Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Peter Milligan, Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis. I also love the early-to-mid 2000's series like DMZ, Y The Last Man, Fables etc. Awesome video thanks for that JUICY content!

You know vertigo is the one company I've wanted to read several books from like preacher and especially swamp thing and sandman but I've never had the chance or ability to get their books. I was lucky and read Y the last man digitally, it was an amazing series. Your lucky to have all the books you do, though I get single issues im sure if I change to a tpb/hc only collector I'd find myself getting a lot more of the things I missed out on. My list, mostly in order: 1) Sandman 2) Transmetropolitan 3) Planetary 4) Swamp Thing (Alan Moore) 5) Authority 6) Doom Patrol (Grant Morrison) 7) Watchman (Based on content, not imprint, it was as Vertigo like as any Vertigo title) 8) All Star Superman (I don't care it's neither Vertigo or even Vertigo like) 9) V For Vendetta 10) The Invisibles (Only on the strength of the first half; the less said about the second half and Morrison's "philosophy" the better). 11) Lucifer

Having just read Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing for the first time, I think a lot of the attempts of modern discourse around that run to describe exactly what it is or why it’s good are inadequate. I mean this in the best possible way: Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing was 100% completely not what I expected.

Praetor7 Not super important. Only thing you need to really know is who Anton Arcane is going into Moore’s first issue, and Swamp Thing’s origin. After that, he does his own thing.

Yeah definitely preacher really Define my face in certain thing. The way I got into the series was I was reading this vertigo trade that had the first issues. I forgot what it was called. And I decided at my local comic book store at the time to check out the series. It blew me away how good the series was for me. I just was in pure shock how the artwork was on point. The story definitely was something we haven't seen before in my opinion. From start to finish I really cared about their journey and trying to find God. And make him answer for what do you thought I really enjoyed the issues where Jesse Custer talk with his dad's best friend during Vietnam. In the stories were so creative I mean they were funny but at the same time it really got you the reality of war from his perspective on things because if you read the Series. If you have not I suggest you read the series because it is crazy. It was crazy how these characters felt so realistic. This has to be in my eye the best series ever to go for me it just took me just someplace the really captivated by the characters even learning about Jesse backstory I broke down and cried. I felt so horrible Jesse Custer That his imaginary friend kind of gone through that and if you read the series you know who I am taking about a certain famous figure. This has to be a 10 out 10 of that type of series. Rest in peace Steve Dillon a Genius

Hi Omar! Great review of your Top 10 Vertigo books. I agree with your inspired choices which I too own and have read on several occasions, however you did miss out "PLANETARY" by Warren Ellis. With regards to SANDMAN, it deserves it's no #1. status. I think it has been released several times in some high quality formats from Deluxe to Library to Omnibus & Absolute edition. My recommendation, which I have mentioned to you before would be the 70 issues series SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE by Matt Wagner, Steven T. Seagle & Guy Davis. These comics were absolute quality! My only concern would be that DC Vertigo have still not released this title in any Deluxe hardcover, Omnibus or Absolute edition. Which I consider to be a grave injustice to these fine stories. Any reason why Omar? It's so frustrating when you hold a title in high regard and yet it never gets given the royal treatment it richly deserves.

I have V for Vendetta (republished in 2020 as DC Black Label 10 months after Vertigo discontinued), The Losers (under the 10 anniversary imprint called Vertigo X), Deadenders, The American Way: Those Above & Those Below (2017 Vertigo sequel to the 2006 WildStorm series) & Congo Bill (volume 1).

If I had to make a top 10 favorite comics of all time, I could literally fill it with just Vertigo titles. Surprisingly the big daddy of them all, Sandman didn't do anything for me; I'm not ashamed to say it just went over my head. I did enjoy some of the artwork, but that's not enough for it to make my list. Y the Last Man started out really strong, but for me it completely fizzled out at the end; I'm not a person to get overly involved emotionally, so it didn't work from that standpoint either. Still, the imprint is going to be sorely missed... The order my top 10 comes in is really hard to pin down because my favorites swap all the time . But when I look at my favorite Vertigo books, I notice I'm really attracted to anti-heroes and flawed protagonists. My top 10; 1. Hellblazer - the one that started it all. For over 300 issues (that's counting miniseries), John Constantine's adventures had me feverishly turning the page whenever another paperback dropped. for a lot of people the go-to run on the title is usually the Ennis one, but my favorite run on the title would probably be Paul Jenkins/Sean Philips. 2. Fables - the most brilliant premise of a comic, probably ever. Often immitated but never surpassed, the book by Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham (plus an all-star line up of talented artists) may have overstayed its welcome somewhat, but should be mandatory reading. 3. Preacher - still one of Ennis' finest hours. I'm not a religious man in the slightest, but the brutality and the black humor make this a favorite. I actually prefer the smaller hardcovers over the absolute editions; the smaller size is a better fit for Dillon's art. Punisher MAX is my favorite comic by Ennis, but this comes a close second. 4. DMZ - one of the biggest surprises ever was this book by Wood and Burchielli. I'm not into poilitics or any type of war story really, but somehow this got to me. A heavily flawed protagonist (Matty Roth), a great setting and a whole range of interesting characters made this one of my most intriguing reads. 5. Scalped - what I said about DMZ could just as well go for Scalped; the setting and the characters are what make this book the great read it is. Might be my favorite in terms of artwork. It's weird how your sympathies for certain characters change; at the end I almost did a 360 on Dash and Red Crow, and the ending is downbeat as hell... 6. American Vampire (Skinner Sweet: 'nuff said. Please finish the series, Scott Snyder) 7. 100 Bullets (come fo the artwork, stay for the story) 8. Transmetropolitan (if I had the guts, I would be Spider for Halloween, but that means shaving my head) 9. Death - the Time of Your Life (the character that transcended Sandman) 10. Swamp Thing by Alan Moore (horror masterpiece, and although I kept the hardcovers the Absolute isn't that bad, really)

@NearMintCondition
@NearMintCondition 4 года назад
Hey brother, for the same reason Colossal Conan is one of my favorite omnis and not in my top 10 DH books. My brain is odd. So I see Doom Patrol and Conan as wonderful complete collections that are HUGE. So to me that's what an omnibus is supposed to be. HUGE and complete so I love books like that. But as far as reads I went with Joe the Barbarian and Animal Man for Morrison. DP would have been number 11.

Hi Omar, thanks for doing this for all your viewers. I know I’m probably going to get slammed for this but, I have a really hard time getting into Vertigo titles. I tried reading Preacher I didn’t like it, I tried reading Swamp thing the original TPB and I enjoyed the first book. Then the 2nd one just got too weird for me, especially when the little aliens guys show up and talk in a language that doesn’t make any sense. I’ve also read Sandman Overture which was amazing, beautiful art work and I could follow it. Then i read the first TPB preludes and nocturnes, again I enjoyed it and understand it. Then I tried the 2nd Volume The dolls house, and it all went wrong from there. Couldn’t follow it, had no idea what was going on and lost interest in it all together. I tried my hardest to struggle on but in the end give up and didn’t finish it.
@NearMintCondition
@NearMintCondition 4 года назад
Nah, no one is going to slam you for having your own taste. The little alien guys were a big mockery of a comic known as Pogo. Read what you enjoy. That's what I always say..you've given them a choice.

Hello Omar! I am not a big fan of Vertigo, I am more the kind of regular Marvel, DC, Disney and lots of mangas titles, but I surely read all this titles you have in your collection and I also have all of them in my personal collection because, well, just like you, I am a completist lol. I want to express my personal opinion of what I think about my top 5 Vertigo titles. 1 - Swamp Thing is my first favorite title from Vertigo, I think it is the best. I have all six brazilian TPB signed by John Tottleben. 2 - Fables is my second favorite title and I really love the way things happen in the story. 3 - Hellblazer by Jamie Dellano and Ennis are really great and I love it. But, in general, I like all 300 issues from another writers too. 4 - Promethea is an amazing story and the art is extremely beautiful. I love it. 5 - The League of Extraordinay Gentlemen is very good and I like it. Joe The Barbarian is really a good story, specially in the art of Murphy. The other titles like Preacher, Scalped and 100 Bullets are not my kind of reading. I may like but not like at the same time and I think it is because is too violent in the case of Preacher. Animal Man is not what people say, at least not for me. I read it in 1994 in brazilian issues and about five years ago in brazilian TPB. It is not bad for sure, but it is not great too. The same could be told about Invisibles that start very nice and interesting and suddenly got lost in Morrisson crazies. Doom Patrol I do not know what to say because is completelly nosense, not my kind of stuff. Y The Last Man and Ex Machina is nice, but the end of both stories is very desapointing. Transmetropolitan sucks! I think that the only thong I like from Warren Ellis is the first twelve issues of Authority because everything else that I read from this autor I didi not enjoy. Sorry! I, Zombie sucks! Sandman, well, I never finished it. I tryed to read it 3 times and always quit in the issue 39-40 because I think is extremely boring. I like the first run when Morpheus wake up and the way the story is writen, but after that is too slow. I do not know how to explain, but it is difficult to keep reading until the end. There are other two titles from Vertigo that I really love. Books of Magic and Lucifer. This is just my feelings about the titles presented, please do not be offended.

The reprint of Swamp Thing along with vol 2 has been preordered. Sandman is just amazing still reading but you are correct it hits on so many levels, 100 Bullets Omnibus has been solicited. Such a fan of Brubaker hopefully one day Sleeper omnibus is reprinted. Promethea is another amazing work waiting for Deluxe 3 to make my decision on the series as a whole. @purplerain225
@purplerain225 4 года назад
The Absolutes showcase the artwork and are like huge encyclopedias with fewer chapters generally always in a slipcase hardcover format. Whereas the omnibus hardcover collects all chapters for a specific storyline.
@purplerain225
@purplerain225 4 года назад
Absolutes are in a hardcover slipcase format hold fewer chapters than an omni and are oversized like encyclopedias. An omnibus is oversized but mor as big but contains the chapters for a story line.
