+MetalJesusRocks That's awesome. Good job by you guys! The only games I have more than one copy of are the Halo games. I have used more than one copy for LAN a few times, but mostly I have sealed copies because I just love the franchise. Other than that I have very few doubles, a few Collector's Editions.

I use spinning media towers that fit longboxed cases perfectly, and I keep the disks in a binder for easy access.The towers are made by Atlantic media products, and you build them yourself. You may have to search online for them now, but they are a classy way to store Sega Saturn and other longboxed cases.

I have a really weird way of organizing my Games, Movies, and Records. I kinda do it all where it's like "these two seem like they would probably be good friends." It almost ends up being by genre, but it's more where I see them in relation to one another.

For storing/collecting games, i think the following things are good to try: 1. Drawers, especially for games that you want to hide (some people are like that with certain games) 2. Boxes, you can cut the flaps off the ones that are a good fit for specific sized game cases or carts. Can make it easy to reconfigure if you aren't satisfied or your collection grows. You can use the flaps as supports for the middles of the longer boxes if it bows in the middle as well. 3. Home Depot, seriously if you have some craftsmanship, you can make any size, depth and height and in the long run it can save money 4. 12 pack soda cases, these fit Sega carts pretty well. Looks kinda cheap but simple solution for organization in a hurry or lack of supplies. You can cut the tops off and sit them sideways if needed.

I like the group by genre idea, just like an old rental video store, only it's by genre, then by a-z. Some of my collection is grouped by favourite game at the top of the pile for easier access. And also games I need to play or currently playing at the top of the pile for my most modern console.
@yorgle11

I use track shelving. It's both strong and adjustable, and it looks nicer to me than a mass manufactured cabinet. I've found that Rubbermaid Twin Track, Project Source Dual Track (Lowe's), and ClosetMaid all have compatible shelf brackets. The Lowe's Project Source brand has 6.5" shelf brackets which are a good fit for a game shelf (though under 6" would be better). Rubbermaid used to have brackets that size but discontinued them - but the Project Source brackets are the same as the Rubbermaid so it doesn't matter. They don't seem to come in black - but a can of spray paint will fix that. I sorted my Genesis games in a weird continuum - each game is similar to the one next to it, and they gradually flow through genres that are similar to each other. NES games are the best looking loose carts, I love how they look lined up together. I have them alphabetical but might re-sort them by publisher. It gets a little messy when related systems that I think belong together don't fit on the same shelves with each other - like Sega CD, boxed Genesis/SMS, and loose Genesis/SMS are all different sizes, PS2 games are taller than PS1 games, and PC games are all over the place in size and shape. Loose Genesis, SNES, N64, Famicom, and Atari carts are messy. They might end up on a shelf together just because of size. Up to now they're in little stacks everywhere.

MJR loving your channel. An Everdrive is the way to go rather than having multiple copies IMO. All my N64, Snes and Nes games are in boxes and it's so much easier having the games on a SD card where I can play them without opening up the boxes. I always try to buy music on vinyl but it's cool to have it on mp3 as well

Sorting by genre is pretty cool. I usually do alphabetical order to keep things simple, but sequels and prequels are stuck together. My biggest issue I have are games that start with "the". For example, the sims. Do I file it under T or under S?

I'm the same with CIB games .I hate having to move the carboard to get the card and I hate leaving them out of the box . Having them on a flash cart doesn't have the same ritualistic feel of putting the cart in so for games I like to re-play a lot I have two copies or I stay away from CIB . it's weird

I got a copy of TES IV Oblivion GOTY for the Xbox 360 for $5 in brand new condition. It wasn't sealed but the discs are flawless, the manual and case are flawless, and it even still has the game map included and it's flawless. On topic though, I always alphabetize my games on my shelf. It just makes sense.
@CheffBryan
@CheffBryan 7 лет назад
I just keep all of the carts for my CIBs on display, right next to the boxes. All the duplicates are usually given to close friends and family that value them for what they are.
@orbitori1572
@orbitori1572 6 лет назад
i always collect CIB games (very small Collection). And every Box is in a Protector and when i will play a game it was too laborious to put the protector away and take the Cardridge or CD/DVD out of the Box. So i store the Cardridge or DVD seperatly without the box. Now are the Cardridges in the CardridgeProtectors and i can play a game without damaging the boxes, the dvd/cd's are in cases. For me the best solution

If I have a loose copy of a game and then happen to run across a boxed copy of that same game, I will buy it if it's a reasonable price to improve my collection. I then will sell the loose copy at a later time. For disc games they must be in their original case, I hate loose disc games. By the way, love the videos with Reggie. He is really cool.

if you stack your games, then putting it back is hard. either build custom shelving that allows storing on edge (like books in a library), or but the atlantic oskar 1080 with adjustable shelves. my atari 800 carts, with the horrible "left cart" end label, I built custom shelves to display them face forward.

I'd love to hear ideas for displaying classic game magazines (and the posters which came with them), such as Nintendo Power and Retro Gamer, and strategy guides. With hundreds of issues, my bookshelves just can't take the weight, plus they take up a considerable amount of space. I'd like to display the covers, not just the spines.

The big question is where do you put your odd games. Like some oddly shaped Famicom carts or Japanese Game Cube games. They don't go well with my European Game Cube games at all. They are these tiny plastic cases without cover art and with a paper slip case instead. Jebus who came up with those.
@LeBossu77
@LeBossu77 8 лет назад
I don't like to stack my games for that exact reason, I much prefer to have them in a row on the shelf so I can access them easily and put them back without any hassle. It doesn't make shelves that easy to configure though, you might end up with a lot of dead space because they don't fit standing up. I go with alphabetical order as well, I've tried genre order but there were too many crossovers, things got confused....

I am very against the fact of owning several copies of the same game, cause you ruin the chance of someone else being able to play that game also it sorta becomes hoarding especially if its a rare game, I used to hang out with this guy before and he had six CIB copies of mr gimmick which really annoyed me and yes I live in scandinavia.
@gozinta82
@gozinta82 8 лет назад
+alexflamess That would annoy me too. Having an extra copy from a box buy or trade or something is understandable. Holding onto a bunch doesn't sit well with me. I totally agree and think they should be shared :)
@overlordalfredo
@overlordalfredo 7 лет назад
alexflamess *I agree!* Having multiple copies prevents other people from getting to own the game. Maybe You are looking for a better condition version of your game (like CiB vs cart only) and you gonna trade the obsolete one afterwads, but generally imo there are only 2 cases you might get a second copy. 1. You have a extremely sensitive collectible but you want to play it. So you have the maybe sealed paper box version and get one solo cart mediocre condition dupicate you take if you feel like playing the game. Should only be done in really rare cases and only for special games. Definetely not for every game! 2. You need more copies of the game to play it in Multiplayer mode. e.g. if you have a GameBoy game that will need 2 GBs and 2 carts to play in MP than you might get another solo cart copy of that game. *But having more than 2 copies of a complete or boxed version, especially for rare ones, is nothing more than pure greed!*
@nickguy6820
@nickguy6820 7 лет назад
I dunno. I've considered doubling up on my CD/DVD games, just because all it takes is one accident to render it unplayable. If I did that, I would totally go for loose discs in "acceptable" condition to minimize cost and competition with collectors. If it could be re-surfaced to playable condition, I would drop it in a CD binder and that would be good enough for me. Anything better and I'd be afraid to touch it again anyway. ;-)

Am I the only one that organizes mine by order of how much I like them? Like my own personal top 100. I do a combination of genre and personal favorites with my least favorite games to the right and my most favorite to the left. I do this with my movies and books as well. And I always leave room to display my rarest and/or most favorite face first within the cabinet. With maybe some I don’t care too much for behind those. I also remove the discs and put them in a disc folder (which is organized by genre and alphabetized) so no need to ever go to the cases which eliminates the problem of finding games.

For my ps2 games, if i value one enough, i get a duplicate. the better condition one ends up in a white case with the manual, and stored away in a cool dry place where theres no extreme conditioning, then the lesser conditioned one retains whatever case, with the less quality manual (if i have more than one), and thats in my stack of games of my collection available for anyone to see atop my shelves, while my better copies in the white cases rest easy out of harms way

I collect many kinds of mediums including games, like books, comics, cartoons etc, so I'm considdering having kinda a library when I move to a bigger place where it goes alphabetical. Game Art-Book Soundtrack Anime-Adaption Manga-Adaption for example, and having collectibles like figures, pocketwatches etc. Behind glass in the middle of the bookshelf. My Tales of series collection is pretty huge now so it can almost have a shelf of it's own. The Zelda, Digimon,and Mario collections too probably…

I have about 600 nes games and I have finally decided to alphabetize them. Before, I was keeping the games I’ve cleaned separate from the ones I haven’t cleaned yet. But the collection got out of hand and now I only clean the valuable ones or if I decide to play one that is dirty I’d clean it before I pop it in the system. I can’t believe it took my 6 whole hours to sort. Keeping it all alphabetized definitely makes me appreciate the collection more cuz when I’d add another game to collection when it’s not organIzed its like: “Okay I’ll just add it to the pile of madness.”

I am by no means a hardcore game collector but I split up all my games by console and then sort those in alphabetical. I think its a no brainer to have them set up lying vertically on a shelf because, as metal jesus said, if you have them horizontal you have to lift the entire stack to put a game back. As for collector copies, all the games on my shelves are my playing copies. However, I display some of the games I really love like Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid separately. For those two series, I have hd collections which is what I actually use to play them and have the original releases on display.

I organize games by System, then alphabetical, then series in chronological order. So in my GC section, It's Resident Evil 0, then Resident Evil. Or say have Gears of War Judgment, before Gears 1,2,&3 in my 360 section. But I if there are numbered then I'd have them in that order like MGS2 then 3, even though 3 takes place in the storyline before 2.

I love to have my PS2 collection organized by release date =).. It gives me little more work to find some specific title sometimes but it's like a game as well! =P But seriously that gives me a most precise knowledge about the PS2 history. And i do that because abphabetical order it's too much standart nowadays. Great question indeed!
