Bette Midler was like Judy Garland. They were actors who could really sing. When they sang, they owned the song and put it out there and wore it on their sleeve. They projected that song out to the listener in such a powerful way. Few could do that, and now, probably no one can. That magic is lost. Where is that kind of talent now?!
Nobody could sing this like Bette,It digs into your soul no matter you are man woman or child. The movie based on the life of Janice Joplin was as powerful as the song. She is a very unique talent that we don't talk enough about. Thanks for the reaction
I happy someone mentioned that. A tragic but great story/ movie and Bette killed it. She’s right up there with the best imo. Love me some Bette Midler. 💐
the best eppic movie of all time #TheRose based on the life and spirit of Janis Joplin.....a must see if yoy never have.....#BetteMidler best and epic proformance...still today the best ever done since 1979
I will always remember my dance to this song. I had to choreagraph a dance and perform it in front of the class. The instructor had very specific instructions for this final dance. AND IT WAS MY MASTER PIECE!
This is a song of hope, persistence and resilience! Even when all seems lost, there is still a chance one can make it out of the darkness and agony! You are stronger than you realize!
the Rose movie was secretly about the life of blues singer Janis Joplin, who died from drugs/alcohol in 1970. one of trio of musicians that died too young, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. Poor Janis, she never felt loved IMO.
So Happy you decided to take a listen, and you listened to the studio version which is my favorite, besides my favorite tune by Bette! The movie The Rose is excellent, you should watch it. Thanks for the upload!
I'm a 6'2" carpenter...been cut and slashed..married with two daughters and a princess wife... this song always gets me.. "just something in my eyes babes, just sawdust.."
Check her out lifting New Yorkers after 9/11 as she sings The Wind Beneath My Wings. It’s killer. She’s singing to the families of the first responders.
I love this song. I am 55 yrs old and let me tell you that your reactions are so heartfelt and genuine and I am moved to tears watching your reactions. You are a lovely young lady who has a deep heart and an old soul. I love that you are deeply touched by these brilliant songs from previous eras and you recognize the artistry and talent of those that created them.
BARBARA STREISAND: "Evergreen" (Love Theme From, "A Star Is Born") DIANA ROSS: "Touch Me In The Morning" OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN: "I Love You, I Honestly Love You" JUICE NEWTON: "Angel In The Morning" CRYSTAL GAYLE: "Talking In Your Sleep" LINDA RONSTADT: "Long, Long Time" LINDA RONSTADT & DOLLY PARTON: "I Never Will Marry"
The Queen of all things. Her shows with music and comedy were the best! Her movies wonderful. She got an Oscar nom for performance in the film, “ The Rose”.
The song was written in Amanda McBroom in 1977. It was not written for the movie. It played during the closing credits of the movie. Bette won Best Pop Female Vocal Performance in 1980, for the Rose.
"When the night has been too lonely And the road has been too long And you think that love is only For the lucky and the strong" Yeah...that's harsh tokes. How can one not get weepy over that?
After such a soft, tender beginning, that choir-like sound at 3:06 really hits hard! And the song ends softly once again, just as it started. Frickin' gorgeous.
Happy early birthday Angela; I'm exactly 1 week before you on the 14th! I'll be a 58 year old lady and that blows my mind. I feel like a forever 37 year old, LOL! I love this song too! -Joni
I've said that she has the ability to draw every ounce of emotion out every single note out of her mouth. That's a very rare ability, but she does it again and again!
Heard the composer say her agent said she had to write more rock/pop type songs, songs went home put on bob Seeger records and then wrote the rose. I am very happy she did
Thank you for reacting to this. I've always loved it and it hits me the same way every time. When the movie came out, I was in high school, but I heard it was loosely based on Janis Joplin's life, and I wasn't a big fan of her music at the time (though I've grown to appreciate it since), so I didn't see the movie. But I was very shy (well, I still am) and I kept trying to push myself into uncomfortable situations to try to get over it, so I went to a Junior Achievement convention and they had a talent show at it, and one girl sang this song and it blew me away. Even without Bette's vocals (though the girl did a great job singing it). So I searched out the song and bought the soundtrack. I always played it to keep hope alive that I might eventually find that seed of love hiding beneath the snow despite my painful shyness. Now that I'm old and that really never happened, the song still makes me cry, but for different reasons. I can really relate to the line about never learning to live and the one about love being for the lucky and the strong. Fight your fears with everything you've got before it's too late. Because you get old before you know it. I did try fighting them when I was young, but each failure and disappointment was harder to bounce back from.
The Rose Was Really About Janis Joplin I Remember Seeing This When I Was 12 In 1979 And That's When I Fell In Love With Better Milder And Janis Joplin And I've Loved Them Both Ever Since ❤️
Honestly, I was not a fan of this song at first. But, as I got older....it grew on me. Then, I hadn't heard it for a while and one day it randomly came on in my car....and it HIT ME!!! Damn, right in the feels!! Excellent song indeed. I'm sure many others will say to react to "Wind Beneath My Wings"....so I will ask you to take a look at "From A Distance". Her voice sounds amazing and the song itself is such a great message :)
This is not the first time I've heard this song- nearly 70, this song lets me know that my heart is alive and well. It is refreshing to see your reactions. Not just to this one but the one of James Taylor "You got a Friend". Your Mama did good with you. She has pass on the magic of Love and not being afraid to display your own heart and soul. There are some songs that all you have to do is just feel and listen. Not to concern yourself with your soul for approval---just feel the song with your heart and you do that so well. You make your Mama proud, and I hope, your Papa too! This song sings of the fears-the hopes-the disappointments and the Love in each one of our own lives.
Love your being open and vulnerable to your audience. Another song you might give a listen to DO YOU WANNA DANCE. Bette shows her true depth and dynamic range in the waves of this song.
Bette is so underrated and the movie should be on the top BUT if you break down the song...I can understand it. I had a crush on a girl in high school but couldnt tell her. Cause my heart was afraid of breaking who never learns to dance (still cant) but the point to me is to go for it. My crush passed away in 1985 and always loved her and named my daughter after her. I love you Krista
Great choice. My favorite of hers...She did a cover of the original "Wind Beneath My Wings, that was sung and written by Garry Morris... Please react to his version. Thank you.😀
Thank God that 70s bit is over…lol..just kidding. I love 70s, after all punk and glam came from that decade. Love ladies night and hope you tackle the 60s soon…greatest decade of them all..beautiful reaction as usual and great song
I love Bette Midler! She is a wonderful singer and actress! I feel she is underrated as both! The movie is fantastic and you’re right, loosely based on Janis Joplin! It’s an amazing performance!❤❤
