@@CasandChary Thanks! I went with Quest Pro, but haven't received it yet. SteamVR, wireless, inside/out tracking are the three most important factors for me, and it looks like Quest Pro currently meets them the best. Or am I mistaken?

Can't believe it's been over 6 years. I remember when you guys hit the 2k subscriber mark, I knew back then you'd hit over 100k eventually, and I'm saying it now this channel WILL hit 1 million once VR becomes more mainstream. The content and quality has improved so much. I don't comment much, but do follow often. Personally I think the Quest Pro is the best all around headset. Price is definitely high but cheap for the tech you're paying for. Can't wait for my PSVR2, not hating on Sony but smh on the fake limited availability!

Loved your latest VR review for those headsets for 2022 and 2023. Am 72 and have used VR for years, mostly exercise, experiences and a few games. Started with the Play Station VR and then switched to the Oculus 2. Absolutely committed to getting the Oculus 3 as soon as it comes out. Keep up the good work!

Yet again, another GR8 video (Thank U Cas 😊) I recently purchased the Quest Pro (already ownin the Quest 1 & 2 & started with the original Gear VR) There R a few issues with the Pro (forehead pressure is quite uncomfortable & the controllers sometimes take a while 2 set) but I am lookin 4ward 2 usin it more over Xmas (particularly the AR features) & I think it'll take over the Quest 2 as my daily headset 😏

Great info as always... I've had a Quest 2 since early this year after a recommendation from Cas at that time. Happy with it, and it hasn't missed a beat. Did upgrade the strap since the original is only average. Hopefully they will get it right with the Quest 3 and it won't need any upgrades. Overall this 65yo pensioner is happy with the Quest 2, and will check out the 3 when it comes out.

@@ethancbaker2002 depends, if you have a good enough internet connection going wireless will probably be fine, but if you want the most connistant connection then wired is the best option.

@@ethancbaker2002 depends on your setup and what you're playing. If you have direct LOS to a beefy router and you're playing slow-paced games, AirLink can be serviceable. If you're playing fast-paced games like shooters or beat saber, direct is the only way to go.

Vive pro2 fits the niche of wireless with full body tracking, esp if you combine it with index controllers or vr gloves. Using wigig gives it the best latency and you don't have to worry about interference from wifi. This is the best setup for dance and mocap animation. But dialing in that visual sweet spot is tricky. Harder than other headsets. The drivers used to be flaky, but seems stable this last year.

I had the quest 1 and the og rift. Now i got the Pico 4 and im happy with it, just 1 thing that trips me off a bit... the lenses are great but seem to be not 100% flat, if i look for it i can see a slight wobble when i move the headset around.

Here i am still using my Oculus Rift (CV1) + touch controllers and a 3rd sensor + a kinect V2. I think i can hold on for 2 more gens before i upgrade it since its still great and we never had a Rift 2 lol. The Index was tempting so i might grab something like an Index 2 in the future . . .

I got the HP Mixed reality headset when it first came out. I had just upgraded and built a new pc with a 1080ti nvidia graphics card. I still use it, I am considering upgrading but have concerns around a few factors: 1) I wear glasses 2) I'm not gonna upgrade my computer anytime soon (so out dated graphics card) 3) Are there things on the market that are enough of an upgrade to consider? Do you have recommendations for headsets that friendly with prescription glasses?

I'd add that used headsets should absolutely not be ignored given the relative price crash of gen 1 headsets like the Vive, Vive Pro, Rift CV1 and Rift S. I recently spent some 160USD on an HTC Vive full kit (and later upgraded to a Vive Pro for an extra 100 after selling off my Vive HMD), and it's allowed me to experience quality VR for a far lower price than current new offerings, even on the budget end (which I would not have been able to afford otherwise).

I have hp g2 and pico3 link,pico4,htcv pro2.I keep my pico3 and pico 4 the other two I am selling.Have a mid range comp I would choose pico 3 link,has much bigger sweetspot than hp and works smoother and better tracking . If you have nvidia 4090 then I would go for pico4 with virtual desktop.

I've been testing the Varjo XR-3 for work, and it's amazing. Nothing quite beats this headset in any category......except price. As the Varjo series* is not a consumer-oriented headset, it costs upwards of $10,000 and you have to have a commercial subscription to use it, which is another couple thousand dollars every year. *(They do have 1 consumer headset that does not require a subscription, but it's still 2 grand. The Varjo Aero. Still decent just not mixed reality.)

My fiance and I seem to be in the minority in our dissatisfaction with the quest pro controllers. The straps are a total joke and functionally useless, and the controllers themselves are simultaneously super small as well as surprisingly heavy. The tracking is a marginal improvement over the stock quest 2 controllers, but it's still far from perfect and we both experienced random drifting or lag events. Ultimately it was not worth the sky high price and I returned them.

Awesome video, Cas. I have an odd issue, hoping you might know something. I have a Quest 2. When using a link cable, after an hour in-game, I get a weird purple artifact in the bottom 1/3 of my lenses. Like someone put tape over my goggles. I restarted link and it seemed fine... But it worried me! Have you heard of that before? I remember this happening basically immediately using a Syntech 20ft cable, but now I'm literally just using my phone charger cable and it's been better than the Syntech. Great picture quality for a while until the strange artifact.

When using a link cable for pcvr you're viewing an encoded video stream. If the stream bugs out, you can get weird effects. If it keeps happening, replace the cable.

PSVR2 with a PC mode (esp with working eye tracking for dynamic foveated rendering) would likely make it the best bang for buck headset in 2023 for PC VR gaming. Unfortunately this won't be easy and it took a fair while to even bring PSVR1 to PC and that didn't have the complications of eye tracking (and PSVR isn't compatible, so no easy port there either).

Question for those of you with VR headsets. I want one for my office but just want to use it sitting at my desk (too much stuff to crash into like computer equipment and a couple parrot cages). Is VR still worth it without the sensors and drawing out the movement zone? I still use my original Quest almost every day, for standalone and PC games. I have a 5KXR as well which I also use most days. I won't get another headset until HDR uOLED is available. The fact that everyone clearly loves Index controllers, the open handed grip and that no one else is doing the same or even similar say's a great deal about the other companies in the space?.... I wonder why the HDR uOLED screens haven't made an appearance yet? Starting to get suspicious that someone has bought them and are holding the tech back. Also wonder about the Varjo Aero and how it could be driven as it's specs are clearly beyond the limitations of dp1.4?

It bears mentioning that the PSVR2 also implements foveated rendering better than any other system. Well, according to the hype. The PSVR1 and its game library, despite the old tech, held its own very well.

I bought the original HTC Vive in 2017 after my first trip to a VR Arcade. It's been stalwart all these years but paying the early adopters tax is difficult. Especially because the Index, which is so much better, is the same price now as the Vive was then, except I would agree it seems the Index might be getting a bit old and might not be a good value today. So far I feel that What I would do is buy a pair of Index controllers, keep using my Vive base stations, and buy the Varjo Aero to complete the set. The non-fresnel lenses and foveated rendering really appeals to me, as does the steamVR compatibility. I will still probably buy the pro audio strap from HTC for the vive, and when I have saved up, get the V2 lightboxes for steam VR so that the original Vive can still be used on another computer, so I can gift it to somebody who hasn't had the pleasure of VR. So in the end, despite the expense, I think I would prefer the Index Controllers, SteamVR 2.0 tracking, and Varjo Aero headset. Expensive, but not as bad as the big Pimax set, and enough of a quality jump over the Index to make it worth the price for me.

Glad I found you Cas, leaning towards the Occulus 2 - but what would the best setup be? Occulus with Valve Controllers? What do you recommend for first time VR setup, I have a computer more than able to support VR, so the hardward is not an issue. Or should I go Valve Index full kit?

You can't use Index controllers with the Quest 2. If you're fine with the price, the Index is a very powerful option. Personally, I had a ton of issues with my kit and Valve Support was utterly useless, so I returned it. I'm hoping another manufacturer comes out with a full kit that's comparable. It's disappointing how many of these headsets require Index controllers and base stations. They're ridiculously expensive to buy separately.

Just a small correction or detail...Quest 2 connecting to pc doesnt just allow it to run Steam Vr games....It lets it run PC VR games including those outside of the Steam Platform. I play a game I directly got from Patreon....it has nothing to do with Steam....just needs a Pc connection.

I wanted the Lynx R1, I know they can path the way for a brilliant future of the VR world but the lack of controllers at lunch plus the price increase. I can't justify buying it anymore, at least for now. So my choice is currently the Pico 4 hope to get one while the Christmas deal is still on.

Hi again 👋 I want to see and use all of my flight sim (or car) controllers and panels and only see VR outside of the cockpit windows etc. and have it all stay matched up as my head moves. Is such a thing available? (Apart from the Varjo XR3...lol bit too much $$ for me 😮) Thanks. 👋👍👏👌

They Crystal is only 1500 now, 1400 if you're a previous owner. So much better pricing than the Aero. Also, the Crystal has a higher PPD than the 12k but the 12k has a wider FOV.

Still playing PC VR on my Rift S. I know it's very dated but it works and I feel the current gen stuff hasn't advanced enough to justify me buying a new hmd. I am going to be getting the PS2 VR as it looks like it's a great deal for what you get.

The "X" in the resolution is not read as "times" it is read as "by". For instance, 3,664 pixels BY 1,920 pixels. Meaning 3,664 pixels wide by 1,920 pixels tall. Same as a 2x4 piece of wood is a "two by four" not a two times four.

Index with an i9 13900k and 4090 is definitely the best as you can crank the steam SS to get way better resolution and with the wireless adapter for un compressed data transfer , itll be game over for all other headsets as far as serious vr enthusiasts go.I'll report back tho to update when my varjo aero arrives......any day now.

@@blablasigh187 never ever would have thought vr could look this good. Comparing the aero to the index is like comparing ps5 to ps2. Everyone was complaining about Aeros audio solution and I'd agree before swapping out the little rubber pieces on the earbuds for ones with a smaller hole and now the audio is far better than the index solution. I'm running games at a resolution of roughly on average of 5000x4000 per eye @ a ppd of 35 and it's insane.....super clear....only thing I'd complain about is that there is no reproduction/motion smoothing so if your not hitting the 90hz min then you'll notice right quick however with dialing the graphic settings it's easy to work out

Got pico 4 after owning quest 2 for the last year. I was super hyped at first but...: - weird glare / reflection going on, for instance if you are in space and there is a sun, you will see its glare/ reflection in black space. And that was a dealbreaker for me. - pass-through is color, yes, but in 2D! Very disappointing. I was happy to put back on my quest 2 and deal with god rays of fresnel lenses and black and white pass-through which is 3D and actually usable. That's why I ended up ordering quest pro...

I have never used VR before (age 55) but am looking at the Quest 2 Oculus for the golf game and maybe the fitness games. I am hoping I don't get motion sickness. LOL Very interesting video.

Lots of games have 0 motion sickness. Pretty much any game you stand in place are fine for everyone. Never heard of anyone feeling sick playing Beat Saber for instance lol 100% avoid roller coaster games though, those are vomit inducing for most ppl rofl.
