This unit's heat pump has an EEV (electronic expansion valve while the GE only has a capillary tube. An EEV can respond to the environment by increasing or decreasing the flow of refrigerant as necessary, while a capillary tube is a fixed system that does not fluctuate with heat load changes.

The GE heat pump is the biggest out of the 3 main ones, theirs the LG and this Samsung. It's the smallest drum though at only 4.8 so you have you to decide if you want a smaller drum that gets the clothes dryer more quickly. For me it doesn't matter it's just me and my gf so I see no problem actually just havening it run for almost 3hrs and not having to fuss with anything. I just need to make room in my updates closet for it and make sure the delivery guys can get it up my damn stairs being so heavy 😂

For lint removal, if you use the lint to scrub more lint off, it works better. Like, rolling the lint into a growing lint ball, the static from the link easily lifts the remaining lint on the filters. Not sure if what I wrote makes sense, I'm not sure how to describe it. lol

ive been waiting for this! I have the LG combo, but the lint built up is bad! The lint building up on the coils is what made my dry times much longer, I find I have to brush off the coils every 10 loads ish. This keeps the dryer working better. Also, I've learned is NOT to put wet towels in the machine. This gives the load cells a false reading which extends drying times A LOT.

@@nae6485 Yep, I got it. I've done several loads through it and like it so far. Everything is dry when the cycle completes so there's no complaints on the heat pump. Getting used to the ability to put a load in to run at night and not have to worry about having to put things in the dryer, so that benefit would be a real nice thing to leverage if people have variable electric rates where it's cheaper to run things at night. I did figure out that the fabric softener dispenser can be changed to be an additional detergent dispenser in the settings. The downsides is that it lower to the ground than what I'm used to, so Samsung not having a ready to buy pedestal is a bummer. It's also a heavy beast so any DIY pedestal needs to be stout.

Loved the video! It confirmed my theory, this is the only combo unit on the market, so far, to actually utilize a real coil cleaning system similar to the likes of Miele, Bosch, and Asko on their respective heat-pump dryers. It seems like Samsing is finaly listening and making better built machines. ONLY TIME WILL TELL OF COURSE! But its good new to see the quality is indeed better thsn expected, so hopefully this will prove to be a reliable machine overall.

My hope is by doing this video, I can explain/show off where Samsung went right in a way that would eventually push GE and others to incorporate what Samsung did in their designs. I think this coil wash system would be a HUGE help on the GE machine, but unless maybe the public can shame them into it, who knows if they'll change.
@AgentOrange96
@AgentOrange96 Месяц назад
I've been eyeing a combo. I currently air-dry my clothes to avoid excessive heat, which causes a lot of wear on clothes. A heat pump dryer tends to heat the clothes far less, and obviously even these long load times are faster than my current air-drying tendencies. I use my dryer plug to charge one of my cars, and the spot where the rarely used dryer is would be a nice place to put my toolbox freeing up more space in front of my other car. So it just makes sense. I checked the pricing briefly and of course it's expensive, but not as bad as I had expected, so I think it's likely I'll be purchasing one of these in the future. I'm very happy with my Bespoke fridge and my Samsung combo microwave + convection oven. It's nice to see Samsung is getting their act together and making genuinely good appliances.

Thanks for the great, thorough review on this. It confirms what I've seen after owning it for a month. One detail I'd like to add is that the condenser clean cycle thoroughly wets the filter. The added moisture seems to bake the initial lint on the outer filter in a way that seems to inhibit pass-through. That being said, I definitely recommend a hand vac. I purchased the shark wand vac just for this. I figure if this lasts as long as the average air conditioner I'll be well satisfied, And I expect longer given the measures I'm taking to keep it clean

I too have a Speed Queen washer, I love it, and you'd have to pry it out of my cold dead hands for me to ever give it up. While I don't find this review useful for myself, it is useful for people who might be extremely limited on space because of living conditions. I am also a nerd, and I like to see the insides of appliances, especially these heat pump units because they are so new and different (but not necessarily better than what I'm using). It's interesting to see how they work, and the differences in design between the different manufacturers. There are no good authorized Samsung service technicians in my area whatsoever, so that automatically rules out any Samsung appliance for me (plus the horrible experience with my last Samsung refrigerator was the final nail in the coffin). One last comment I'd make, and I have no proof of this, is that this combo unit looks like it could potentially be painfully expensive to have a repair performed depending on what failed if the warranty had expired. I would LOVE to see people make youtube videos about these units 3 to 5 years from now about anything that has failed on this machine, and how much they were quoted to repair it out of warranty.

OTA updates on all these units will keep washing algorithms dynamic and weaknesses in cycles to a minimum. The mechanicals seems well laid out and I like the smaller opening (smaller seal, higher PSI on sealing surfaces and door weight reduced). I just ripped the wall open to fix a plumbing issues in a 25 year old washer outlet box. I despise how the exhaust vent on the same wall is routed for the dryer (2x4 studded wall, outdoor HVAC COMPRESSOR directly on the outside of the same wall) and there is no easy way to correct/reroute it. Thank you for this review and break down. I've had my Samsung combo for about 5 weeks and really like it so far. With the discounts I was able to get, it cost me about the same as the Whirlpool set it replaced. It dries better than the 2 gas dryers I had before it, and my concern about the drying in the LG or GE is what pushed me to this one. I wish it had a pedestal so I wouldn't have to bend over, and am concerned about putting this heavy sucker on a pedestal when one does become available. I have over 30 loads done so far and still haven't refilled the fabric softener or the soap. The most laundry I've done in a single day is 4 loads, but that is the same as what I did with the separate units. Soap dispensers at my feet is an absolute no go. Also the screen, I am not interested in bending over and reading menu after menu. I love my GE and while I understand the lint concerns I have not seen or experienced any increased dry times, I’m unconvinced that it’s a problem but we’ll see as the years march on. For me it’s stayed in that one tiny spot and I’ve had it since launch. This type of machine has been so life changing I will never go back to separate units. I’m really excited that there are now 3 on the market so they will all have to improve to compete. Love the reviews!

@user-xf5dj1up8g
@user-xf5dj1up8g 3 месяца назад
Same, but exactly the opposite of you 🙃 How can you NOT care? If you have multiple loads to do, well, now you can’t… at least in a decent amount of time. If and when you inevitably have 3 loads of laundry to do, at 3-4 hours a load it’ll take 9-12 hours to get all of them done... especially when talking about an all-in-one. That’s absolutely INSANE! Our washer on a normal wash setting takes 1hr 30min and our electric dryer has a maximum length setting (meaning it will only allow you to set it for this amount of time at most; it does not need the full time in most cases) of 70 minutes and the clothes are always completely dry. My friend got a new LG washer and dryer, both front loaders, three years ago and I watched her start a normal load of clothes in the washer and it said “2hr 55min”. I was absolutely blown away because I’ve never seen such a long wash time before. I thought maybe it’s because it’s new… nope, three years later and it still takes this exact amount of time. Except, that’s just the time the washer tells you, not the amount it ACTUALLY takes which is around ~3hr 20min. I could have two loads fully washed with one load fully dried and another started by the time one single load of hers was only washed. Her dryer on average runs for 1hr 40-50min; again I was shocked and to make matters worse, it was still a bit damp. The only people who don’t care about “how long it takes” are those with too much time on their hands, nowhere to be, or some 1-2 person households. It’s great that you can wait 3, 4, even 5 hours to get your laundry done but most people don’t like that or cannot wait that long. I mean could you even imagine if they put these kinds of machines in the public’s use such as laundromats, college campuses, apartment complexes, anywhere that’s not 24hr access?! Non-24hr Apartment Laundry Building: “Doors automatically lock at 9pm. Laundry must be started no later than 5pm.” It would be a nightmare, lol!
@Chopped86
@Chopped86 3 месяца назад
@@user-xf5dj1up8g Well I guess my counter to that would be that the machine takes up half the space and doesn’t need a vent. You could just put two in side by side which saves you the time of having to transfer loads. I have 4 people in the house and work full time to include lots of travel so I am not even home most evenings to do chores but not having enough time isn’t a big issue I have. I was clothes then have to stop cleaning to go transfer them to the drier. Once they’re in the drier I put it out of my mind because I can pick back up with laundry the next day since that saves me a lot of time. If I had an all in one I could skip the transfer step and save even more time. If I had two I could do two bedrooms of bedding per night on bedding week vs one, but one works for me fine now so why change it you know? This just makes me think about how my neighbor’s fancy electric car charges in a couple hours because of his fancy charger while my bucket takes over 10 hours to charge but alas, both our cars are 100% in the morning so I just don’t care.

I still have my 2008 Fridgedaire front load washer that runs great. this goes along with my gas dryer that has to be over 25 years old and does a great job. I have replaced the belt twice. These new appliances are crazy expensive, needless electronic gadgetry and they do not last long. BTW, my gas water heater is over 25 years old. I replaced the sacrificial rod once and plan on installing a gadget on it so that even the rod replacement will not be necessary. Im not cheap, but practical. I have three brand new $42,000 vehicles. When it is time, it is time, but I prefer value not useless features. The heat pump units are a great idea but their current cost will not be recovered by the energy savings.

But warranty to me is huge which then brings back to GE. Thanks for this video. One thing I don't understand is why the manufacturers don't use a foam filter as well. I have a Gorenje heat pump dryer (I am in Canada) and it uses a fine mesh filter in the door and then there is a separate foam filter located in an access panel. The machine is now 6 years old and the coils are still clean. Perhaps using foam cuts down the airflow to much.

Samsung alsp pops their dish washers open in the last few minutes of their dry cycle. It really helps that last bit of moist air exit the machine and the dishes feel dry. Maybe this type of washer also benefits from letting that last puff of moisture out. My one complaint is that my cat will not get into the dishwasher, but he absolutely will find a way to get into a warm pile of clothes for a nap haha.

Some things: •Why don't makers use a compact cyclonic separator to get all the lint. Mesh filters bad. •What are those green things on your water vavles? •The complexity is not the issue, the difficulty of reaching critical parts is a real problem. •Display touchscreen only, no buttons is a dumb move. Just look at backlash car makers got not having real buttons on the dash. They are all adding them back in.

My standard load for the washer takes 3:12.00 so three hours for washing, then have to take the wet close out, throw them in the dryer and wait another 2 hours until clothes are ready. Needless to say, this seems like a step in the right direction.

@21:50 The spray distributor for coil cleaning may well be the greatest thing since frozen strawberries. My concern is that if used with hard water (and in Florida, hard water is a given), the mineral buildup on the distributor will reduce the effectiveness of the cleaning system. Needless to say, that distributor isn't in a user-friendly location in the unit, making it pretty unlikely that the user will be able to clean the distributor in the same fashion as a shower head. Unless Samsung has a secret formula to clean the distributor, I can see this issue being a significant factor when I have to replace the washer or the dryer. Deciding what to buy when one's washer, refrigerator, stove, etc. has bit the dust isn't as easy as it was for my parents. Your videos do a lot to clear the fog caused by marketing and technology. A huge thanks for putting in the time, effort, and cash to produce these videos.

I used to live in an area with hard water that had a high iron content, so a water filter and water softener with iron remover was essential. It made a radical difference for everything that used water in my home. The toilets didn't stain orange over time, showering was easier with less soap needed (same for laundry and dishwasher too), and I wasn't having to clean my shower head and faucets all the time anymore. I highly recommend it if you can get one.

I have the slightest of hard-water and don’t use a water softener. I was worried the sprayer for the condenser would be hard to access if it got clogged before getting a softener if I do. It looks perfectly great. I could pull that out in a few minutes and put it in CLR if I noticed a calcium build-up. I notice what looks like a tiny amount of calcium in the video but without knowing how hard or soft his water is it’s irrelevant. But great to see how accessible the sprayer is. I like that 7.8cu. ft. LG but the wash of the condenser looks like a waterfall, not a pressure wash, which might be good for reliability for people with hard water. Would be great if you could squeeze a go-pro in all the units with a light to show what happens in each one’s coil clean cycle.

Yes, I realize it makes more of a mess, but at least it’s out of the unit instead of spending hours with a brush and a vacuum cleaner and not getting as much of it out.
