i don't think i could have standed having braces without a waterpik! Especially at the beginning when all the food seemed to get wedged up in them SO bad. Every time i ate, i had to i run straight to the bathroom to use the waterpik because it was such a relief! It's hard to get used to though and i squirted myself in the face a few times lol
I have to use my Waterpik in the kitchen, because so much food comes out that it clogs my bathroom sink. Who knew that the garbage disposal would become part of my Waterpik routine?!
Tiffany McIntyre how many orthodontist have you discussed this with? It would be better to ask a dentist. Orthodontists specialize in straightening teeth. Dentists specialize in oral health. Waterpiks aren’t a replacement for flossing
Jamie Horwitz Orthodontists’ actually have the same training as dentists before they specialise in orthodontics, so I wouldn’t disregard an orthos opinion just because they “specialise in straightening teeth.”
MrsCasa according to the Mayo Clinic “A water pick can help remove food particles from your teeth and might help reduce bleeding and gum disease - but it isn't generally considered a substitute for brushing and flossing. It doesn't generally remove visible film and plaque on your teeth, but can aid in reduction of bacteria even below the gumline.”
I'm obsessed with oral health/microbiome. To date, I have not run across a single unsolicited article or unbiased study that proves traditional flossing any less "effective", vs putting herbal tonics, iodine, sea salt, baking soda, etc mixture into the water chamber of the waterpik for rinsing.
My mom got me a waterpik when I got braces but I thought to myself that it was useless because it didn't replace the flossing. Going to take my braces in a month but definitely going to be using the waterpik now, great video
I have that waterpik (sonic fusion) and the orthodontic tip is actually great. It works the same but it is more comfortable in the mouth. When I used to use the regular tip it was uncomfortable when I would hit it on my brackets. The tip being a brush on the orthodontic attachment eliminates that and makes it very comfortable.
Thank you for explaining. I will be getting braces very soon and purchased a water pic. My dentist has seen a great improvement in my dental health. Thanks for posting this.
Great video. i just started using the Waterpik Fusion 2.0 and I love how fresh and clean my mouth feels after using it. I set the water pressure on 8 and refill the tank which provides two tankfull's of losing each time I use it. Thanks for the great demonstration and review of the products.
I like the waterpik flosser and it’s very useful and nice for braces 😁 so much easier to floss with the wire. And add some mouthwash to the water and it’s a bubble bath in your mouth lol
Hi! I’d love to know how you treat patients with disabilities or those who are non-verbal. It seems to be a challenge for many families, including my own, on how to navigate this and I’d love to hear from an orthodontists perspective!
Hey! So heres my dilema 😂. So I use my waterpik in the morning and at night before I brush my teeth. I have braces and it’s super difficult to use traditional string floss because my teeth are constantly shifting and are tight, but I try to use traditional floss when I can and if it doesn’t hurt. My oral hygiene consists of is 1.Waterpik 2.Brush 3.Mouthwash and sometime 4. Floss . What do you guys think ? Any advice.
I just got braces on as well, but I've been using my waterpik but I have heard it's okay to just use the waterpik if flossing is too difficult with braces on!
@@ariannadanielleherrera1792 same i keep hearing mixed statements about whether or not water flossing replaces traditional flossing. kinda confused.. These past few days I've had braces, I usually just brush them really well, use this little pick thingy with bristles that my ortho gave me to remove food, and i try my hardest to floss but i CANT so i just give up, and then lastly i just do mouthwash. I have not purchased a waterpik yet but i am considering in doing so.
I have teeth that are too close together and hard to floss even with dental piks. Just got a waterflosser and my ortho said it’s fine to use exclusively rather than flossing traditional.
Prepare soft foods. And only take pain killers if the pain is unbearable. My orthodontist told me that. Because it's not only gonna be one time that you'll be in pain. I only take pain killers if "I'm squirming in pain".
Welcome back! Glad you are uploading videos again, I have a question for you, would be good if you answer it :) So I just got braces on like almost a month ago only on my front teeth, have an appointment this week for getting them for my bottom teeth too. The question is, I don't have brackets in my second molar teeth, and I'm wondering why is it like this, do you have an answer for this? Thank you if you answer.
@@MayMay-vi6ni No, I had no problems at all besides a molar teeth shifting towards my maxilla, so the dentist told braces would be a good opinion for it.
I bought the set that has the counter top and travel/portable flossers in 1 box. Love the flosser - but the motor is really loud in the countertop flosser. My top setting is 5. I tried a setting closer to 10 but found the force to be more than I wanted/needed.
I have the sonic fusion in white. Many complain that the flossing function is not as powerful as a waterpik, but what I found is that when you use the brushing and flossing sitting together it is just as powerful I don't use toothpaste when I do that, but later on I use the brush only setting with toothpaste
I just got my braces today and the soreness was so painful that I couldn't brush for the night and floss too. although it does hurt the pain will go away in a week and I'm excited for the outcome ! 😁
I been a general assistant for years ..and now I'm learning ortho my god its like a whole new world! I'm struggling. how long would you say it takes to train your assistant's ?
I. Just watched the video again and this time answered my previous question.Yes there is a brush/pikwith my Fusion Yippee!!! Thanks again.thinking of buying this waterpik for my five adult married children. We also have 16 grandchildren old enough to I use this product supervised🤙🤙🤙🦷🦷🦷🙇🏽♀️😲😲😲🤩🤩🤩
*PLEASE CONSIDER THIS QUESTION* In the video you said that the tips should be replaced every 6 months and there were 6 of them, so they'll work for 36 months (3 years)... But what should I do when they run out???
Vaijanti Singh you’re welcome! You can always use the product number and search amazon for them. I just searched “waterpik aquarius water flosser replacement tips” and came up with a lot of results
Thank you for this great video! I am getting braces at 34 because my teeth are too close to one another. I have 3 questions: 1. Should I floss with both interdental brushes and standard floss? Or does one sufilfice? 2. Is the water flosser helpful to quickly remove food from the braces? I will definitely not be able to take 30 extra minutes off at work to clean the braces after lunch. 3. This may be obvious, but still: is an electric toothbrush even an option when having braces? Looking forward to your reply! Thanks again!
I am not an expert but in my case an interdental brush helps becuase it manually removes junk from my gums and inbetween. A water flosser is a quick way but the problem with it is that it doesn't remove all of the food. And yes you can use an electric toothbrush, I would reccomend checking out his video about brushing
Can you make a video about white spots from braces and what is the best way to prevent - do they go away ? can they be professionally whitened away? and really the science behind them? I recently went on a store hunt for a Colgate Braces mouth wash product that a lot of reviews said it was good but it tasted so toxic i was angry i spent the $10.00-$12.00 on it. I switched back to ACTs braces rinse. - thanks
Can you please do a waterpic/waterflosser demo using disclosing tablet/liquid before and after? I can't find anything like that on any RU-vid channel. I am a skeptic and want to see proof that a stream of water actually loosens and removes plaque. An analogy would be washing the car with a strong stream of water only. The large pieces of dirt are washed away, but the small stuff is stuck somewhat to the car and requires scrubbing with a brush. Thanks
Yes, water flossers are really quite popular these days. So let me recommend this water flosser that I think will be great for you. Check out, the Oclean W10 a very amazing and affordable one!
Thank you. I will start recommending your video to my patients. One question. I feel that i would floss first to break up the plaque, then flush it out with the water pik, brush, rinse? I don't know. haha.
Can orthodontic treatment be done on teeth with gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis)? If gum disease developed due to overlapping teeth and hence improper cleaning over the time, what should be treated first- the overlap or the periodontal disease? Please make a video or reply to this comment. Please..
Hey doctor, your videos are really helpful. Thanks for all of this information. Can you please make a video about the treatment options for a gummy smile??
Well you shouldn’t rinse your mouth after you brushed your teeth because then all the fluoride is going to be rinsed out. So instead of using water you should use mouth wash. Also I feel like you should floss first and then brush so you can get all the food out that you flossed out.
I thought the whole purpose of Waterpik was to Replace string flossing.? Also, what is wrong with flossing Before brushing? It makes more sense to dislodge and clean out the contours of the teeth before brushing.
I just bought the new water pik sonic fusion 2.0 version as it comes with 5 or 8 tooth brush instead of those extra water pik that I probably don't ever use. The fusion 2.0 is the better buy for my preference. Which saves me time having to keep switching out the tooth brush and installing those water pik which is a cumbersome when i just want an all in one and get right to both brushing and water pik spraying at the same time or one or the other at my own descretion. Great design on the sonic-fusion 2.0 . My only wish is the designer design a bigger water reservoir for the fusion 2.0 to hold more water for longer duration usage. I missplace my old sonic electric toothbrush which i love it so much that I decided to uprade to this new sonic-fusion 2.0 as it has the built-in water pik on the toothbrush itself making it more convenience and not having to deal with multiple accessories switch out.
I know this is off topic but I’m thinking about getting braces, will they be able to fix my overbite? My lower teeth are totally covered by my upper they can’t be seen when I smile and my jaw is a little too far back. Will my jaw and teeth look healthy after braces or is surgery the only option for an overbite?
What if I use waterpik, then brush, waterpik again and then fluoridated mouthwash? I really hate flossing. Edit: Got my Waterpik. The manual says to aim at 90 degrees btw, not 45.
I have a loose back bracket my last one before the wisdom teeth but it's not moving of anything u feel or touch it and you know it's a tiny bit loose and I was just brushing my teeth is it an emergency?
Hmm I have braces but my ortho insists on using superfloss daily and doesn't rate water floss. But I really like that two in one watetpick n brush one tho..
WaterPik is really pricey here in Malaysia. I was wondering if buying a cheap water flosser would be recommended? I'm worried about the PSI of cheap water flossers being too high and damaging my gum and teeth. What is the minium and maxium PSI values for water flosser?
H20Floss cordless. If you lf for cordless water tank since bathroom has no corded electric. Coslus cordless 900ml water flosser or Apical life cordless 900ml water flosser the same thing!
Braces Explained Hi I’m Ryan and I really really want to be a dentist just wondering where can dentist work I really don’t want to have my own practice I’m not really an businessman
Although this is an old video I would like to respond for anyone still watching and reading the comments. What this video didn’t mention and most in the dentistry fields that fluorine kills off the good bacteria in the mouth. Without good bacteria there are more chances for tooth loss, gum disease, and other mouth issues. Yes, it is the good bacteria that keeps our mouth healthy, not fluorine toothpaste. Very rare do we hear anyone from the dentistry fields mention how much of a role good bacteria plays in our oral health. Second, some folks will avoid toothpaste with fluorine, but it’s in our drinking water too. Fluorine in our drinking may contribute to one of the following: acne and other skin problems, cardiovascular problems, including arteriosclerosis and arterial calcification, high blood pressure, myocardial damage, cardiac insufficiency, and heart failure, reproductive issues, such as lower fertility and early puberty in girls, thyroid dysfunction, conditions affecting the joints and bones, such as osteoarthritis, bone cancer, and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ),neurological problems, possibly leading to ADHD. Note: In 1945, Grand Rapids, Mich., became the first city to fluoridate its water. So, why is fluorine toothpaste promoted by most dentistries and approved from the FDA? It’s a trillion dollars business. This is not to say all of those in the field of dentistry are well aware the potential harm fluoridate water and fluorine toothpaste can cause, its how the educational system has drilled it into their heads there are no health risks with this poison -$$$. If you want to save your good bacteria that prevents the bad bacteria from harm, stay away from fluorine toothpaste. If you want to avoid chronic illnesses stay away from city water. And absolutely stay away from all types of sugars😎
They also keep on stating that water flossing cannot replace manual floss while ignoring all of the studies that show it is far superior to it! This makes me suspicious. To add to what you said, iodine is what will remove flouride from the body but it's not so simple to supplement. In fact, our teeth needs iodine for health but you will never hear Dentists mention that.

@@idk9594 I replied with a floss that you should get, but it keeps getting deleted. Sorry that I can't help you because comment gets erased seconds after posting.
I have never been able to stand having toothpaste in my mouth - it's a texture thing. Is mouthwash with fluoride a good substitute for getting the fluoride on my teeth?
It’s not so bad.. the first few days are the worst, but you really do forget about them. For me, it wasnt so much pain as it was a lot of irritation on my gums! I would definitely recommend getting some Orajel, because advil/ibuprofen didn’t really work for me.
Don't be scared. I've had mine for only a month and it's not that bad. The first few days after you get them on will be uncomfortable and it might hurt more depending on your pain tolerance. After that, it's really not that bad
Before i got my braces i drabj a lot of coffee and now my teeth are stained and i cant whiten them since i have brace so what toothpaste do you recommend for coffee stained teeth (I live in Australia and I can't find crest toothpaste
Don't use any whitening toothpaste during your treatment, Trust me my friend did it and her teeth had squares all over them when her braces were removed. Just be patient or you 'll regret it
@@audreyhepburn2038 thanks I already know I'm getting twin blocks first and then traintracks but I'm kinda unpopular at school and I do musical theatre so I guess that's why I'm kinda worried but yeah I guess some braces look cool and when I get the ones I can customise I'm gonna get black and red.
twilight queen why don’t you get the clear ones? I don’t understand why people get metal. I’m an adult and hate seeing kids in metal it’s so horrible or them, they have enough to deal with, it’s not even much more money. I had Damien clear for five years and loved them!
