My big, easy, closet cleanout this week with; How to declutter and organise your closet! Using the best, fastest, easiest method of decluttering clothes I have found! And, it's not Marie Kondo! Although I do like her way too often I find it takes too long and ends up putting me off the whole thing! We're going to declutter my wardrobe, all of my clothing, every item I own! It felt a bit overwhelming (and embarrassing!) but I got into it and it was worth the work because I feel so amazing havng finished it. All in the space of one day! Thank you so much for watching & keeping me company in this little corner of RU-vid. Love you all SOOO much, I really appreciate this community! Biggest, Softest, Everythings, Wendy. Xx

My problem with throwing out clothes is that they are increasingly getting hard to replace anything of quality, new clothes are 'fast fashion' and cheaply made, don't fit the same, and since I hate to go clothes shopping I hold on to things since everything seems to come back in style at some point! Just toss things that really don't fit or you just hate owning anymore, otherwise I keep it and find room!

Same for me; don’t want to go to stores and not find what I want, so I end up keeping things - but this year I gave away lots that I lost weight and can’t wear, but still have too much I don’t wear… sigh.
@katpaints

Oh, yes! I have lost quite a bit of weight a few times, kind of stabilizing for a while and then losing some more. Th time before, I got radical in getting rid of things and regretted it. I had a wonderful purple wool coat that was so warm in the winter and long enough to wear with dresses and boots. I love color! I went looking for a new one and discovered that there was nothing but black, above the knee lengths! I sew so taking my old purple would have been a bit tedious but doable! I don’t like the puffy look!

Totally agree about getting too radical and then regretting and everything costs So much! I am finding myself holding onto duplicates and things I like but don’t need at the moment. I often find myself needing that item within a year or so as something gets worn out or damaged.

Yes, I just pack them away and then rotate out the next season and it feels like I just found new clothes. I make my own clothes so it’s hard not to accumulate. In saying that, I probably have 4 times as much clothes as shown hear so I’d say I’m doing it wrong 😂

I'm always busy in the garden, or rearranging/decorating, taking on painting, sewing etc. So time to "posh" up my daily work clothes, make them cute and even elegant. Since I'm remote and I spend virtually all of my time in them. You can get paint on pretty things too. Seeing how you dress in your studio inspires me. Discard things I really have little need for.

I could probably get rid of most of my clothes because I am happiest in 3 long sleeve turtlenecks - black, brown and navy, and two pairs of jeans. I have a grey thick sweater and one warm pullover and that’s all I ever wear! I have loads of other things but I never wear them! 😹

Hi Wendy, I found this video great.🎉 I have moved so many times, & moved overseas, & moved twice in Germany. I feel like a gypsey gone wrong. Im so disorganised although I typically like to be organised. One important factor is having cupboards. I landed up moving to Germany. They do not have built in cupboards so getting organised has proven to be difficult for me where I am at now. When I moved from a hot country to Germany in 2019 I only came here with a suitcase of summer clothes. I thought I would return to my country on the other side of the world after 3 months. Well that didn't happen. Life had other plans so I stayed. My wardrobe was in my suitcase but not adequate for the climate. I didn't have loads of cash, so I found fleamarkets and second hand clothes shops to buy clothes. I also prefer second hand clothes to save the planet, unless there are specific items I need new. Like underwear, jeans or leggings. I have gained weight after going through the whole nightmare of menopause. I hated it because I didn't know what hit me. Mine started when I was in my late 30's. Far too young. Nobody warned me about menopause & the havoc it can create. Not everyone has a tough time, but I did. I was not a sickly person, I was always on the go with a very steessful corporate job. I also travelled alot. Getting brain fog was not conducive to having a high pressured job. I felt tired, irritable, my memory was affected, my moods, I felt depressed, had swollen joints, stored water, had hot flushes, felt I had reached burnout, etc. I went to every Doctor and tried to find natural medicine to help me. That didn't work. I took anti depressants. Stopped those quickly as I got Stephen Johnson Syndrome which is a side effect. Omg. I tried HRT. You name it. Personally I found that general practitions or Doctors were useless in understanding menopause & how a person feels "sick" but I call it hormone sickness. It is not like flu that you can get meds for and feel better in a week. Menopause starts and can take years to unfold as the hormones & chemicals in our bodies go haywire. Fortunately I am over menopause as in I don't have hot flushes anymore, etc. I am normally a person who feels the cold but when I had those hot flushes I slept with a fan ontop of me. Thank goodness that is over. And I am not taking any pharmaceutical medicines. I could do with vitamins. Yes, I did gain weight. Sometimes if I am under severe stress I go down 2 dress sizes. Then it creeps back up. I changed my lifestyle. I don't work in a stressful corporate job anymore. That took time to get used to. I still find myself buying a dress that I think would be perfect for work. 😂 Finding out what one loves & feels passionate about in life helps when we change. Creating a beautiful bedroom is very important to feel cozy, supported & comfortable when you are feeling like you need a safe space & sanctuary really helps. Wearing clothes that are still pretty but very comfortable become more important than fast fashion. Comfort is everything. Well done for tackling your clothes the way you did. Everything looks lovely. You have some beautiful dresses. I love the floral hat boxes and clothes rail. I would recommend, as a tip, that if one is buying a nice clothes rail to organise on, try to get a high one that you can hang long dresses clear off the gound. I had a clothes business ontop of my corporate job. Using a tall rail helps with those long items you don't want dragging on the ground. Im going to use your tips. But I am going to start with everything that doesn't fit me and part with those. Then I will tackle everything I love and will wear and order those. Then the not sure. Thank you for helping us with your great tips. Be happy, big hugs Janine

Funny translation. In Canada we call dungeries bib overalls. Instead of embarrassed we should be proud of keeping clothes for a long time. I live on a farm and spend very little on clothing. I am also an artist and have most clothes with paint . I like leaving a small foot print. Proud of your clothes selection tells a lot about you. Nice that you are real .

I'm like you! I don't follow trends or fashions. I buy what suits me and hold on to it for dear life. I have a mixture of paint-splattered clothes, well-kept everyday stuff and nicer stuff. But I'd rather be this way than constantly changing my wardrobe and replacing my clothes regularly. Yes! Be proud! Greetings from Australia ❤

Hello Wendy 👋 first of all I love your accent! My dear Maternal Grandad was English ❤ and I still miss him even after 37 years 💔 we were very close. I digress...thank you for this post on decluttering your wardrobe. Re: perimenopause and menopause tbh I don't remember much about it except mood swings and migraines (horrible ugh!), weight gain and skin conditions. Whoever said PMS symptoms went away at this stage of life they are lying...sorry. am I the only one? Re: clothing...I personally never really followed fashion or bought fast fashion and anyways I tended to frequent charity shops and vintage clothing boutiques (especially when I was younger). I prefer to spend good money on footwear, always. Because they tend to last longer. I actually did declutter my wardrobe not so long ago only to fill it up again lol 😄🤭 I am moving soon to live nearer the sea so will need to slim down my wardrobe again. So I want to thank you for spurring me on and giving me a gentle kick up the backside hahaha...love your channel Wendy ❤

Love your words ..."a re-friending of January".❤ This is a wonderful and much appreciated video Wendy! I too have never been a minimalist with my clothes. They are like beautiful crafted pieces of architecture, each one! I was so happy to be in my teenage and young 20's during 60' and 70's. I was wearing the long skirt gypsy boho apparel straight out of high school in 1968. I made a lot of my clothes and found everything else in the 2nd hand shops. Yes, I'm sentimental, to a fault. I still have some of those very clothes that I wore as a young woman aged18 to 25. They will never fit me again and I can't bear to let them go.😕 One of those items of clothing, no doubt, saw Janis Joplin perform in a small venue, in a sleepy little town, in the hills north of San Francisco, circa 1969. They represent a charmed time in my life.🌟 So, I keep them to get a visceral memory-hit, now and then, when I touch and see them🌈 I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blue dress! 💙Wow, it's a classic beauty!! I have a weakness for textiles, patterns, colors, and textures and how they are combined. I was silently hoping you were going to show us the beautiful patterns on your dresses.😊 Oh, just to mention... your sweater cardigans, (jumpers as you call them) the ones that you like for around the house and studio...you mentioned how they are of good use for those having the peri and menopausal experience. Good warmy's that can come on and off quickly as our inner thermostat goes a little wonky on us!🙃 Well, at the ripe age of 72 and having had my last mensus at the age of 51- 52, I'm here to share that, the wonky thermostat is not a passing thing.☹ So, us post menopausal's are a part of the mix....we also love to slip those clothes on and off quickly, depending on how the inner furnace is working!😄 I have mine laying around, within reach! Just as you were saying...I also find that comfortable, unrestraining, clothes, the ones that make you feel completely at ease, are the only clothes worth wearing! I too have night shirts, well loved, softy-soft ones that have holes in them.😊 This was certainly a delight going through your clothes with you! ❤🤩 Thank you for being so vulnerable with us. I see that there are a lot of us Gypsy girls out here, and some not gypsy-girls, (all good) that just love you Wendy, and always delight at the opportunity to spend time with you. 😍😘 Have a blessed New Year, you and darling James, and again, thank you for another year of keeping me company with your delightful and interesting content! Warmest aloha from the islands where my light is shining bright!💛🕯🌟🌞💛🙋‍♀️💛🌞🌟🕯💛

I have 2 dressers/bureaus, and one is for summer clothes, the other for winter. Hanged clothing in the closet is my "out in the world" clothing. As my body shape changed after menopause, I changed the way I dressed drastically, but I love it because it's my "I don't care what people think" time of life. I'm eccentric. I have lovely old fashioned pajamas, and "dresses" that are more like long sweaters/jumpers that I wear at home during the day. When I leave the house, I fancy up a bit because it's rare I get to show off the fabulous vintage thrifted fashion I collected over years. I also am saving my daughter's grandmother's clothes from Egypt for when she's ready to decide what to do with them. I do admit to wearing her caftans from time to time. 🧿 Exercise clothing is for exercise only. I've bought 5-7 of everything so that I'm only doing laundry weekly. I wear nothing that doesn't make me happy and comfortable! Love you, Wendy! Good on you! ✨

I was in the US Air Force in my early 20s and when I got out, I realized that I loved the idea of a uniform. I had seasonal choices, but my reality was that I wore the same thing every working day. In the early 70s, it was easy to transition to jeans and t-shirts and skirts and shirts, depending on where I was working. My frustration over the years has been getting things that were nicer! Now that I am in my 70s, I have a lot of clothes, but they aren’t really fun! Time to keep that in mind while I do my own sorting!

Putting away the christmas stuff and having blank spaces is always a starting point for me to do spring cleaning and decluttering through ALL corners and cupboards in my flat. I don't have much things because I am in the decluttering process for years now, but I still find once in a year there is so much chaos built up in the house to fight against a whole mess. I get sick when I see cluttered areas and so it is vital for me to keep on the cleaning path all year. It's such a relief!

I actually find it easier to declutter my wardrobe the older I get. I found my style and my comfort zone and there is no need to hang on to things that I don't wear - no matter how much I like them "theoreticly". I found a local charity shop where they sell good quality clothes at a very, very low price to locals who don't have much money. In our city we have a passport for people who are dependent on social welfare and only those get to buy there and they also get lower or no fees at certain facilities like swimming pools, libraries or museums etc. So I know my good clothes go to someone who could otherwise not afford them. This makes me happy and keeps my wardrobe at bay... What I took from watching Mari Kondo was the way she stored things. So I see at one glance what I really got and I actually wear it. Or give it away since I notice there are things that I go around every time I open that drawer.

This video is so inspiring! Ive been telling myself to do a closet clear out since I became perimenopausal and started hot flushes, after being cold for most of my life. This method is so straightforward, and seems so doable, and as you said, takes away the endless decisions about each clothing article. I used to dress up more often, but now spend most of my time in exercise clothing or casual T-shirts and yoga pants or jeans, with a cardigan or jumper available for temperature regulation. I have a feeling that my wardrobe will be shrinking significantly this week, and that i will be enjoying instead of dreading looking into it. You must be feeling so good about tackling this - congratulations! What a great start to the year, and this counts as a big self-care thumbs up! Gold stars earned always help push away the winter blues - as do "playing dress-up" and discovering those new outfits and clothing combos. What a wonderful part of nesting and getting comfy in your new home. Sending lots of love and light.

I feel you :D I’m not yet anywhere near menopause but I looove comfort, my love is velvet and corduroy. I solved this problem of not wanting to throw the fancy clothes out but also not wanting to see them every day collecting dust in my wardrobe by putting them in dressing up treasure box. My fancy stuff doesn’t live with my daily clothes, so when I feel like choosing a different style I get my box out and dress up like in childhood. It feels amazing and somehow a little like they are not even my clothes

This video is so timely for me. I've been wanting to reorganize my clothes but it felt overwhelming. Some methods I've seen just seemed overly complicated. I really love the method you used because it's simple and a really smart use of time and energy. I have ME/CFS and fibromyalgia so pacing and using what energy I have wisely is essential. The fact that I can use this to straighten out other areas of my home makes it even better. I have been concentrating on my health for awhile so things have gotten a bit out of control so now I'm trying to make things easier by reorganizing starting with my wardrobe. Being post-menopausal and having my health condition, I do wear a sweater because I'm either cold or too warm. My wardrobe is all about comfort these days - leggings or jeans with soft tops mostly. For sleep it's usually capri leggings and either a T-shirt or sweatshirt depending on season. Thanks so much for this idea and motivation. Much love and hugs to you and James. 💖🤗🤗🤗

What has been a lifesaver to me for temperature swings of menopause and fibromyalgia is to wear a 36" or so square silk scarf (or cowboy style "silk rag") folded into a triangle and rolled and wrapped or tied. So easy to tear off for hot flashes, and so quickly warming when I feel a chill. I have half a dozen different colors in my drawer, and couldn't get along without them.

Thanks for sharing it was fun to watch someone else go through such a process as it's generally done away from watchful eyes. I have a thing for jumpers , not dresses as I can't say no to a comfy warm jumper of the right size and colour. I have made cushions out of some of them especially the arran knit ones as they look and feel so cosy on the couch during winter. But that is reaching its limit so now I have actually bite the bullet and let some of them go ....... time for coffee to think about this. Well done tackling one of the most difficult chores we can have if you like collecting comfy clothes or a certain style of clothing.

Thank you Wendy for sharing this process! I’m encouraged to try it. My goal is also simplicity and ease: get up, get dressed, go! The Marie Kondo thing didn’t work for me except for the suggestion to roll up clothes in drawers, rather than stack. I did that until the drawers got too full, so it’s a good time to purge and organize again. I live in a hot area of California, and sleep in light cotton dresses, which are torn up but I love them. During summer days I wear a skirt and t-shirt, with a funky apron (covered in paint), for creation time. My go-to action outfit around house and outside is tshirt, leggings, apron. I have bunions and have always despised shoes so am usually barefoot but sometimes have to wear them. Lightweight pair of sneakers for shopping, plastic clogs for quick garden forays, and heavy boots for outdoor work. I need some summer sandals. I’m off to help a family member pick up and organize their home before the housecleaner comes… Maybe tomorrow I can tackle my own clothing. Thanks again for your inspiration!

Well done my dear. I've been there with my move as well. I'll probably do another purge once I see what's going on with my weight. I've lost a lot since my fall/surgery/rehab last May, we'll see. My mom, God rest her soul, said she had uniforms. It made so much sense. She had her everyday clothes/outfits, special occasions stuff, etc. I find that I have my uinforms as well, everything has to be comfortable! I keep things I love and can fit into that I might not have 5 years ago. And yes we have our hang out in the house clothes, our hands in messy art or garden clothes, and so on. You did well and you're still moving in, setting up and organizing. Well done our fair lady, take a break and have another cup of tea.

So I hang them wet on the rolling bar & place a fan in front of the wet clothing. They dry really fast & then I put them away. I also found a use for it when I’m working on a large quilt. I drape it over the roll bar & pull it toward my chair & I can work on the quilt. Most of all take your time getting settled in. You have plenty of time. I moved into my dream forever home May of 2020. Best advice slow & steady one room at a time. Then start over & go back to the first room to decorate slowly with treasures. Happy settling in. I’ll be 45 in May 🤦‍♀️. We don’t go out, at least me because I feel more comfortable and safe at home (fyi I’m an introvert). I don’t have a lot of “fun” or outdoor clothes. The only outdoor clothes I have are shorts and plain tshirts which I wear only if I go out like running errands. Most of the time I wear 2 types of clothes 95% of the time: work uniform, and pajamas. Mondays-Fridays: work uniform, when I come home (6pm) I shower and wear my pjs. Weekends: I stay in my pjs if I don’t go out. If I don’t go out I shower and put on pjs (even if it’s 1pm). There’s 1% of the time 😂 that I would wear my “fun” clothes at home.

Generally I do a clear out twice a year. Out of season clothes go into a big carved camphor chest to be forgotten for 6 months. Because I rarely go out these days i only have a few besties hanging at the far end of the wardrobe. So I have rarely wear for special outings and always wear clothes which are increasingly nice and gorgeous but comfy. I do have quite a few cant wear at the moment that I save . Because of medications and my age my weight fluctuates quite a bit. Mostly I wear loose fit trousers mainly in black and have both winter and summer weight and also harem style summer bottoms. I do have some loose fitting winter corderoy and denim bottoms. My tops both winter and summer are colorful, hippie or oriental in style and some long open fronted sleeveless tops that I wear merinos under. Because I have osteo arthritis my tops need to be easy to get on and off. I dont wear sleeveless tops out anymore because my aged arms are not pretty but for unbearably hot summer days at home I have 4 balinese dresses that I live in. For extra warmth in winter I have a beautiful Indian embroidered wool wrap, two long coat cardigans one in red and the other in turquoise and two cashmire Turkish styled ponchos in burgandy and lighter reds. I have two because I bought one for my mother and when she died I saved it. I have a long black pleated skirt for powhiri (formal Maori occassions) and funerals and two gorgeous open fronted designer jackets. They have a hood collar and are shapely stretch fabric held in the front with stylish cardigan clips. One is a light turquoise and the other dark red and black spirally pattern. I wear 6 pairs of ankle boots in winter, that I bought ten years ago before I retired, in dark green, purple, black , red ,pink and brown leather or suede. I have a good pair of Adidas walking trainers, a pair of black leather tai chi shoes and many flat slip on summer shoes and sandals. All shoes and boots with heels have gone to the Salvation Army thrift shop. Any day clothes that fit but that I havent worn in a season go to the Salvation Army too. Being 75 and living at home most of the time has changed my style in that I wear more casual but pretty cloths rather than formal, professional clothes I use to wear. I am old fashioned in that I iron my clothes so I shy away from frilly trims.

So interesting to hear your categories and a different way to organize. I may need to try the always….My clothes are sorted by tops/pants (I have just one “overalls” but so comfy, as you said) skirts/sweaters and sweatshirts/jackets/dresses and suits- my biggest challenge is deciding what to do with my distinctly “business wear” tha t I never wear now. I could free up a ton of space in my closet but just can’t bring myself to part with those things. Watching his video again and focusing on the” wear now” might really help me. So thanks! I’ve been overhauling my sewing room/studio, revamping by what kind of projects I’m focusing on. The new year does provide such a nice bit of motivation……. Appreciate you and the “lightness” you put into all you do! 😃

I have learned that it's ok to be the way I am because it does bring me a lot of joy and it's part if my way of having a fun, happy and creative lifestyle (as long as I periodically go through and "clear out the chaff" if you will) Cheers! ❤

Dearest Wendy thank you for your inspiring video today. I’m finally Covid free after being sick before Christmas and New yrs too. Not 100%yet but getting there. I could relate so much with everything you shared and thought how brave you are for being transparent and sharing your thoughts and how you’ve spread this all out for us. I wrote the steps down and am going to use them as it will help me like so many others to sort. Save, purge… I cleaned out many of my work life clothes when I retired but it took me a couple of yrs to get to that point and have not done much since the n. Way overdue. I too have a set home uniform lol that I stick to and just last week thought to myself I needed to change the way I’m dressing at home and why just dress nicely when going somewhere. I think dressing in loose, clothing that is comfy is something that happens as we get older, when we are younger, working it’s all about “being fashionable, presentable, stylish”, maybe even making a good impression cause of what people might think or say but as I be gotten older 75 now, not so important but for my own self dressing in a manner that is me, not pleasing anyone else. Self awareness of what my comfort zone is for me to be happy… It was lovely to see your smiling face… the light in that bedroom allowed your light to really shine through. Have a magical week. Much love and hugs… it doesn’t matter how long it takes you to get stuff done just as long as you are happy. ❤❤❤

I am so with you on your thoughts about organizing! I've had a good clearing out of clothes and misc items to give to our local GoodWill thrift shop, just before Christmas. We have moved into a smaller house now since being retired, so space is limited, so the clearing out needed to happen. Yes to comfy clothing, at 66 years young, :) anything that is comfy makes me happy, if out and about I dress up a bit (nothing fancy, just put more together if you will), soon as I am home or back on with the comfy clothes! Yea! Keep up the great work with organizing and getting your new place together! Wish you and James all the best in 2024!! Sending hugs your way from across the pond, in Ohio!😊❤

This is going to be the year that I am ruthless, I’m getting older, I don’t need the clothes I’ve got and I don’t want to hoard stuff that my children will throw in a big skip as soon as I’m gone 🙈 you have inspired me to get started, I think the first part is the hardest then it must surely get easier.

I did what you did about four years ago when I moved and should probably do it again. I say that because most clothes just take up space. They are pretty and I like them, but like you, I do find myself wearing a lot of the same things over and over again. I'm not sure why! Are they my favorites? Most comfortable? I'm not sure what the reason is, but I get it. Your style reminds me so much of my mother. Please don't take it wrong. She dressed like you in her early 40s, maybe in her 30s, all the way up until I lost her. She always dressed youthful and fun. She wore the "dungarees" as you call them and stripe tops underneath. So when I see you dressed in something similar it's always comforting to me. She was very artistic too:-) 🧚‍♀

We are in sync this year, Wendy. I had just written in my planner to declutter my closet last week and when I saw your video decided to keep it in my to be watched because I knew I would need some inspiration midway. Sure enough, I got about a dozen things out to be rid of and it looked like I had taken nothing out at all and I started feeling overwhelmed. I have to do it in bits. I'm doing it a bit different. I determined before opening the door, which color season I am. Made a list of colors that look good on me and which ones do not. I then opened the door and realized most are in the do not look good color range. I like the colors, but I don't like how I feel in most of my clothes. I'm just realizing that this is going to be an enormous purge and a much needed one at that. Figuring out my colors eliminated a lot of decisions for me and I have to agree decision making can be exhausting. When I saw your favorite dress, I thought that was my favorite thing of yours as well. I was thinking, if I had a dress that made me feel like a million dollars when I wore it, I'd throw everything out (sell and donate) and look for second hand more of the same because I want to feel like a million bucks every day. That really gave me the idea to see if there is any one item in my closet that does that for me and I'm going to let it be my inspiration piece and just have it hanging on the door and compare each item to that in terms of how I feel. So although I'm not doing my declutter the way you did, I am certainly inspired by you. 🧚‍♂✨

I agree with the way that you do things. I think my wardrobe has evolved to reflect me rather than fashion trends, so it makes no sense to throw things out that I enjoy if they’re a bit small or the wrong season. I have just swapped out what was in my wardrobe with what’s in storage and it’s like I’m shopping in my own unique boutique store. I love to shrift items to, but I’ve learned to be very choosy about types of fabrics, cuts and colours, etc.

I do this as well but a little bit differently: every few month (usually when i run out of hanger when I do laundry-i buy cheap ones and the handles breaks) i put in a basket at the bottom of my closet everything that I haven't wear in a while ... I put a reminder in my calendar and i can take anything back if i want... After a month, i pack it in a box, put the date on and after 6/8/10 month i open it and see if they are things that I am gonna miss, that have to much memory or if they're just not the right size... I keep a few of the items, and get rid of the rest. I especially keep the not the right size in a different box with a date as well, because after a few years even if I like them, there's no point on keeping those... They could be waiting for me to get thinner for decades there... And if i do get thinner someday, I would treat myself and go thrift shopping!

Wendy that was very motivational! I have way too many clothes, I know it. I love colorful skirts and dresses and I have so many. I Marie Kondo’d my clothes in 2019 and didn’t get to any other household areas. I donated so much but still have a lot of clothes, plus tight things and loose things, and skinny things in a box… Our newish home has his-and-her closets, and mine is the size of most peoples bedrooms- 8x10 feet. And the rails on two sides are full. I really like to dress by mood and like a lot of options. But many things don’t quite work or need an alteration that I never do. So thank you for the inspiration! It’s fun to see other people’s process.

I’m 67 and like you my main goal is comfort. In the winter I mainly wear cotton smock dresses with a black base layer and a cardigan and woollen scarf, this looks good with boots and a warm coat. The best way I have found for cleaning a closet is to put everything on hangers. If it can be hung, it goes into a dresser. Shoes on a shelf, bags on an over the door hanger with hooks. Also if it doesn't fit in the closet, it goes to a charity shop.
