satisfied that the applying individual has demonstrated that they understand the law and can operate the firearm safely. Most HO approved clubs I know off won't support an application without the individual having completed a period of probation first anyway. This would likely be above and beyond your suggested one day course.
@annacrow9716
@annacrow9716 3 года назад
@@DaSpineLessFish there is a reason it is far more difficult for criminals to get a hold of rifles in the UK vs US. Constraining the white market also hurts the black market.
@tuscan666
@tuscan666 3 года назад
@DaSpineLessFish What criminals choose to do with illegal firearms will always be difficult to control. I'm not sure making .22lr firearms easier to acquire would help our sport/community in the long run. I would much prefer the return of previously banned firearms with even stricter vetting, training and storage requirements but that's just my opinion.
