I remember in the early days of youtube when I was young enough to wonder why people would upload videos with just audio and now I'm old enough to enjoy it
This is very minor and may not even register to most, but am I the only one who wants a "dark mode" version of the background image for The Weekly Planet? I know it's a podcast, and you listen to it more than you look at it, but as a listener who likes to have it on my TV, I sometimes wish it wasn't such a bright image with a white background.. just a minor gripe I have lol
@stevhen42Honestly Ryan and Margo as Gambit and Rogue is pitch perfect. Especially chemistry-wise. I know people want Keke Palmer as Rogue but I’m just putting it out there.
@lyndsaybrown8471 AI James counterunionized and since he's so smart he did it last year and got well-established with all of the officials and their families already. Vote AI James he's 150% more James than Human James, and he comes with Nickbot.
The Matrix 4 elevated the franchise while also being a bad movie. In my opinion what elevates it is when Neo meets up with old lady Jada and he is sad that nothing has changed. But she says no, lots has actually changed and he tours the city and sees that machines are working with humans, the machine empire has crumbled due to the deal they made with humanity that is still intact and they're even trying to bring back things that were lost like plants and animals. It showed that there was a payoff for the first three movies and Neo's sacrifice in the end - he broke the cycle.
As soon as you said, "he is sad," I was expecting this to be a Blue Harvest joke. I appreciate the restraint. However, not a lot of people know this, but seeing the plants growing being the cure to Neo's depression actually led to the working title of the movie to be "Blue Harvest" which was also the working title of Star Wars.
@@concon09090 Lextorias made a video a couple years ago with that exact title. I haven't watched it, but youtube has recommended it to me a few times. Maybe that's ground zero?
@@concon09090It can be both, which is what’s so jarring about it. There’s no consistent tone. I get the sense that the Wachowskis had a great idea, but the studio execs wanted none of it. They just wanted the guy doing the thing and characters saying the thing. So one Wachowski bowed out due to frustration, and the other, she said “fuck it,” and crammed all the studio notes in there amongst the better story and didn’t care if they stuck out like a sore thumb.
One legacy sequel that's very conspicuously missing from the list: PSYCHO and PSYCHO II (and III), with 23 years between I and II, and of course with Anthony Perkins (and Vera Miles) resuming their original roles. Then, of course, there's the TV legacy, BATES MOTEL, with Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga.
I feel like more people under 30 have seen the Red Letter Media review of Psycho II than actually seen Psycho II. And I don't even know if people under 30 watch Red Letter Media.
Who knew Maso had the voice and register of an angel. Speaking of angels, I think the only real reason people are upset about this new Crow film is because they only know of the property through the Brandon Lee films. I grew up in the early-90's and loved the comic. I'm excited to see this new one.
The I don't give much of a toss about The Crow reboot looking -different-, I just think it looks BLAND. Dull colours, generic bad guy in suit, flat cinematography.
Guys, the Crow trailer is a cash grab for the John Wick dollars with little to none of the atmosphere, mood, or character that made the first The Crow movie so memorable. Every big male lead wants a hyper violent movie and studios want to cash in while they can.
Yeah I have never seen the original and have no nostalgia for it, but this new one looks so generic and the main guy looks like a loser. I like that the guys try not to fall into internet hate trains, but I also feel like they overcorrect and write people off as fanboys whenever they see people complaining about something even if it's deserved. I remember Mason even defending the Netflix Cowboy Bebop which is something I don't even think the actors would do at this point.
@@seanrowe6973 Yeah like even now people are complaining about set photos for Superman and how his costume and Guy Gardner’s look bad, which I don’t think they do, but we haven’t even seen them in the movie yet, they’re just set photos. People need to chill.
well, the budget for Deadpool Camoes can't be that much if it wasn't enough for Vinnie to suit up again. if they were giving a quarter of a million for a day's shooting there is no way he wouldn't have done it.
The main thing with a legacy sequel that isn't mentioned is the intent, in my opinion. Jurassic world, for example, was made with the intent of banking on nostalgia but they also still wanted it to be removed enough that it attracts new fans and doesn't alienate people by being a direct follow up. Same thing with Star Wars episode 7. That's what makes it a legacy sequel versus just a late sequel.
My dumb brain activates whenever I see a dinosaur so I actually really enjoyed all the Jurassic world movies 😂 can’t help it. Jurassic park is the first movie I have a memory of. Loved it ever since I was a child
A _legacy_ implies that there’s a whole new generation carrying the torch, and not necessarily the same characters continuing on new adventures. With that in mind, The Force Awakens is a perfect example of a legacy sequel, while a story like Top Gun Maverick isn’t really, since it’s continuing the story of Maverick directly.
I know they are just being goofy, but I would say Cobra Kai is less "forget about the past" and more "reexamine the past" and really think if you were as good or bad as you thought you were.
Have I already had my coffee? yes. am I willing to have a second cuppa while listening to the boys? also yes. why are my algorithm comments always about coffee? cause its liquid gold, baby, its liquid gold
I liked Damsel too. It's like a new take on the 80s fantasy film Dragonslayer, and done very well. I find Millie Bobby Brown's Netflix oeuvre to be well within my wheelhouse.
And think, it might never have happened if Mr Sunday hadn't been having an emotional breakdown at how stressful being a teacher was on a Melbourne tram one day.
I still want Danny Devito as Wolverine. And no, I don’t care that he’s 79 years old. I’m really hoping he’ll play a Wolverine variant in Wolverine & Asshole, but I doubt it’ll happen. Jokes aside, I actually want Henry Cavill to play Cyclops. He’s the perfect height and has the right physique, and it would nice to see a live-action Cyclops that’s jacked like in the comics, instead of a smaller actor that needs platform shoes like James Marsden in the original trilogy, or teenager version like in the reboot quadrilogy.
How dare you slag off on Scream 6. I was an extra in that movie. You can clearly see the back of my head in the restaurant scene at the beginning. This obviously elevates the movie to at least equal the previous five. Which I've never seen. In fact, I haven't seen 6 either, save for the part I'm in... and that, only because I didn't have to watch more than a couple of minutes in to catch it. But still...
I would say Obi-Wan is more of a Legacy Sequel than Star Wars Episode 7: Another Star Wars. Obi-Wan had a "previously on..." montage that made the prequels seem good. However, Episode 7 if you hadn't seen the other movies you would at least think it was original!
I’ve never seen either crow movie, but I just watched both trailers back to back and the new one looks noticeably worse in tone, visual style, and character. The RU-vid comments are right, it looks like another worse remake.
Idk if direct to video sequels ppl should be considered legacy sequels. I think legacy sequels, either realtime or movie time, should have a significant (years for sure) time passage. Also must tie loosely to any previous film (not direct continuation as that's a sequel). I just had a question pop up writing this...can a direct sequel to a movie have a legacy sequel and not just the original movie?
If you lads like listening to DnD realplay podcasts, there's one called rude tales of magic, the creator of Dr McNinja is one of the players. the DM is Branson Reese who does the Swanboy comic
There was going to be an Eternals 2? I thought they pretty much wrote that idea off after opening weekend of the first one. Ryan Gosling will be the recast of Kang and Danny DeVito as new Logan.
I recommend "I Came By" a Netflix movie. A solid film that probably slipped by everyone in 2022, probs due to the Rotten Tomatoes score, but I think its a good fresh take!
The Crow reboot looks bad. He looks like Jared Leto's Joker. It's a corny aesthetic from 2007. Looks like a John Wick movie, as well. Just, bleh... looks like it has zero heart which is what I loved about the comic and the movie.
@@imanoldurango8213 Christian Bale has a quote that he only did Thor because his kids desperately wanted to see dad in a comic book movie. I could definitely see him doing another Batman. He's even said if they can convince Chris Nolan to do a 4th Batman he'll be in it.
MELBOURNE CINEMA - THE ASTOR !!! Can't believe it's not mentioned sooner. It's the #1 coolest cinema in Melbourne. It's in st Kilda East on chapel St and Dandenong Rd near Windsor station. 70mm projector, mostly only celluloid screenings and only one gigantic screen. Super special place. Art Deco heaven.
The funny thing about them talking about Maso's first Superman comic is they had that same discussion in the 2016 Q and A and in both James wonders if it's like "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" I only listened to that Q and A for the first time this week so I just found the repetition of that really fascinating.
Hot take: I think the Force Awakens is actually perfect. Personally, I would have liked it to deviate from the OT more, but to be a success, it really had to be a retread on some level. The problem imo is what came AFTER. As the first movie in a rebooted legacy trilogy, TFA strikes an impressive balance of old and new that - if it had been properly built upon - would be remembered as one of the best Star Wars movies, I think.
I think you should have to make SOME kind of actual argument for Daniel Ritchman's credibility besides just saying his "strike record is pretty good". From all the Daniel Ritchman rumors I can personally remember, that isn't true at all.
Matrix Resurrections is absolutely fantastic and under-appreciated. Not intentional bad, genuinely great. Absolutely elevates the material. Surprised and disappointed you guys weren’t able to understand that. I didn’t see that coming. 😞
James and maso I finally have a fun fact for you guys there is a prison in Arizona they call slab city it’s in the middle of the desert and the prisoners live on a concrete slab and are forced to wear pink jail jumpers to emasculate them . Cheers lads .
