This is a segment from the TV program "I've Got A Secret", where the contestant is Betsy Palmer's First Boss. In a world of "Phonies", this seems very genuine!

Many years ago, Betsy Palmer was in our town appearing in a production of Gigi. I was with a friend in the lobby of the hotel where she was staying. Betsy came in after the show, with members of the show's chorus. She spent a great deal of time standing and chatting with all of them. I overheard one of the actors say that his parents were on their way to meet him. He said that they would love to meet her, but as it was late in the evening, he wouldn't keep her. She stayed in the lobby with the group, and when his parents arrived, she spent a lon time talking with this man's parents. She had that beautiful smile the entire time. The sweet and caring person you see on this show was the real deal. RIP Betsy!❤😊

Growing up of course, I never realized how stunning she was. I agree with the description too. Her smile seems very genuine. I wonder how many people have even heard of shorthand today.

It would be very pleasant to see actresses that were as wholesome and down to earth as Betsy was these days. I remember her as a TV anchor on the morning news. She was a wonderful actress and person. I am glad that in Friday the 13th her son's name was Jason. She will always be missed!

When I was growing up, I saw Betsy Palmer on all manner of game shows & talk shows. So when the first Friday the 13th film came out with her starring in it, I thought the film can’t be too bad if it had Betsy Palmer in it. I think that’s what the producers were hoping for because who saw that first twist! Lol

After watching this video clip, its hard to believe that Betsy Palmer would play a serial killer about 20 years later in the original Friday the 13th movie.

Is the woman who intro'd the show Janis Paige? If this episode aired 30 March 1960, it probably is her, IMDB has her listed as a guest (as opposed to panelist) on that date. The wink at the end knocks me out!

I am surprised that Betsy did not recognize her first boss even with that mask he wore. She worked for the B&O railroad sometime between her 1944 high school graduation and her 1951 start in television. This episode aired in 1960 so only 10 to 15 years had passed.

They should have known that there would be a good chance that Betsy would figure out who he was, so they should have put a bag over the guy's head rather than just using a mask over the eyes.

Garry should've given him the entire $80, because on these shows a panelist always disqualified themselves if they knew who the contestant was.

@@watchman1178 Agreed, Watchman. Anyway, the money they pay the contestants was peanuts. Can you imagine someone today winning a small sum of money. Yuk. [But maybe they go home with a bottle of Bufferin."]
@watchman1178
@watchman1178 2 года назад
@@ralphturner3798 Yeah, the prize money on both "I've Got A Secret" and "What's My Line?" was abysmal. Only on the Goodson/Toddman show "To Tell the Truth" could contestants potentially win even a fairly decent amount. 4 incorrect answers (which didn't happen very often) would allow the 3 contestants to equally split $1,000 dollars. Still not much money, though.

That was a good synopsis, np and, I appreciate you sharing. This post eclipses my previous number one: "Henry Morgan has owed me $2.00..." I, too, think Miss Palmer was Beautiful, Intelligent, Articulate & Sophisticated, indeed!(what, 'bias?'-lol!) I, now, pose a question: was not Mr. X's mask about, as useful, as the ones worn, by Bruce and, Dick, in the "Batman" series?(oh and, their voices didn't change, either. "Holy, Clueless, Gotham City!")...now, pulling tongue, from cheek. ;) This format, too, isn't right, for such an instance: I feel the continuation, of questioning, should have ceased, when Miss Palmer recognised the contestant. $0.02. While, I think, of it-guess, which "situations", were my favourite, on "Truth, Or Consequences?" Oh and, did we notice, who applauded, when Mr. Moore had introduced the panel? Miss Palmer, obviously, was delighted, to be a member, of same. Great, also, at, "Password", as I recall. R.I.P., wonderful woman.

Gary Moore must have been a very heavy smoker not to be able to refrain from smoking for the thirty minutes that the show lasted. What a poor example he was to the viewers. What would people think if a religious minister was smoking throughout his church service, or if all members of Congress smoked throughout their congressional sessions.
@np1070
@np1070 3 года назад
That was definitely a different time. One of the major tobacco companies sponsored the show, so I am quite sure he was encouraged, or even required, that he smoked constantly during the show. I recall seeing on one episode, the contestant had a young boy with him, maybe 7 or 8, and he jumped up, pointed at Gary and shouted "You're going to Hell for smoking!" Everything was live back then, so by the time it happened, it was too late to stop it before it aired. Of course there was total chaos on the set, and Gary said something to the effect of "there will be a lot to talk about back in Richmond over this". Right afterwards Henry Morgan lit up and said they are normally not allowed to smoke during the show, but he did anyway to make a point. Like I said, it was certainly a different time.
