I sprained my ankle really bad at gymnastics again. It's been 5 weeks since I hurt myself. My ankle still is swollen and hurts if I move it too much. I can walk now and walking doesn't hurt my ankle. What hurts when I walk is the back of my ankle. I cannot have my heel on the ground and get my knee past my toes, which makes it difficult to walk down steps and impossible to jog. The first part of my ankle to swell up was behind the inside of my ankle. Usually when I hurt my ankle it's because I rolled them, but this time I heard an uncomfortable pop. Whenever I overdo it on my ankle the back of it starts cracking like the feeling you get when you crack your back. Do you think I hurt my Achilles' tendon as well as my ankle?
BTW, I went to the doctors the day after I hurt myself. The X-rays showed that I had a fracture on the outside of my ankle. They sent me home in a boot and crutches. Later that day we got a call from the radiologists and they said it was just a bad sprain. I didn't really think I hurt my achilles until after I started walking.
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. I would love to help. Maybe I can make a response video! Which way did the foot or ankle go when you sprained it? How have you sprained it in the past? Have you rested it or kept working out? Where is most of the pain when you walk? How long did you wear the boot? Have you been icing it? Thanks! I'll need more inform these questions to know for sure but usually when you hear or feel a pop, there is some sort of ligament or tendon trauma. The Achilles can get sprained along with the ankle, it all depends on some of the questions I asked. Talk soon!
Thank you for wanting to help!☺️ To answer your questions: I didn't get my feet underneath in time during a front handspring, so I hit my heel really hard into the ground. My ankle didn't twist or roll. In the past I sprained my ankle by rolling it inward while warming up at soccer practice. I rested for about a month, but I've been trying to swim and bike, because I hate sitting inside doing nothing. When I walk it hurts mostly directly behind my ankle. It hurts my heel as well. I wore the boot for 3 and a half weeks. I haven't been icing it recently, but I did ice it during the time that I couldn't walk. Hope this helps!
