I gave a friend a Moringa sapling and she lives in North Texas. I told her to keep it in a pot and move it inside in the autumn and to prune it. She planted it outside. It grew and made it through two winters. The third winter killed it. She didn't mulch it or wrap it.

Thanks so much for this video. Im trying to grow 2 Moringa trees in Ojai, CA. I'm told they don't do well here but I'm persisting. I lived with Moringa in Oman and learned how amazing it is. I believe that I can keep these guys going here in the valley. Last winter was a bit rough on them. In pots so far. I LOVE my Moringa trees.

Try a tall narrow wheeled trash can, with a single layer of empty water bottles on bottom, and a cardboard cylinder in the middle for sandy soil, then more water bottles on the outside of the cylinder for bulk and to reduce the overall weight of the container. That allows for a deep tap root without making the container too heavy to move inside when frost is forecast. The cardboard will decompose, but allows you to fill the outer volume with lighter weight material. Leave the lids on the empty bottles.

In Tamil Nadu, a state in India, this is called Murungai (Moringa is derived from Murungai in Tamil language). It is a house tree and almost all the houses will have this tree in the backyard. It withstand heat and can do well with less water. It is very nutritious. We sauté it with onions and green chilli peppers, salt in some raw sesame oil. It is eaten as a side for rice. It tastes amazing sautéed. We also add the leaves to curries, soups and dosa(rice crepes). But juicing and powders seems to great as well. The drumstick pod, flowers are also edible. Drumstick(moringa fruit pod) is delicious staple in a south Indian lentil curry called Sambar. It is very cheap and nutritious!

The moringa tree is a tropical plant. Here in Indonesia, we have many. We usually make the moringa leaves into delicious clear soup, with the ingredients being only water, some sugar and salt, sweet corn, shallot, garlic and fingerroot (a kind of medicine plant like ginger, called boesenbergia rotunda in Latin). Here, moringa leaves are eaten by children to cure lack of vitamins and minerals. The moringa branches with leaves are also used to expel black magic, genies and demons here. We do not treat the moringa tree as something valuable.

what an amazing video, full of information. Just bought some Moringa so am researching best way to use it. juicing is the way to go. Your video was so informative on everything I now want to grow it myself. I lasted the whole video which being a right brain I don't normally, so was most impressed with the knowledge you shared and how you tried to cover everything. I appreciated it, especially as it's free information, those that leave rude comments are the negative side of life, who don't appreciate the time you took to do this, as your time is valuable, instead of them just being well mannered and asking what they need to know. Keep it up, I have subscribed to your channel to learn about other greens. I love green salads, juices etc. Wish life was more simple with non insecticide plants though. I am not in stable place long enough to grow my own You are amazing with your knowledge, well done. the amount of time put in to learn all this is priceless.

Wanted to thank you as well for influencing us to move to Hawaii and Homestead (its been a rough couple years having started with a very small nestegg) a lot of hard labor has got me to a good place to begin over and live a much healthier lifestyle. The starting over from scratch was a little too much for my ex-gf, unfortunately I'm on my own for now, but there is lots of hope here, I do have a few big dogs, finally have a small house built, a few greenhouses, lots of good soil on property for beds, and a leaner stronger body and mind, and most importantly, Hope and a Positive attitude which was missing from my previous life....so THANK YOU, you've helped and inspired me more than you will ever know.

Hi John! I'm Fe Bare from the Philippines. Just sharing that the moringa tree is malunggay here..and we use the leaves in cooking for our meals like adding coconut milk or adding it in meat or making soups out of it. I think you are a filipino too.thanks:-)

Excellent Moringga info.. thanks so much, John! .. I've been eating Moringga since I was a kid intermittently but regularly almost everyday in the last 2 years, thanks to the pandemic, I had to seek alternative activities to keep myself 'sane' hehe .. there's unlimited Free Moringga where I live now but eventually I will plant all (I have started w/ 3 trees) of the Moringga that I need. Since I was a kid, Moringga has been considered medicinal where I live. When we get bruises, we chop up some Moringga leaves and slap it on the bruise even if it's an open wound for a few hours. I love Moringga-- it's a super food/medicine alternative for some ailments! .. appreciate your Moringga podcasts! Thank you so much 🙏

I am in zone 8 & grew my moringa for three years b4 it grew its seeds. When I would harvest the leaves & dry them they were much greener than the store bought moringa powder.

Thank you John- truly enlightening! Have you heard of Moringa leaf sambol? well, it's eaten in Sri lanka-: use a freshly washed bunch of Moringa leaves, blended with either desiccated or freshly grated coconut, a squirt of fish sauce[ to emulate the dry fish they use], lime juice, salt and shallots or raw onion, some raw garlic and some fresh green chilies. -blend into a semi- fine paste, and eat as an accompaniment with your main meals... you can also do the same for Gotu kola leaves, parsley, coriander leaves... or try blending some or all together, you may add a little sugar for taste- to balance it .-jolly delish!

Some people with high blood pressure take blood thinners but this vegetable thickens the blood. I think it's best to ask your doctor.

In South India, the leaves are used as topping on 'pancake' called adai. Also, more commonly the drumstick is used in natvie "soup" called Sambar.
