And we're back! Thank you for the wait everyone while I spent time restructuring the channel and develop many ideas that are planned to come soon and so I decided to hit hard and come with this long awaited Super Smash Bros Brawl video. Now being back, we plan to be back to a more consistent schedule again. Stay tuned!
Broken armor combined with damaged swords would have fit the gritty look of the game very well, I bet that they would have used that idea in Ultimate if the art style wasn't so cartoony
Olimar is the only one to briefly have a broken space helmet in Ultimate, you’ll likely never notice it in the heat of battle unless you have an Eagle Eye.
A brawl mod called T+(Project+ Tournament Addition) actually restores this feature. I think they cut it because it looks weird for your equipment to detoriate multiple times during a match
@@extreme5026Something to consider is that in 2008 the vast majority of people still had either crts or tvs that couldn't go higher than 480p You just wouldn't see it
I wonder why no one mentions that Castle Siege stage kinda did the whole stage morph first before we see it in Ultimate. Also I like how the Mario circuit resembles Figure-Eight Circuit from MK Ds
The cut "Forest Mushroom" was likely the Toadwood Forest theme from Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time as comes after the Partners In Time boss theme and tracks are organized chronologically in the file list.
That cut texture of a silhouette that roughly looks like mario might actually be used. At 13:50 you can see a texture being used for reflection that looks suspiciously like that texture
2:50 Another common (although slightly less popular) theory is that "Prai_Mai" was actually the random slot. As it can also apparently be translated to "Every Player" Edit: 6:22 I heard that this animation was actually reused in Smash 4 for when you missed Edit again: I love how that Assist Trophy/Boss idea was reused for Rathalos
Good ol' brawl. It was my first smash game and i always loved the subspace emmisary. Its been a good time. I still remember when i did nuzlocke of great maze buncha times heh...
@@TheObsessiveGamer i remember i had a set rules that i needed to follow. If i recall correctly, i couldnt heal my characters nor change the selected ones, only once i have last character left and its at least above 100% of damage i could change and heal them. So i used certain healing items that are given thorought the maze. Maxim tomato sticker on meta knight was a godsend. In fact, i remember pulling off an ENTIRE great maze on hard difficulty with JUST meta knight. He is that broken lol. Ofc if your char dies its gone.
8:00 With the battle damage mechanic in mind I personally theorize that when Link's master sword broke, it would be replaced with the Ordon Sword and it would probably make Link weaker but not sacrifing range like Marth and Ike may have
The only other Wii game I can think of that had impressive Graphics was Super Mario Galaxy, honestly some of the spectacles you see while flying is sick.
As someone who grew up with Melee and Brawl to then see how cartoony Smash 4 and Ultimate are, I can greatly appreciate Melee and Brawl’s models even more. Even Smash 64 has charm to it too.
27:45, call me crazy, but I feel this could tie into the Pokemon trainer. Seeing how Blastosie was originally planned to be in the game, and Sakurai wanted to focus on the evolution aspect of the Pokemon series (Squirtle being the first form, Ivysaur being the second form, and Charizard being the final form), what if Sakurai originally planned for all of the Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon to evolve into their later forms, and becoming more powerful? Again, this is a crazy theory, but it's interesting to think about.
@@TheObsessiveGamer I predict Waluigi will finally get his chance, only to get blasted by Geno In the new reveal trailer showing off the newer fighters.
He REALLY shouldn't be, Geno is a no body with 1 game under his belt and he was just a side character. Square Enix literally has no reason to want him in and if he can't get in another game outside of smash or even a remaster of Mario RPG why should he ever be in smash. My number one hope for the next smash game is whenever people bring up Geno for the game they absolutely get shut down in comments. The constant begging for him for to be in SmashU made people assume he was going to get in when he had no chance.
Thanks for the vid, The Obsessive Gamer. Brawl is still my least favorite Smash Bros game for numerous reasons and I'm still grinding the axe towards it to this day, but...man, I would've loved to see the Subspace Emissary concept expanded upon and fixed of its flaws (I still had loads of fun with Smash Run on 3DS, but bleh for Smash Tour and World of Light for Wii U and Ultimate, respectively). I also would loved to see how that "Leveling" system worked.
Thanks and yeah I agree that while Brawl had its flaws, it still presented an idea as good as Subspace. I do hope Sakurai makes something of that scale again in a future installment
I definitely get why the battle damage thing was cut. If it was breakable weapons, players wouldve been furious. If it was visible injuries, how would you handle Kirby and Pikachu? It sounds like they were just testing some ideas and never really planned to include it.
Brawl is so underrated it hurts. The worst one? Get out of here with that. To me not only is it my favorite (sans the dumb tripping) it's also the last truly new Smash Bros game. Smash 4 and Ultimate feel to similar. Brawl's art style, balancing and adventure mode with Melee's speed and Ultimate's roster, stage count and graphics would make the true Ultimate Smash Bros game. Oh and Smash 64's crunchy sound effects.
It stands as one of my favourite Smash Bros myself thanks to Subspace and many new additions to the series (and the OST especially). I am fine with Ultimate's speed. To me if they take Ultimate and bring in more of the Subspace storytelling and be a bit grittier like Brawl, I think it would be the best one.
With the cut level and PP icon I gotta wonder if maybe at some VERY EARLY point in development they considered giving Pokémon Trainer a Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle instead. Maybe they were supposed to level up and evolve, and have limited PP for their moves?
Sakri y didn't you put the cut charters in smash ultimate you got cloud Sephorof and Sora from square you could have gotten genio it would been cool to see the cut charters in a game maybe the next smash game
Many people until smash4 thought that some characters were replacements because of statements like that. I remember discussions where people would say that we didn't need mewtwo back because he would be a lucario clone just because their neutral special were almost the same thing... Same with roy and ike but every choice was done to promote the new stuff at the time and they had to cut stuff to finish the game.
It's unfortunate that Krystal did not make and we instead got… another Fox semi-clone that barely resembled anything in the franchise. Yeah, I have major grievances with how the move sets in Smash games are represented. It got better with 4 and Ultimate, but still.
@@TheObsessiveGamer Captain Falcon was actually understandable. His move set was recycled from what Smash originally was I believe. That and he probably wasn't even going to make it into the game. My actual problem definitely comes with Ganondorf, lol.
Brawl modder here, so here are the detail (and correction) of Captain Falcon's Final Smash animation that I described in TCRF: That animation is actually "partially" coded to play when he finishes his Final Smash on the ground. But due to a small coding error, he will always be in aerial state - so the animation for the aerial variant always plays, and it makes the grounded variant "unused". This has been fixed in Sm4sh, which almost reuses animations for the ground/air variant and uses them properly.
Also, Ganondorf's "unused" sound effect appear to have been used as sound effect when he used Final Smash, but for some reason are considered unused sound effect. Regarding the unused animation of the Fox & Falco's blaster, I remember somewhere in the pre-release Brawl trailer there was a clip where Fox always seemed to have a blaster in his hand. It may have something to do with that... but idk, But in any case it is weird and i'm glad it was never implemented, lol
This video was very fun and informative to watch, there some stuff I never knew such as the cut trophies, event matches and stage builder elements. The Snake Trophy where he comes out the box is good! As with the others!
DID YOU KNOW, that I don't really care? I'll make it cause people want it and I want it in my way and with info and details some of these videos miss sometimes too
@@TheObsessiveGamerDID YOU KNOW that Brawl almost didnt exist? Sakurai wrote a manifesto to his future self that he would rather eat diarrehea of a rotting asshole of a roadkill skunk and down it with beer if he ever was forced to work on another Smash game again after Melee. But Iwata came into the room and slapped, punched and ground pounded some sense into him to comply.
Both of these are only theories and both have merit really. One can be thought of as a shortform of the names of Plusle and Minun, the other can be read as a way to refer to a selfmade character. Nothing however points one way or the other.
I do like the armour damage alot. Some of fighting games do have that feature already too. Weapon damage though would be fine so long as it doesn't break since it might change range lol
@@TheObsessiveGamer Yeah haveing your sword split in two in the middle of a fight would have been a pain the only other fighting game I know of that had breakable weapons was Soul Edge though they dropped that mechanic like a bad habit for its sequels.
@@fizz576 Yeah, practically even rebranded the whole series again as "Soul Caliber" as such lol The other closest being SamSho, but that's more disarmament than breakage
@@TheObsessiveGamer I don't remember which game, but I think it was possible to actually break the weapons in one of the Samurai Shodown games. It would then respawn a few seconds later.
