I have to thank you the fact that you DO take the time to explain even the simplest and basic concepts so even debutants can understand you. It is a HUGE added value to your videos, something missing in other RU-vidrs that are maybe for more experienced audience with the same high quality content but hard for some of us to follow. @Shorts Kittu Cats All the Jason in one thread! lol You can edit 4k on a 6700xt, it'll just take a long time compared with its' nVidia counterparts. AMD GPUs are a solid choice for gaming, but for productivity and multitasking, nVidia still has a significant advantage, apples to apples. Given nVidia's recent behavior, I don't blame anyone wanting to avoid them, but time is money after all.

I only just watched this having made my purchase 2 weeks ago (ASUS TUF Gaming plus WiFi) and pleased that you liked it. I went for this because I needed a decent motherboard to go with the 7900 that so impressed me at low power. If you're spending this much, I reckon the lower midrange is best and I don't mind paying an extra 10% for a fuller set of capability (even if I don't need it now), a nice look + I like ASUS boards. Glad you covered it and keep up the good stuff.

It's ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS especially with these x670e motherboards where the price is around $500 just for the motherboard and then $300 for the cheapest cpu. You can almost build a pretty decent PC ( as long as you're willing to buy a used gpu) for the same cost as the mobo and cpu. IT'S FU@KING RIDICULOUS

I wanted a mATX board and I didn't mind the high price since I'll keep this board through several generations of future AMD CPUs and it had all the enthusiast features I wanted in a compact form factor, such as USB4 and three M.2 slots. Honestly gr8 work u r doing. U made the explanation so much easy, I was getting more n more focussed in what u were saying. Keep it up. Btw, want to get ur opinion on a PC build that I wana do. I was originally planning to do a DDR4 build with 5900x for main use of running VMs, which would make it more affordable. But since Ryzen 7000 launched, which shows a lot of performace uplift, like crossing 5+ GHz, I literally got excited. But then I learned the bitter truth, that is, Expensive CPU + Expensive MOBO + Expensive RAM + Expensive SSD PCIe5. And since AMD mentioned only for it to be there till like late 2025, should I go with Ryzen 7000 or going with 5900x/64GB RAM DDR4/1TB SSD Gen 3, will have me covered for like next 10 years for mostly running VMs?
@PCBuilderChannel
@PCBuilderChannel Год назад
That's a great question. I think that 5900X build will be an absolutely beast. But you might want to wait a bit and see how the Ryzen 7000 performance numbers change when the next gen gpus become available next month. For more on that see the 7900X build we did on the channel. The launch of the new Intel CPUs and Black Friday will also likely affect Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 7000 pricing so it might not hurt to give it a few weeks and see what happens.

Yo watched this like 5 times and am a bit torn What's ur opinion on Asus Pro Art X670e vs the Asus Strix Gaming x670e-e? I'm building a new workhorse pc that is literally all purpose from 4k editing to high end VR gameplay and recording, streaming etc. I'm really torn between the 2. I don't need the 10gb lan but the usb 4 seems nice to have, the 16+2 power phase concerns me but I only plan on using the automatic overclocking features of the 7950x would this be enough? Full build should be 4090, 1300w psu, 32gb 6000 ddr5 and a 7950x. Only reason I passed on the asrock x670e tachi was the lack of the lower pcie lane but if you feel that would be a better option i'm still considering it! Any guidance would be appreciated!

Great video, thank you, but I'd like to hear/learn more about "audio codecs" on motherboard... How to know which ones are high quality and which ones are not, and what exactly is the purpose of "audio codec", what's that thing exactly, how can you use it, is it for headphones, speakers or what, etc... :)
@PCBuilderChannel
@PCBuilderChannel Год назад
On x670 it is pretty binary because there are no boards with "middle step" codecs like the ALC1100, ALC1200, etc. They are either entry level ones ALC897, or they immediately jump up to the best available (ALC1220 & ALC4080). I do expect we'll see some more of the middle step ones in B650 as board makers look to trim costs down a bit more. When we do the best motherboard for Ryzen 7000, we will do an audio section and go into codecs a little more in detail - just waiting for B650 to launch.

Picked up a 7700x with the free 32 gig ram promo from microcenter but waiting on boards. Getting a cheaper board with no PCIe5 or only 1 just does not seem to make much sense unless you plan on ripping out the board to replace it in the future. Features wise, as a content creator, I REALLY like the idea of the Asus Pro Art.... dual PCI-e 5 if I want to run dual gpus, more importantly for some fast NVMEs to work off of locally and transfers.... (each video I do is easily 100 to 200 gigs). And of course the idea of thunderbolt sounds great for color grading monitors and transferring files to either a DAS... OR 10 gig ethernet if transfering to a NAS... oh.... and it does not look like the neon/RGB fairy spit up all over it. lol. Yes, it's $500... but seems more like a "buy once, cry once" proposition for at least the next 5 years or so. with the cheaper boards... its like might as well have stayed on Ryzen 5000 and X570. =) And I am guessing the new Radeon cards coming out in November will be PCI-e 5.0.

I'd like to post some clarification surrounding USB4, USB-C and Thunderbolt, which is important for those creators depending on Thunderbolt devices. USB-C by itself is just a connector; it doesn't specify anything about what it should be capable of (well mostly). The comparison is actually between USB4 and USB3 (and all of its substandards, like 3.1, 3.2 gen1, 3.2 gen2, 3.2 gen2x2, 10gbps, 20gbps, 40gbps, DP, PD, etc.). One thing to mention is that the extra connectivity, like higher power delivery and displayport, are constrained to be possible only through USB-C. The dangerous thing is that USB4 is not Thunderbolt 4, despite them using the same connector type. While a Thunderbolt 4 port is backwards compatible as a USB4 port, it is not the same the other way around. Thunderbolt 4 by itself uses an entirely different protocol, but when you plug in an USB device, it basically functions as a USB4 port but with all substandards/connectivity included. A Thunderbolt port will need to have that lightning bolt symbol next to the port to indicate it being a Thunderbolt-capable port. At the moment of writing, only the ASRock X670E Taichi offers USB4+TB4 connectivity, and the Gigabyte Aero D that is not released yet (which will have USB4+TB3). The other X670(E) boards that have USB4 (which right now are from ASUS) do NOT support the Thunderbolt protocol. Most remaining ASUS, Gigabyte and ASRock boards have a thunderbolt pin-header, for which you must buy a brand specific add-in card (AiC) that will slot into a PCIe slot (which will probably need x8 PCIe4.0 lanes?) used to add USB4+TB4 connectivity. None of these AiCs have been released yet. However, that ASUS ProArt Creator motherboard recommended for creators in the video does not have a TB4 header, and will therefore never support Thunderbolt. So if you need Thunderbolt support (to connect devices using a Thunderbolt controller), get the ASRock X670E Taichi, wait for the Gigabyte Aero D, or get a motherboard that will have a USB4+TB4 AiC.

Personally I have done some upgrades of my desktop computers in the past but the main system I never changed, my first computer I did upgrade the memory once but I wouldn't do that now, I also upgraded the graphics card but that was only once, what I upgraded the most are my hard drives. I always find myself adding more hard drives at a later point. I'd recommend to get the best system you can buy for the budget, that is everything except for the graphics card and hard drives, just get the bare minimum hard drive space to run the OS on but get the best hard drive there is for the space that you need, get the best graphics card that you can buy for your budget but since you can always get a better graphics card later I'd have a higher priority for the core parts that you aren't going to upgrade later so I'd get a bit lesser GPU to start out and use the money for better core parts and buy the best GPU later if I have to. I've always built my system with future proofing in mind but the last couple times that I've built my systems I haven't upgraded anything except for more hard drive space, didn't need to upgrade the GPU or anything else and my latest system I'm using for about 10 years now, with the same hardware and I only added more hard drives. Now to keep up with the latest games I have to buy a complete new system so upgrading this old system doesn't make any sense and I think that most people do this, just keep that in mind when you buy a complete new system that the whole future proofing thing isn't really necessary and over the top and most likely you'll never even make use of it because by the time that those new hardware components are out you'll need to buy a complete new system anyways because you'll be using the old system for years and years already and it won't make sense to upgrade the old system anymore.

Hi Jason, awesome content as usual. I'm not an early adapter so I think I will me waiting AM5 out. Speaking of motherboards, I do need your opinion on something that involves previous gen CPUs. In late 2020 (just before prices went crazy), I built my first PC: Ryzen 5 3600 (cooled by a Deepcool Gammaxx 400 EX Air Cooler) coupled with a GTX 1660 Super on a Gigabyte b450m DS3H V2 Motherboard with Ripjaws V 16 GB (2x8) 3200MHz CL16. Initially, my storage was an XPG SX8200 Pro M.2 500GB and an old Toshiba 1TB hard drive. In 2021, I added a Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD. My original PSU was the Gigabyte P650 80 Plus Bronze, but got scared when news of the P750 variant blowing up and got the Corsair RM750 when it went on sale in my country 3 months ago. All these components are housed inside a RAKK ATX case with Arctic F12 Fans. I use the PC for work (basic MS office apps needed) and play AAA games (Halo Infinite, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, etc) and the occasional indie that is available on Xbox Game Pass. (whew, that was a lot of contexts there) So, my question: Are there any advantages in upgrading my MB to an ATX? I ask because the Asus ROG Strix B450-F Strix Gaming II ATX Motherboard got cheaper recently in my country and is selling for about 120 USD. I know that you recommend this MB along with Asus TUF B450 Pro, but unfortunately, the ATX version is not available in my country. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to the ROG Strix MB? Aesthetically, I do think it will look awesome in my ATX case, but I don’t think this reason is enough. I might have some need for the better audio codec in the future, but not at the moment. Viewing your video on MBs also taught me that ATX MBs provide better long-term durability (Before 2020, my last PC lasted me 8 years!). I know that the ROG Strix has better VRMs, but I don’t overclock at all. Help me save money! Part of me wants to push the button and just buy the new MB because I am getting the itchy finger and want to tinker with my PC (hahaha) but the other (more practical part) is thinking that, if this does not really give substantial upgrade in performance or durability, better control myself!

Optimum Tech has the answer to my question about changing the 95C thermal limit (see Fixing Ryzen 7000). In the BIOS under overclocking there's a configurable entry called "Platform Thermal Throttle Limit", on manual you can set a value thought it could affect performance as the cooler will disipate less heat. Using the Curve Optimizer to undervolt and setting a power limit can also be done to achieve "decent" behaviour with minimal sacrifice in performance or even a bump. It might be a nice way to run quiet on hot days interactively, without altering fan curves or tuning for performance when running heavy loads unattended.
