Nile's Dallas Toller-Wade and Karl Sanders lay down the ultimate challenge in this exclusive video. For more video, gear demos and the girls of Guitar World check out guitarworld.com
@@a.c.3070 Not really. He's pretty sloppy and most of his stuff is Slayerish random alternate picking. These were just some simple sweep arpeggio's with bad articulation.
He could have cleaned that up a lot. I play arpeggios like this a lot but I could never let myself be satisfied with something so sloppy I definitely wouldn't let anyone else hear it yet.
Many people here have never listened to Nile. Seeing the comments of the people who actually think Karl is a shitty guitar player is hilarious. If you think this is the best he can do (he's not even trying anyway). Karl is extremely talented at guitar and much better than (very probably) anyone here talking shit about him. It would be very funny seeing one of those morons trying to play a Nile song and failing epically.
exactly, most of the nile interviews which i have seen are bashed with comments full of people ridiculing karl and his guitar playing. Nile in my opinion is one of the most talented death metal bands out there.
i guess those guys care only about breakdowns, that's it. you know there usual brootal stuff. xD btw chuck i am your huge fan. didn't really know that up there they have internet connectivity. :)
It's not about whether he's a better player than us. I personally don't care It's about what he is playing. It's terrible and I wouldn't even attempt to learn something like this. It doesn't appeal to my delicate ears. It sounds like shit.
ronin2167 You just proved my first comment. I was already expecting someone like that. If you think this is even close to what he can fully do (I already said he's not even trying, because when playing in studio and live he plays MUCH better), then you have no knowledge about his guitar playing.
The solo from kafir that he breaks down is definitely clean. I think what makes it sound as though he isn't playing clear here is the THICK tone he uses. It's just so muddy that I think the notes blend together a lot. Most of the guitarists on these "betcha can't play this", are using much cleaner tones. If you know nile, you know they play with a heavy thick tone as shown here, and I think that hides Karl's precision when he's playing these sweeps
To those of you who think he sucks, look up his kafir solo lesson he did on his own channel. He is actually very good. I don't know if he's just drunk here or tired or what, but he is definitely a fantastic guitar player.
Good lord... I really want to know why guitar world would even publish this. It sounds like skwisgaar when he's making fun of shitty sweep picking ugh.
Suddenly everyone and their mother is an expert and a critic. Anyone who bases that drastic of an opinion from one 53 second clip needs to do some serious self-evaluation.
for all of the incredible music Karl Sanders has created through Nile in the past, i don't think anyone should be allowed to judge just one simple video of him playing something that people 'might/can..' play.
@goathead38 He was exhausted and heavily hungover, this was supposed to be an interview/photoshoot, and they were told to do a *Betcha can`t play this* part. My source is Karl himself.
@MrBlonday The strings wont necessarily ring, but they can make noise when you lift your fingers off of them, not everyone is an insanely smooth sweeper, especially at first
Remember the Skwisgaar Skwigelf DVD where he teaches how to play to solo to Duncan Hills? He mentions players who tell him “Oh I ams goods at sweeps arpeggio” ... well this is what he said those players sound like
Karl that's awesome! He is surely a huge fan of 80s neoclassical; Malmsteen..Jason Becker..Tony MacAlpine etc etc. You NEED all that influences to make your own music shine! Hail Nile! 😎🤘🤘🤘❤
Yo Karl I know you just played this lick an' all an' Imma let you finish, but chris broderick had one of the greatest betcha can't play this videos of all time.ALL TIME ! Jus' sayin'
watch other videos of his playing he actually a decent player, think hes just got that tone where the lower notes sound super fuzzy and that's why it sounds like this, but u might want this sound in death metal to give a messy distraught angry kinda vibe
u only really hear the high pitch notes, and they're gone within in a split sec (kinda the point, I do know) there's no sustenance to the piece, arpeggios and sweep picking are good for practice in my opinion but if your just goin to show speed its not as flashy as it could be
Man why are you guys so obsessed about saying that Nile sucks? They're actually an really good band! Betcha can play this too. I can't. Even if it's sounds terrible, just try to play it. I promise you won't. Doesn't matter what you're thinking of the performance, it wasn't the goal to play something harmonious... anyway it is Karl from Nile, it's brute rage that he's playing, not harmonious Titanic theme song...
That's cool. So it also means that you know how it's like when you are just jamming on your guitar and then you try to go back to what you played but can't remember. Also note there's a cut between the solo and the explanation... who knows how long the time lapse was.
Alot of Death metal guys seem to think that the more brutal they are the less melodic they have to be if they are guitarists. alot of these guys forget who chuck schuldiner was.
"Karl Sanders lay down the ultimate challenge in this exclusive video."...I still feel Karl Sanders is a guitar troll despite guitarworld being professional
Actually his tone is dirty. Matter of fact. But people seem to forget that this - and i mean exactly THIS - tone is a big part of the unique aggresive atmosphere Karl creates with Nile. Music is not the sum of clean techniques but the ability to create and develop sounds. "Passion" is the keyword here. Some people spend countless hours to create music, others rages at their "dirty sound" in the internet. Hmmmmmm...
I've heard of an Egyptian tonic that gives the drinker the power to choose what he or she dreams of. Or he's just buzzed up from the floor up. But then again, I'm from the part of the US where 'Passionate Politician" and "The Avereage Homeboy" are the most watched/talked about..
To everyone taking the piss out of this: sure it's pretty shit but listen to his work with Nile, or his side project (called Karl Sanders...) and try saying that he's a bad musician. You might not like it, but he is talented! I don't even play guitar and I can tell that this is sloppy, but he does look tired and the tone is pretty thick and muddy which can't help.
They sprung this on him without him even knowing it actually. He had no idea he had to do a betcha cant play this and he didn't even get time to warm up.
thats why nile is a huge touring band. yes this video karl clearly was not at the top of his game he just got back from a realy long tour and then they sprung this on him with no notice . listen to how clean his guitar playing is on their records espcially their new one. i have met him and all he does all day is sit to a metronome practicing.im assuming ur a musician other wise u wouldnt be talking shit on here and u should know that we all have our bad days of playing.
