I love this!!! and often when I performed in New York City that's who they said i reminded them of Bette!! ... But let's face it Barry Manilow produced her first four albums his musical arranging and production put her on the map along with her phenomenal songstress voice and essence.. truly one for the history legend books!!! Barry is a musical genius... and God bless whoever put them together on this moment... you can tell Bette couldn't believe it!!! I hope they have made up since then.
Can’t believe they got all of those original back ground singers (many who’ve gone on to their own stardom ) Melissa Manchester; Charlotte Crowley, Jennifer Lewis, etc. plus Bette & Barry !!! 🙌🏾💥👏🏾🥰
Bette did an interview with Letterman in 2003 where she discussed how pissed off she was about Rosanne surprising her with all these people from her past. She said that Barry didn't speak to her for years afterwards. He called her to reunite for the Rosemary Clooney tribute album.
You could have knocked me over with a feather a couple of months ago, when I was watching an episode of Dick Cavett and his guest was Bette Davis. She decided to sing and the camera panned over to her piano player and it was Barry Manilow! He was so young and thinner than usual. When Bette was done singing, she introduced Barry and she spent quite a bit of time engaging in conversation with him instead of Dick. She even put Barry on the spot by asking him if he liked her singing. The look on his face was hilarious. It can be found here on RU-vid. Just search Dick Cavett with guest Bette Davis. She even commented on Bette Midler being named after her. Pretty cool find to stumble on.
You're the best! Great performance as always....And.... congrats on the Kennedy Center Honors Award! You look Marvelous! Thanks for all the music you bring to life (and movies)
@Bette midler I have.......if you count your DVD "Divine Madness" which I have. I also still have many of your CD's. Additionally, I tapped and have a VHS recording of your performance on Johnny Carson's last show. Please let me know of any future performances in the NY area. I'd love to be there. Thanks for all
He was not just her musical director, he arranged all her early songs - like Friends & Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy plus produced her first two albums! She owes her career to him!
@deannebenkert6700 You could say that about almost any artist. They surround themselves with people who help them reach their goals, but that doesn’t mean he is solely responsible for her success. She owes her career to herself, her talent, her personality, and her voice. Barry Manilow was not a big star back then, and who’s to say she wouldn’t have found someone else if it hadn’t been for him? He’s great, but so is she.
What nobody had seen cause they cut it out ..was the shock pissed her off and it took Manilow to pull her aside and together and remind her that all for them had to fly in from differnt parts of the states ...She was pissed
He thought she was outrageous and I think he was a little embarrassed by her act back in the day... lol. Who knew from their gigs together they would both become superstars!!!
Can Trump stop talking. Well I know God spoke the first word and He will have the last. Not your god, Trump. Stop praising him and giving him. Your not a real Christian. You give to a 🐖. God said feed the poor, clothes the naked. Not give money to your idol.
