The key to crystal clear water is keeping the organics OUT! These little units are worth their weight in gold, especially after the lawn is mowed. I would be scooping for 30 minuets and it still wouldn't be as clean.

so cant the dolphin do both jobs like cleaning floor and cleaning surface debris as well? why do we need two devices?

...depending on the pool robotic cleaner, they clean floors only, floors and walls, or floors, walls, and waterline. The robotic pool skimmer, only skims the water surface. If your in-built pool's skimmer is adequate, the robotic pool skimmer really isn't necessary...just a nice to have. However, in my opinion, it has VASTLY decreases the need to manually skim the pool and the main/in-built skimmer almost never gets as full as it used to with normal maintenance. And now, if you truly don't want 2 devices there is a new robot I've seen that looks promising. It does it all...floors, walls, waterline, AND surface; even water clarifying apparently. It is by Beatbot called the AquaSense Pro; it's a bit pricey though and from early reviews it does OK and not as good as a dedicated devices...kind of a jack of all trades but master of none. ...it is pricey, but definitely notice the difference in amount of hours NOT having to manually skim...I even turned the skimmer off for my pool for several months for full power to the main drains...
